Sorry I can't tell you about Jewish sites. Everybody has a slant/ bias. Even atheists and agnostics. That's why I would say read everybody. carla

That's not true that it won't do any good. I think it was Ron Rhodes & his wife who saw picketers at a convention or hall. The picketers had signs saying they should read the Bible instead of the WT. They had to admit the picketers had a point. Eventually they left and you can find many of his anti cult books all over the place. Who knows you may reach at least one person that in turn could impact many lives. You will never know. carla

Don't forget to check with some Jewish sources, two different at least. Liberal and conservative. Any Synogogues by you? I think they are very helpful from what I have heard. carla

I'm not jw but found this board almost overwhelming. Might try Tishie/Randy's board (network 54)? Not as many people to keep track of and not as informational (i.e. like Blondies great info), I guess more personal. I think when I asked long time ago about this board someone compared it to- this board like a very busy coffee house and the Tishie board as a smaller more intimate place. Good luck to your friend, carla

Third World WTS
by gringojj inthe wts is growing rapidly in poor countries this we know.
but my question is how are things conducted in these areas?
the wts could be baptising people left and right just to show the number of jws worldwide is increasing.

I have a question for you - I know someone going to Malawi this summer. I don't know her very well and she is not aware of the jw problem in our household. She is going as a Christian missionary and to work with aids children. Considering the wt history in Malawi should I say anything to her? It was a long time ago, maybe modern day Malawians don't even remember. What do you think? thanks, carla

Topics for ApostaTract
by TheListener inthis has been discussed on several threads but i need concrete ideas.
i want to start putting together a generic tract to give to ones i've know who are df'd, faded, da'd or weak.
i want the tract to be loving, gentle and kind but honest.. my ideas so far (all of these or others' ideas can't fit into one simple tract, but can be the basis for a series of tracts that can be on topics that we know may interest a particular dub).. -dogmatism vs. reasonableness .

All great ideas for long time members, however the new converts have no concept of what any of it means. My other half, has only been studying for two years, he has no idea what the change in 'generation' actually meant to long time jw's, cannot understand the big deal about the UN, and forget 1914 he doesn't have a clue about that either. In the past two years I have studied the wt doctrine, flip flops etc..... and can see just how some of this info could be devastating to some jw's. Even 1975, he just buys into the "blame the rank & file overzelousness' routine. There are some good tracts out there on some of the Christian sites, I know many here would like to stay away from that, but, they may have some good points especially on the flip flops. Just a thought, carla

I would say thank you to all of you for all your advice and research. I will not be posting for quite some time as my husband and I are renewing our vows and will be busy making up for lost time. It may take quite some time. Wish you all well. Will stop back for a visit sometime. Thanks again! love, carla (someday I hope to really post that, if I don't give up before then, or go nuts with this nonsense)

Can someon explain the 70 years prophecy to me?
by ithinkisee ini am reading gentile times reconsidered.
great book.
but when you read it you definitely have to have a clear understanding of the 70 years prophecy as interpreted by the society - otherwise the explanations sound just as garbled as the society's (except reconsidered has a lot more actual references).. can someone explain it in simple terms?

I read this book long before I knew much about the jw's. It made no sense to me, so now I am rereading it. I think you certainly have to know jw doctrine to get the full understanding from this book. Some of it is still a struggle. Others here more knowledgable will give you more correct answers than I can. carla

JWs and breastfeeding past infancy
by rebel8 inmy jw mother breastfed my sibs so long they remember it.
one she stopped feeding when she went to kingergarten; i kid you not.
my mother justified it by saying moses' mother breastfed him until whatever age and the bible encourages it.

In the US it is customary to nurse up till about one year old. In third world countries it can go much longer, but then they may not have access to tippy cups & bottles. My oldest is 18 and people started giving me a hard time for nursing her still at 6 months! I always regret giving up early due to pressure. People thought I was getting 'my' thrills by nursing! weirdos. But, women my mother's age did not nurse, so they kind of thought it was a little strange. Then when my 12 yr old was born I nursed for a year. By that time nobody thought a thing of it. Husband liked the fact that I nursed, he never had to get up! By the end of the first year they are definitely ready to stop. just my experience. carla
