How are they handling the memorial this year? zoom or open kh's? how do they reject the wine & bread in their own home? do they get a bottle and some nice crusty bread and put aside until the next day or later?

The JW cult creates pessimistic personalities in all the PIMI congregants is my opinion
by goingthruthemotions ini am not saying all jw congregants are pessimistic, but i would go as far to say all pimi jw congregants are pessimistic.. why do i say this, my wife is my measuring stick.
she has barely an optimistic bone in her being.
she will only focus on the bad parts of anything.

goingthru, I actually had almost that exact conversation with my jw! how he hoped all of us (his wife, children, parents, etc..) will die in the big A. He couldn't wrap his head around it and denied that is what they teach blah, blah. I showed him quotes from various wt's that pretty much said as much but then like a good jw he just changed the subject.

I would agree, my jw's glass is usually half empty as well. Then I pull out the 'think on the bright side', "if you only look for the bad that is all you will see", "that's funny I see the silver lining in....." or find some feel good story of people helping people to counteract his pessimism. That might sound annoying as hell but it actually does seem to help, most of the time. Also helps to limit news time as much as you can. Nobody needs to see the news 24/7 if they want to stay sane.
I can blame it mostly on the jw's as pre jw days (before he joined the cult) he was much more of an optimist and found joy more often in little things. The jw's fill their congregations with gloom and doom on a daily basis, no wonder they are such an anxious lot.

“Do not gaze about!”
by slimboyfat inso many changes in the 2013 nwt seem needless and spoil familiar phrases.
take isaiah 41:10 in the nwt classic rendering:.
do not be afraid, for i am with you.

"Do not gaze about"- What? sounds very strange to me though I am not a fan of any jw/NWT versions.
NIV- So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.NKJV-Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ -

Google threatening to pull search engine from Australia
by joey jojo ingovernment is saying google should pay fees to news media for aggregating news.
google says they will geo-block australia from search if forced to.
raises some interesting questions about how dependant we have all become and how entangled google is in our lives.

I have had it but had difficulties opening certain documents attached in emails. Was it something I was doing wrong do you suppose or a glitch in the browser?

Havent gone to the kingdom hall in ten years but may have to go back...
by Joliette inmade a big mistake of talking about being raised as a jehovah's witness to some old friends and family.
people have told me that i am still a jws even though i've never been baptized.
i'm in school for social services, dealing with student loan debt, and a lot of other debt.

Jan, I couldn't agree more! "When l try to talk to others in my church about the WT they think that l am being nasty because they don't get the way that members are manipulated." People just don't believe it.
Joliette, I know you are worried about being all alone if something happens to you. In my limited experience reading about jw's all these years I am reminded of the many, many posts from ex jw's who's parents were lifelong died in the wool (in good standing) jw's who in their later years and on their death beds got no visits or even calls from anyone in the cong. It wasn't the cong, elders or even long time "friends" in the kh who came to take care of the person, it was the ex jw. Often the siblings who remained jw's did not even take care of the parents or spend much time with them. Why do you think your experience would be any different?
Going back to the kh/jw's may seem like instant friends and instant bonding. There is no unconditional love though. You will always have to watch your back so to say, watch what you say, make sure you don't spill the beans about anything lest you become a possible 'danger' to someone. A bad associate. Could you really live with yourself if got someone else involved in the jw's knowing what you know now? Wouldn't you already have a big A (apostate) on you head if you went back now seeing as you left? There would always be a bit of suspicion surrounding you?
Have you heard of Meet Up? google it, there are meet ups (not sure with covid but perhaps even on line) on any subject you could possibly be interested in. Or join a book club, craft classes that are inexpensive and so forth. There are places to make friends both online and in person even during covid. Again, go volunteer somewhere! Nothing gets you thinking less about your troubles as when you go and volunteer where people are going through really tough things (childhood cancer, homelessness, women's battery/rape shelters, suicide hotlines, lonely elderly, paralyzed veterans, veteran hospitals, illiteracy, food banks/soup kitchens, etc.... (some may be difficult due to covid but there must be opportunities out there) At any rate you may meet some wonderful new friends along the way who also are looking for a friend.
Relationships are not instantaneous, they take time to cultivate and maintain. True relationships will not toss you overboard and have nothing to do with you just for thinking and believing contrary. A true friend will not shun you. They love you warts and all.
Do think about finding a pro bono or sliding scale therapist even if they don't understand everything about jw's. A therapist may not understand at first but they will get it and hopefully do some research along the way.
What is one good thing you can do today to improve your situation? Even a small thing. One thing each day. Sometimes writing things down helps, goals etc... Even watching your own thoughts can take work.
Ultimately no one can fix your problems but you yourself even if you went back to the kh/jw's. If you went back you would still have all the same problems and the additional weight that the jw's put on you.
Wishing you well.

Many therapists are doing a certain amount of pro bono help now due to the pandemic. Search around and maybe you will find one. You also can do tele-mental health online appointments from your own home.
Joining a church of some kind does seem to be the community feeling you are looking for. Maybe try a few different churches and see how you like them. At least in these churches you will have freedom of thought. Most churches have many social things as well, yes, even during covid though on a more limited basis. They also have ministries that help people with daily needs, sickness, loneliness, food, etc.... Volunteering would be a great way to make new friends!
I wish you well and hope you do not feel that the jw's are the only way. There are many options out there.

Does the Jehovah's Witnesses fall into category of being an organized cult ?
by Finkelstein ini think it does especially being that this organization is rigidly structured itself on formulated doctrines from a top hierarchy of men which are strictly enforced, among other reasons.
what cults are.
a cult is not necessarily a religious group, although religious cults are common, including breakaway sects from more mainstream faiths.

My first thought just reading the title of thread was, "does a bear x@#$ in the woods?"
How the wt could not be thought of as a cult is beyond me and that is after reading specifically about cults, brainwashing, etc....when mine first joined up, and all of those books did not even mention jw's. Many were going back to when US soldiers were coming back from Korea, psychology and so forth. Seeing my own husband succumb and its effects solidified my belief that jw's are most certainly a cult. One can clearly see him go into cult mode (eyes, mannerisms, speech, etc..) and I am not alone in seeing this phenomenon. Scary as hell when you see for the first few times! Was scary enough for me to see much less explain to children at the time.
Over time his spiral into jw-ism is less prominent, I think he has just learned to hide it better over time. He clearly saw that people were shocked by his demeanor, appearance or something when he went full on jw. I can still see it and it still pisses me off when happens. I'm trying, I don't show him that I am annoyed but it is there. Some things he says are right out of a wt or maybe their videos and it annoys me no end. I have become them- change the subject. sigh.
