Last time I went to Kingdom Hall, there were only two collection boxes... ...just had a thought, if the WT are releasing a series of DVDs for children, then maybe a new (child friendly, lol) contribution box will appear at Kingdom Halls - at 'child height' and children will be encouraged to donate some of their pocket money (stress on parents the importance of encouraging them to get into habit of donating whilst young)

New contribution box at the hall ?
by Poztate indo you think in view that they now have wt production videos.. (a costly endevour) that they might in addition to the www, local and literature donation boxes start a wt video productions box with special guilt laid on parents with small children to donate ?.
it does seem to be all about the money so it wouldn't suprise me...how about you.

The Jackson Family Circus -or- WE know whats really going on with Katherine Jackson vs her kids...
by Unlearn inso, i dont know if this has been posted/addressed here...but watching this whole jackson family thing play out in the public eye is surreal.. the press assume that the only reason mj's brothers and janet are contesting his will and want control of the kids, is money.. seriously...mj's bros and sisters dont need his money: his bros get paid everytime you hear a jackson 5 song.
they're all millionaires.. janet is loaded.
but, the media doesnt know what we know...so they assume that the only reason they'd want mj's kids is for the $$$$ that come along with them as part of the deal.. we know better.. i believe a big amount of respect is due to janet and jermaine and the rest of the gang...theyre trying to rescue those kids from a jw brainwashing fate.. i'd bet money on it.. they say janet was trying to convince paris to willingly leave her grandmothers home and come with them.. im telling you...they're trying to save those kids.. and as any of you who have close family still in the cult can attest to, we apostates are some of the most loving, long-suffering people on the planet...as many of us publicly hold our tongues repeatedly when it comes to that cult, because we dont want to hurt mom, or dad, or kids, or siblings.

It was something that troubled me as a young teen - that my inability to preach such an important message would result in the deaths of those I called on. In contrast, I was recently talking to an elderly JW (of about 40 + years) and we discussed how they had never actually converted anyone...but they said as soon as they got someone interested, they would pass them on to someone else who was better at 'going in for the kill' so to speak. So it isn't about the 'heart condition' of the person, but the sales/manipulation ability of the JW.

WT Society Feels they are Above the Laws of the Land - Even in their own....
by flipper in...... words.
knowing that the candace conti child abuse case was probably coming down the turnpike as was the 5 out of court child abuse settlements the wt society settled in san diego, california - this past april as most of you know the wt society sent a secret letter instructing all elders to essentially keep their " pie-holes " shut ( mouths for those not hip to modern lingo ) and essentially instructed them to not divulge anything to any authorities investigating crimes or other information concerning wt organization operations.. someone posted a thread on this in april, however - with all the news coming out about wt child abuse coverups, the anonymous organization investigating the wt society , i felt it important to reveal some snippets of what the wt society instructed their elders regarding legal issues.
in one section it states, " when someone seeks confidential information : you should never reveal confidential information to anyone unless theocratic procedure requires it or the branch office has instructed you to do so.

Something that never struck me before, is what would the quality of these records/notes be - made by Elders with no training or apt skills who are not full time 'Ministers' ...? I think generally JWs do regard themselves above the Law where it conflicts with WT policy - which is regarded as a 'Higher Law' as it's perceived as God's Law (give unto Caesar etc etc...basically ONLY what you have to). And, again for lurking newbies... http://www.silentlambs.org/education/92_murder_letter.cfm

what is the dumbest thing you've been reproved/chided/df'd for?
by rather be in hades ini'm a big science nerd and i remember when we were going over the creator book, that the big bang doesn't necessarily prove there is no god.. i said this comment during book study and the conductor's jaw dropped.
everyone was pretty uncomfortable and it didn't help that he ct me off as i was explaining the red shift and mom wasn't too happy about all that.
i had to do a lot of bible research and write some nonsense about how the big bang was not reality or some sort...ugh.. .

When I was about 14, an Elder came and counselled my Mum for allowing me to wear a T Shirt depicting Christ with crown of thorns. It was actually a ''Saturday Evening Post Pioneer'' TShirt (quite popular at time - anyone else remember them?) depicting an aviator with his flying goggles on his head.

Irish slaves: the forgotten history of slavery in the New World
by King Solomon inthe bible, ot & nt, certainty doesn't prohibit the most basic of human civil rights, freedom from slavery.
of course, the bible was used to justify the ownership of slaves in america, as in many other lands.. an often-forgotten footnote in the history of america is that there was a time when poor white irish were imported from ireland to be sold as slaves during the 17th and 18th century.
in fact, their worth was considered even lower than that of black slaves, who often fetched a price 10x that of an irish slave!

An example of the slave trade that astounded me when I first read of it was of the English who used to enslave the Welsh, in fact the English word for the Welsh then became synonymous with slave, and the English exported the slaves to Africa !
...also (unrepealed Law)... Any resident of Chester is allowed to shoot a Welshman with a longbow if he is within the city walls on a Sunday (after sunset..?)

My parents had me almost convinced that I was not missing out by not celebrating my birthday, but watching my son shows me how much I did miss out on.
So true. It was my birthday last week, and I had three cards (one of those being from someone I've never met - but befriended in recent years on internet). I used to feel sad when I'd see my friends have a whole windowsill of cards - yet those who knew when my birthday was were discouraged from acknowledging it.
