put your brand new car in your parents garage, so that it will stay clean, but when you come back and look at the car in the morning, there's bird sh*t on it.

yeah, a stupid bird was trapped in the garage all night, and the damn thing sh*t on my brand new car..

What would the hall think?

recently we had gone for a long walk (family) with the end goal being a catholic church to buy some goodies.

keep in mind this was the end goal of a very long walk.

walk was beautiful, food was yummy, a good time was had by all.

Walk was beautiful, food was yummy, a good time was had by all. Next day my jw decides to run up there in his car to get more! We were out of state and he could have just eaten something else at home or even packed a lunch. Yet he made the choice to support the catholic church for the good eating! I didn't say a word but isn't that a no-no to support a church? There really isn't anything else around where we were. thanks, carla

Who can and can't a JW sit next to at the hall?

there are so many unwritten laws, but most witnesses know when it's wrong to sit next to someone.. name a few cases, when it's ok to sit next to someone, and when it's not ok?

How I am dealing with "The Bible says you have to go to all the meetings!!"

here is the basic approach i am going to use.

my wife is a newly dunked dub, and my kids have been hearing the propaganda for about 3 years now.

i figured out it was a cult about 6 months ago.

I think that to rely on such human constructs is actually a lack of faith. It shows that a person does not believe or trust in the Holy Spirit to perfect us. Instead we want to rely on outside social pressures to keep us in line.

I have tried that argument as well. He just says if he were to (for instance) go to some other church with me, "it would hurt his god jehovah". How? no answer, it just would. change the subject. But, if I say, I could go into anyplace be it a synogogue, Bhuddist Temple, or whatever it wouldn't affect my sprirituality with God at all. It would be fascinating from a cultural point of view, but wouldn't change my relationship with God or my thinking on the Bible, then why won't I go with him to the hell? damned if you do, damned if you don't. Appeal to his sense of fairness (if there was any) you go to something of my choice, I'll go to something of yours. No deal.

I have said that the wt does not allow the Holy Spirit to do His job, in essence the wt has 'fired' the Holy Spirit. They assume everybody must be the same and all must have the gift of being able to go door to door. Well some just can't. What about the painfully shy? What about other gifts? Charitable works? They keep people immature to keep them in control. No need to research, your brothers have done that for you. Would they tell their children the same thing when it comes to school work? My kids in even the lower grades were required to some pretty extreme research including writing to scientist, footnoting all quotes and including extensive bibliographies. Should we expect less from someone claiming they have the 'truth' about God and one's eternity?

Funny, I have tried to use the Bereans and like on my jw! trying to get him to see the script in context and question. Besides, the early church was not some harmonious place. They were filled with lively debate and even arguments. On top of that, when Paul admonished the Corinthians they never say anything was resolved. That is just an assumtion on the part of jw's. round and round, carla

US & lack of historical perspective for JWs?

hopefully i can explain what i'm talking about here.. a few yrs after i left the jws, i went to college and spent a semester abroad.

the combo of studying world history, along with seeing historical stuff in person and exposure to new cultures really led me to realize even deeper how egocentric/ethnocentric the jw belief system is.

by that, i mean: everything centers around white americans.
