Smoking = Disfellowshiping is it justified?? Do you do it now?
by Witness 007 inisn't smoking just as bad as "defiling the body our temple" with alcohol or drugs legal or illegal?
if i have glucoma will i be disfellowshiped if i smoke pot, since it is a doctor perscribed treatment?
those who smoke how do you justify ruining your health and finances?.

New BOE Letter
by jefferywhat inall boe have just got a letter telling them to encourage all parents to be more on guard with their children.
suggestions such as not letting your young children go to the toilet on their own, not working with older men on their own and not leaving children in the car on rv's and calls un attended.
the letter basically instructed the elders to remind all family heads that its their responsibility to protect their children whilst at and away from the hall etc.

The WTBTS recognises it harbours paedophiles and is putting the onus on the parents (and children) to make the Congregation 'safe'.

I can't see any justification for disfellowshipping a smoker. If the WTBTS is using the 'health' angle, then that too is unfair (as other posters have pointed out, no one can be ignorant of 'food health' issues today). The smoking 'ban' came in during the 1970s, when the 'dangers' of smoking were really just being recognised/acknowledged.
The problem (and there are loads, lol) with the WTBTS is that it claims to follow the Bible - when the smoking issue arose, I heard that tobacco is condemned in the Bible as 'wormwood'

Sass :- I'm thinking that it's time that every publisher gets issued with a number and a barcode. It would make their accounting SO much easier.
Gosh, now where have I heard that before....number of the Beast..?

Issue Number 2.... Incorrect Predictions.
by hotchocolate inokay, just to re-introduce myself, i was raised in the truth, regular pioneered for years, and am a member in good standing with my congregation.
i have just recently been shocked to realise that i actually have some doubts about the truth.
it helps for me to focus on one point at a time, and to write down my thoughts in a logical sequence.

"Would That All Were Prophets! .. You will be interested to learn that God has on earth a people, all of whom are prophets, or witnesses for God. In fact, they are known throughout the world as Jehovah's Witnesses"Awake!, June 8 1986, p. 9

Jehovah's Witnesses Are NOT Conscientious & They Don't Really Care!
by minimus inwitnesses try to make it sound as though they are very very conscientious people.
they care about you, your spiritual welfare, your everlasting welfare....but nothing could be further from the truth!
if they truly cared, they would see to it that they reached people to give them the lifesaving truth.

Yep - I've said this before - it's ridiculous they tramp door to door when 'the message' could reach millions more people in a fraction of the time....and 'householders' are more likely to 'listen' if they see the message on the internet or on TV (rather than strangers who come to their door) - times have changed. It isn't as though JWs reject modern means of spreading the message - cars are used in the Ministry to cover greater areas - and there's telephone witnessing too....it's hard to believe that JWs cannot see this.

From Rutherford -2008 Watchtower ="dont have kid's till after Armagedon!"
by Witness 007 inyes i thought rutherford's policy on kid's was dead and the society had wised up....until i read the new "witnesses only" watchtower study magazine...compare.. rutherford's last book "children" 1942 = p.281 "wait until after armagedon to bring children into the world...it is only afew years before the other sheep are gathered to the lord, until armagedon...those with infants during armagedon will have greater woe...it would be a far greater difficulty to care for them during the tribulation.".
watchtower 2008 april 15 p.19 {picture of a middle aged couple witnessing with question: why do some christian couples decide not to have children?
} paragraph 12 "single or childless for a noble purpose.....numerous couples have decided to remain childless....they often do so to remain freer to serve jehovah...they are willing to place kingdom interests above some of the privileges that go with marriage...jehovah will not forget their work, and the love they show for his name...there will be a great tribulation...doubtless, it will be a difficult time for all of us-adults and children alike.".

Maybe the WTBTS has put a little thought into this...with the Internet exposing the WT for what it is, more people are likely to fall away this is easier if you have a family network (and, of course, people usually name their heirs in their Wills)... . As besty said, without that individuals/couples are more reliant on the 'group'. Now, if couples remain childless, it is more likely that they would name the WTBTS as the beneficiary of their Wills (makes sense). Trapped..?

How Jehovah's Witnesses Control Your Mind - Controlling Your View of Truth
by flipper infor those of you, newbies or perhaps others who haven't read steve hassan's book - " combatting cult mind control" here are some very important things to remember of how jehovah's witnesses and other " mind control" cults operate .
it may help you to understand some things to see how we were all faked out at one time in our lives.
hassan's book states , " in totalistic cults , the ideology is internalized as " the truth ", the only "map" of reality .

"WTS might have some problems because imperfect
men run it, but there is nobody else out there preaching the good news and teaching an
accurate understanding of God's Word."Blimey OTWO - that must be a standard response - I've heard the same so many times - even during the recent paedophile 'scandal'! Brainwashed, yes...
Remember going out on service, and some houses would have a 'no callers' sign...which specified 'no Cults' ? - we were always told this doesn't apply to ''us'' as we're not a Cult. And I think, subconsciously, in my mind I had a 'hierarchy' of religion - there was the only TRUTH (us), then mainstream religion (which only existed because of its History) and then Cults, which were dangerous and full of crazy people...well now I STILL have that hierarchy, but it's all changed round, lol.

Apart from "My Book Of Bible Stories" and the "Paradise" book?
by Crumpet incall it my anal retentious streak, but i've rated every book i've ever read since i was 7. i had phases of favourite writers.. i was an enid blyton fan - the faraway tree, famous five, secret seven, mallory towers series.
then i got hooked on franklin w dixon's hardy boys and judy blume's eye opening, straight talking stories about growing up which really taught me everything i knew about what life was like for a normal girl not growing up in the jw world.
i started reading agatha christie when i was 9 and remember taking the maximum number of books i could from the mobile library van that came to our village and being as impatient for its fortnightly return as i was for the afternoon icecream van.
