Do you "now" look for more reasons to dislike or hate the JW's?
by free2beme ini have noticed from reading over this site and from having contact with former witnesses in my personal life, that a lot of time is consumed in the beginning of your exit from the witnesses, with finding further reasons to hate or dislike the jehovah's witnesses.
with this i was wondering, is this done to give yourself more reason not to return or is it an expression of your freedom to find out what you want without borders.
from a pure psychological stand-point, i am prone to wonder if it is a means of feeding an inner anger to bring one a faults sense of security, when they are challenged from within to decide if what they are really dealing with is correct thinking or a path that is truly wrong.

I'm sure others here could answer this better than I can. All I can say is that for me there is a good amount of sadness and even shame that I feel now for having been so gullible (I became a JW as an adult) and wasting a good portion of my life and my kids' lives on a sham. Going through these topics is a way to work through some of the stubborn bits of programming still lingering, as well as a way of figuring out WHY I was suseptible to this crap in the first place.
The funny threads (which often ridicule doctrine, the GB, "ones taking the lead" and even ordinary JW's) are a welcome bit of levity as I pick up the pieces of my life and try to figure out where I'm going from here. It may seem to be meaness for meaness' sake, but I think it serves a purpose...even if it's just to make us smile.

I think I would have stopped going out in service a lot sooner if I'd ever been with someone who'd done that (foot in the door).
I know that if I'd ever opened the door to someone who had the audacity to muscle their way into my house, I would have called the police. No one has the right to enter my home without my permission, I don't care how many invisible angels you think you have in your color guard.

I was always kind of a slouch about asking for autographs but I do have one: Hugh Jackman.
There might be others that people have gotten for me, but I can't remember what (or where) they are right now.

Were you an elitist?
by DevonMcBride inhow many of you felt superior as jw's because you had an elite level of knowledge that only the society could give you?

*raises hand and flushes from acute embarassment*
Yup, I felt pretty dang special. *I* had somehow had some magic quality that enabled me to recognize God's really true, tested and approved organization while others stumbled through their lives in darkness. Go me!
What a dope I was.

Comments You Will Not Hear at the 6-19-05 WT Study (Resurrection 3)
by blondie inthing.
other again on earth one day.

I guess once they get past this bad patch of having to convince the R & F that resurrection and not living through the great trib and Armageddon should be the real hope, they (the GB and friends) will be able to breathe easier. Gotta be tough when one of the support beams of your religion has just about rotted through.
Great job as usual, blondie!

Naughty children
by Ellie in.
i heared something the other day that made me sick.. apparentely its been brought out in a talk recently that children are becoming more and more imperfect due to us being right at the end of the system.. i was told that the witnesses are saying that this generation of kids being born have a natural bad streak that makes them so willfull and disobedient.. i don't know what they are saying should be done about it but i imagine they are probably encouraging harsher discipline.. the mind boggles!

Good point, trevor! The GB and Bethelites with important positions within the org are pretty removed from reality up there in their ivory tower. Many don't have children at all so how is it that they are giving advice on parenting?
Kids need dicipline, sure, but making small children sit still for hours at a time is cruel. We were even admonished not to let them color or draw. I mean, come on, I could hardly sit through some of those interminable meetings....let along the assembly days and conventions.
The Society doesn't have a clue...it doesn't care about the mental health and wellbeing of any of the poor saps who are stuck in it's clutches. The main goal is to keep everybody under control and to keep as many of their children in service to the borg as they possibly can...and if that takes beatings and guilt tripping and destroying their mental health...so be it.

UFOs - secret military projects from planet EARTH?!?!
by zagor injust finished watching this discovery program, that makes convincing case that ufo are nothing but very advanced military projects that have been going on for years.
in fact, it all started in nazi germany, and the company that was commissioned to produce them was none other than skoda , car company from czechoslovakia.
interesting indeed.

I've seen programs something like that before, zagor. I think it's very credible.
I won't rule out the possiblity of real UFO's (because I like the idea of extraterrestrials...Ooo, perhaps I'm a candidate for Scientology?...Nah, can't afford it. LOL), but I'll accept that a large number of sightings are experimental military aircraft and satellites.

Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes Get Engaged

I haven't paid a whole lot of attention to this. About all I know about Tom Cruise is that he's a pretty good actor (tho I don't care for him much), he's a Scientologist (which looks just as wacky as JW stuff, but possibly even more dangerous if you try to criticize them), and he seems to burn through a lot of relationships. He did look pretty whacky on Oprah from the clips I've seen, and he seems pretty over excited about Katie Holmes.
I feel like Miss Katie is getting in over her head, but what do I know? I fear she's being sucked into Scientology with little knowledge of what she's really getting into because of Cruise and because that "religion" is the in-thing in Hollywood these days and that's too bad. I don't like to see anybody swallowed up by a cult.
She's so young. If I knew her, I'd want to tell her to give it some time, to enjoy her life and her freedom for a while. But who can stop anybody when their heart is set on a course of action? Nobody could have stopped me from getting married back when I was her age. I was invincible. I thought I knew everything.
Then, after nine years of an unhappy marriage, I went and joined a cult. I still thought I knew everything. Some people have to learn the hard way.
