The Story of Uncle Malcolm
by katiekitten inthis is a great story and its totally true.. peter kay says that when you are a kid you have loads of aunties and uncles, your uncle bob because he once borrowed your dads orbital sander and your aunty mary because your mum goes to weight watchers with her.
i thought it was a witnoid thing, or maybe a north of england thing, or even a 70's thing.. uncle malcolm was (is) an elder in my childhood congregation, a little wiry bloke in a flat cap and painters overalls.
lived in a council house opposite my nana's with the ample aunty jean, two large shiftless sons and lots of budgies.

District Assembly eating rules....
by JH induring our district assembly which will be held at a coliseum, we were told not to go outside during the intermission, and not eat in restaurants near by.
we were told to bring our own food and eat inside the coliseum.
usually, the coliseum offers hot dogs and hamburgers and drinks, but the brothers refused this service.. .

I can see where bringing your own lunch is faster/less espensive/somewhat easier than going out to eat, but why does everypeckin'thing have to be regulated?
It annoys me no end that I was so locked into this stupidity.
I remember their guidelines on only staying at WT approved hotels too. One older couple at the hall was very distressed that they were being counseled not to stay at this little family-run motel that they'd gone to for decades. They'd become friends with the owners over the years and would really look forward to their yearly visits. They got quite a bit pressure from Elder Pompous Dumbass about it, but they held their ground. I know some of their pleasure in the DA was spoiled though.

Honesty/Vs/tolerance--X-JW dilemna
by cyber-sista inthis has been a struggle i have had since leaving the wt some 2 years ago.
i have been pretty low key thus far about the reasons i have left and haven't really gone out of my way to speak to any jws about it.
i have a nephew that is dfd and my daughter has a friend who is dfd and i have had a few brief discussions with them about the subject of my leaving.

That's disgusting, skyman. I guess Jehovah will forgive them their fornicating ways as long as they shun people properly. Frankly, I wouldn't want to keep the friendship of people who were so morally bankrupt.
cyber-sis, it's a balancing act for sure. It's very hard to reason with unreasonable people. I've been thinking about this too, about how I will talk to those I run into...if they are still talking to me. I've decided that I have a right to my opinion, and I will try hard to present that opinion based on facts and not emotionalism. I will try to be friendly and polite to those JW's I speak to, but I'll be damned if I'm going to sugar coat what I now know to be true. They have my pity because they are the ones still living a lie, enslaved to an organization who's "fruits" have proved to be rotten and deformed. If they want to think that's "over the top"...so be it.

HOW TO PROPERLY WASH A WINDOW (SERIOUS THREAD)
by Outaservice inwith spring/summer cleaning upon us, and many of you ex-jw's carrying on in your former business of cleaning, i offer the proper way to clean glass.. you will need only 4 items.
paper towel, window cleaner (windex etc.
), single edge razor blade, and 4 zero steel wool.. apply window cleaner, and wash with 4 zero steel wool which will not scratch the glass as it is very fine, but will cut any scum.

It will be interesting to see, won't it? They've been able to keep the ball rolling for over a hundred years, but that's without the internet where people from all over can get together, compare notes, do research.
I suppose as their increases die off in countries with populations that own and use PC's, they will focus attention on those places where internet access is not so readily available....where the "humble and meek" people may still be found. I'm afraid they will be around for a good long while yet.

Theocratic coloring book for children
by unbeliever inhttp://members.tripod.com/~charb46/
would you want your children coloring some of these pictures?
if you want to see a larger version go to the website above and click on the pictures.

Hey, Richie, I think you should print out a stack of these to take to the DA. You could color in between setting off stink bombs and depositing bogus checks in the contribution boxes. LOL

A controlled zombie for 32 years
by JohnHag inthats right a controlled zombie-how could i have so stupid?
how could i give up my father & mother-how could i give up all my friends?when i look in the mirror i see an old man that is no longer young--and they still are not out of my life--they still come by and leave magazines---i dont want to be mean--but they just dont get it--after reading about the 2 books by ray franz and reading diane wilson:s book---there probably is a few more bomb shell books that will come out--maybe we havent heard anything yet--who knows whats around the corner lol..you might be in for a shock-i heard that in the hall i used to go to no longer announces the attendance--could it be a trend that will go throughout the world?
i have even heard of kingdom halls beeing sold-also in their new book- they wont be having all these investigations of the flock--they will just announce from the plat form that john doe is no longer a jehovah witness---that is better--it saves a lot of stress and nonsense--maybe the jerks are doing something that makes sense for a change--that will break my heart to say i am no longer a jehovah witness----thanks hag

JohnHag, I've been asking myself those very questions. It's painful for me to look back on all the years I wasted on this cult...as well as the less than optimum childhood it engendered for my sons. The regret I have is intense.
I have been trying to remember some of the good times in addition to all the rotten stuff, though. There was a reason we stuck around all those years, some need that we got at least partially fulfilled. It helps when I get too down on myself to know that what they teach is very seductive and, unless you are familiar with cult tactics and brainwashing techniques, its hard to realize what is happening.
I would imagine that there are more skeletons that will be revealed as time goes on. It was most interesting to me how the PO's son in my first congregation came back after two years at Bethel, left the JW's and moved far away from home. Rather than being an "upbuilding" experience for him, service at Bethel catapulted him straight out of the org.
What stunned me when I finally started looking at "apostate" stuff online was that there were disgusting things going on from the very beginning of this organization. I like to think that if I'd done some research on Russell and Rutherford, I would never have been sucked in.

Internet Dating......has anybody tried it?
by JV inwell seeing as my social skills are severly limited or it's just really really hard to meet women i thought i'd get everybody's opinion on "netdating".
i think it's worth a shot, i think it gives you an opportunity to meet people that you'd never meet in the real world, well it's 2 am and i'm bored, i guess i'd better hit the sack now

Very cool, EF!
I've never done it, but friends of mine have. I'm not sure if they weren't being discriminating enough or if maybe they should have had more online or phone conversations before planning to meet some of these guys in person, but neither of the two girls (early 30's, attractive) have had a lot of success meeting someone they wanted to continue seeing for more than a few dates....or the guys didn't want to continue seeing them. Could be they needed to tweek their profiles or something???
Good luck with it!

Should we be focusing on such frivolous things when the end is so very, very close, friends? On the other hand, if you purchase a lot of cool stuff like this on your credit card, it's possible that you may never have to pay for it.
