I agree with Isaac. The WT has stolen from other religions/beliefs (...with a sprinkling of pyramidology and occult..?), and usurped the God of the Bible with 'Jehovah' - 'borrowed' from the Catholics - and made 'Him' their own.

The biggest scandals in your local congs
by jacethespace inwhat was the biggest scandals[or incidents] in your own congregations that got you starting to doubt whether the watchtower was what it made itself out to be?.
one the things for me was the attitude of the people in the congregation after i had took some time off meetings and then returned again.i quickly realized there was no unconditional love only conditional love.also when the watchtower had a letter read out from the platform warning us to not watch the bbc panarama documentary on the watchtowers child abuse problems.and everyone just avoided watching it and said that it was "satan"trying to use anything to get us out the "truth".

I remember that Jace - although I wasn't attending at time I was told (by local JW) that they were prewarned about the programme and 'advised' not to watch it, lol.

Ask them to prove, from the Bible, that the FDS was chosen by Jesus in 1918/9 .
I have asked two Elders, one Mini Serv and one sister this question, they all promised to get back to me, none have.
Blimey Wobble - the amount of times I've heard the ''I DO know, but will need to get back to you'' (obviously, as the answer is never in the Bible, lol - and they don't return, as they DON'T know the answer)

My (very simple) thinking is that God's name has been 'lost' - and as there is only one true God, then His name is unnecessary. As YHWH = 'I AM', it appears (to me) not as a name, but as a statement. I also feel that if God wanted His 'name' to be venerated, there would be specific instruction to do so (where in actual fact it is a commandment to not take His name in vain - and, to me, that means trying to include it about 40 times in each prayer and using it willy nilly in common 'conversation' every other word - if you know what I mean). I also think that as God's 'name' is 'YHWH', then 'Jehovah' is a 'man made' god (1270 AD) replacing YHWH. Even as a JW, I always felt uncomfortable uttering 'Jehovah'. PS, just occurred to me (I'm slow, lol) - we pronounce YHWH as 'Yahweh', but as Hebrew is written right to left...are WE reading it backwards...?

Boys, boys, boys. I am not disagreeing with you I've already said I know it is VOLUNTARY. I was addressing reniaa's hit and run post of presuming to know the details of other posters' lives and experiences - she has zero idea of what they 'did' and 'didn't' know, etc.

daniel-p hi. I don't know what 'tripping balls' means. As I said, I have no personal experience of bethel, but from experiences I've read and from Ray Franz's experience (he is quoting young men of 19 and 20)I get the impression that although, YES bethelites are volunteers, many aren't really in full possession of what they are 'letting themselves in for' prior to going (a bit like minors not being in possession of all the facts before being Baptised). I imagine some of these 'volunteers' have this 'idealistic' impression of what it is going to be like (and let's be honest, at 19 with no 'Worldly' experience and little education they are 'innocents')...and then they find out differently.

How many lives have been RUINED by the Organization? Experiences?
by BonaFide ini think that some people deserve to be excommunicated, such as pedophiles.
but what about the tens of thousands of others that have their life wrenched out from under them by being disfellowshipped?.
and what about those that have a family member that died because of not receiving a blood transfusion?

maybe lol, I was trying to show we do not go into this religion with our eyes closed we go in with full knowledge
You are very, VERY wrong. I'm not even going to bother expanding on that.
what if s leave the witnesses and immediatelygoes on to do all the things the bible condemns doesn't that show they have lost a faith in god more than the Jws?
I have better morals/standards than a lot of JWs I know/have known - including yourself.
When armageddon arrives what if we get a few minutes of realisation before it strikes, what if the fire is reigning from heaven and destroying all including the people around us that have done all the things Gods condemns like adultery, fornication and have rejected the bible, Can they cry foul when the God has given them and the world clear warning?
See above. Leaving a corrupt 'religion' does not equate with leaving God or disregarding Bible principles.

Hello 77 (I can't call you 'verystupid', lol) - I'm just re-reading CoC, and Ray Franz remarks on how 'bethelites' respond to how long they've served at bethel -
I had never heard one of these young men respond by saying in round figures, 'about a year' or 'about two years', but, 'one and seven',
'two and five', 'three and one' and so forth always giving the year or years and the exact number of months. I could not help but think of the way
men serving a prison sentence often follow a similar practice of marking off time.
reniaa - do you sit at your keyboard all day waiting to post ill-informed and very bitter crap? I can't comment (on bethel) as I have never been, but many here have, and I very much doubt you are one of them. I know a lot of (current) JWs who would be ashamed to call you 'sister'.
