To what extent do JW believe in Ghosts/demons/wicked spirits

i'm pretty confused by the fact that my mom says jw do not believe in ghosts, yet a sister commented about seeing things flying inside a householder whom performed witchcraft.

to me it was sort of hinting to ghosts or demons are visible to the eye or maybe it was bats?

also i remember one time in bible study, someone was saying how wicked spirits were bothering a family, and so they had to burn all their books on harry potter, and other ghost stories and after that the spirits stopped.

Funny thing is they seem to believe so much in 'demons', yet they don't believe in guardian angels or any sort of 'good spirits'. Whatever they may be called. Only the negative.

Oprah going after child molesters

on good morning america this morning, oprah was on and she is having a few shows in which callers can give tips to the where abouts of child molesters.

i don't watch her show myself but many do, obviously.

i know she feels very strongly about the issue and even went to congress to get the laws changed.

I was wondering if any of you would be willing to write her show about the jw molestation problem? I will, but all I can do is give her information. Some of you, if willing, could give the kind of story that tugs on the heartstrings of people. Your stories could make an impact to have her bring this to the American public. I think Silentlambs would know of people who would be willing to go public if some of you cannot. I would be difficult to do. But, your individual stories may be enough for her & staff to at least look into the problem.

Did I read the chart of from another thread correctly about the population of jw's in the US? I must have this wrong. Only about 30thousand some jw's in US? I have also read an estimated 23,000 names on file in Brooklyn as child molesters. ?

you have dodged them all for the most part and spent your replies on personal attacks, or just plain refusal to address the questions posed.

your favorite retort is typically ad hominen attacks or a red-herring thown in for good measure.

Are artist's faces copyrighted?

this might seem like a strange question...but if anyone's familiar with the concept of copyrights.... i am thinking of making an illustrated book including quotes from various inspirational music and movie artists complete with artistic portraits of the artists (that are not copied from photographs...) and i was wondering if i could get sued over something like that...

You cannot use artist/atheletes faces or likenesses without their permission. Even some of the old film stars are licensed 'products'. I guess you would have to decide how deep are your pockets compared to the artist/athelete or those who hold the license? Litigation can be quite costly. They may just send you a cease & desist to stop selling the product or go after you to make an example of you. Even if they send a cease & desist you have already put much time and money into your product. There have been a number of cases where the rich & famous have gone after the 'little guy'. I know of one case where they even went after the printer (as well as the artist) the printer lost his business. The printer could not claim ignorance in printing licensed product. As for copyrighted material there are some good sites that show the international law as well as US. These are two different issues- using someones likeness and copyright. You can however produce 'originals' but not reproduce for sale. Meaning you could technically produce say, 3 original paintings of Marylin Monroe but not make prints to sell, you could however produce say, a large print of an original just to use as a sales tool but not to sell. When this is done however, someone invariably wants to buy it and puts you at risk. Then someone else comes along and says, 'where'd that big piece go? I'd like one'. That's when the trouble starts because most artists want to keep clients happy and need the money as well.

Is it possible that many of their sexual policies began when (in the late 70's early 80's?) some of the people at Bethel and even some of the gb were found out to be visiting gay bars? And engaging in homosexual acts? That some of the gb were so repulsed by such activity that they then put policies in place which included private issues between married couples? Did some of these men just have their own sexual problems they put that onto all the members of the society as what should be 'normal' between married couples?

Any Scout Parents here ?

i am a new cub scout (wolf - 2nd grade) den leader.... they say its just an hour a week..right !.

my son is 7 and in the 2nd grade.

now i was raised in the jw's and was never a scout so i am totally clueless.

I was a girlscout leader. Do you have the leaders handbook? Isn't there another man there who was a leader previously? Otherwise let the boys vote on which badges they want to do and how they will be accomplished. Some troops do alot of camping. There is probably a camp nearby that also has one day events or things individual troops can do for a day. There the camp itself will somewhat 'take over' for you, you will just be along for the ride so to speak. In girlscouts we usually had the girls pick at least one community/service type of project to do for the year. Taught them to give back to the community. Our meeting consisted of some type of project/craft, snack, game(s) and girls then have a friendship circle at the end. I don't know what the boys do. The begining always starts with the pledge of allegiance. Don't forget to do summer camp! The boys camp is so much better than the girls!!! Get parents to volunteer and sign up for some of the days. We also had one parent volunteer at every meeting. With a small troop that meant the parent only had to come once or twice throughout the year. Parents did enjoy themselves, once they got there. Good luck! go to one of the leader meetings and get a man's point of view. carla
