Ok - just to clarify (for me please, lol) - the way I understand it now is that 1914 is no different from any other year...?

"Bible scholars have gone through our material with a fine-tooth comb, & never, ever, found anything wrong with it yet."
These stupid statements never fail to make me smile. I think we've all heard pretty similar stuff (from JWs who have only read the WT's literature)
Pretty soon, his daughter, + the leader of the local congregation, + letters to/from head office put me way over my head.
I was learning things I didn't know existed in Scripture.
Don't worry about it - most of what the WT churns out is way above the heads of JWs too. With all the constant changes, the old folks (and probably the younger ones too) can't keep up, they just accept it as been 'too deep' for them to understand. Not much of what the JWs believe DOES exist in Scripture.

Silly boy - at 15 he should be concentrating on schoolwork - his English is somewhat poor. But I suppose he'll be leaving school very soon anyway. Poor lad.
JWs insist they're hated and persecuted, yet simple common sense shows this isn't true. As for 'persection' in other lands, well, I imagine they are blatantly breaking the Law by preaching where they KNOW it to be unlawful (so hardly 'persecution'). I heard it said not long ago that JWs suffered more in concentration camps than the Jews .

Where was the semi-apology for the whole 1975 debacle?
by cognac ini heard it was in some 1980 mag but i don't know where.
also, what did it say?

1975 was a very real date in the mind of many JW's at the time, we became JW's in that year at least in part due to this. If you hear anyone say to the contrary they are at the very least disingenuous.
The talk of 1975 being the time of the end, or the beginning of the time of the end was spoken about throughout the wts then.
I imagine a lot of people got caught up in it, and the Watchtower would have made a huge profit from the sudden influx of converts - no wonder it didn't want to 'correct' the JWs from preaching 1975.

Now when I bring up 1975, she says I am totally wrong, it never occured and I must be insane. It is all apostate rantings!!!
Amazing - I posted similar on another thread today - I recently mentioned the 1975 thing to a JW (who I remember was preaching about it at the time), and they denied it ever happened! Has a whole group of JWs just 'blocked' it out as it's 'too painful' (or embarrassing) to deal with OR do they blame themselves (as the WT has intimated) so would rather forget?

July 2009 Awake (Other Interesting Quote)
by Interested Observer ini know this article was brought up with respect to the statement it contains regarding the fact that religion should not divide a family.
i finally got to read it and i found something more interesting a few paragraphs earlier.

It must be a PR piece for some land or court somewhere. The WT only prints articles that will benefit itself, and not the R/F.
Good point. Made me think of the pro-UN stuff they printed in the literature when they were affiliated (I believe it was a condition of being an NGO member?)

Bringing up 1975 surely would be a mistake..? The few JWs I've spoken to actually deny it 'happened' (the same JWs I remember as being hyped up at the time) - it's quite bizarre.
On another thread I read that 1975 was in the newspapers as being a 'JW prophesied date' - now, my thinking (as we know, the WT claimed that the JWs practically 'invented' 1975, and it - the WT - is totally innocent) is that the whole of Dubland should have been counselled by the GB/Elders/whoever for falsely promoting 1975 - the GB was aware that JWs were preaching this date!

Welcome Interested Observer ...
the Bible tells its readers not to believe everything they but to "test the inspired expressions to see whether they originate with God."
I'm only guessing, but I'd think that JWs interpret that as 'the GB have already done the necessary testing - we are truly blessed we don't have to bother'. JWs are actively discouraged from studying the Bible alone....
...or are you thinking that someone in the writing department is encouraging the R&F to question their beliefs? <shock, horror >

Excuse me, but this is sickening (DA Contributions)
by winstonchurchill ina letter from the wts was just read to our congregation: during upcoming district assemblies, there will be credit card terminal available so people can donate using their credit/debit cards.. maybe it's old news, but i just found out last monday, and i find it terribly disturbing.
the wts/jw's is becoming more and more mainstream, not different at all form those churches that are only after your money... oh, wait!
maybe tey are only after our money.. .

I've heard of this before (is it just USA?) - and sadly, nothing surprises me when it comes to the WTBTS's money grabbing ploys. THIS also seems 'grasping' as I assume it's aimed at 'Worldly' folks, as JWs donate at the Hall etc.

How did you REALLY feel when you where out in field service?
by megaflower ini never felt comfortable knocking on door and i hoped no one would be home.
my presentation was short and to the point because i did not want to get into discussions.
as we walked from "door to door" i secretly wished i could be like all the ones i saw in the nighborhood.

I'm the opposite to you boyzone - all the words whizz around my head but I'm rubbish at verbalising stuff. I was always worried that I wouldn't be able to preach the 'Truth' properly and people would die because of MY incompetence. Does that make sense?
Boyzone - your 'gift' in 'witnessing' need not go to waste now
