I think it can go one of two ways. It appears that (in recent years) the Org has grown in numbers (mainly, I imagine, by breeding dubs and more 'converts' from developing countries - I would like to see what the 'shift' in statistics is). My CURRENT thinking (which could change overnight, lol) is that if scandals with widespread reporting continue, then a larger divide will develop between JWs and 'normal' Society. More of a separation - which the WT will encourage as 'no part of World' - but in reality, to prevent risking hard-core R&F (the consistent donors) coming into contact with too much adverse information. If publicity against the WT starts to threaten its credibilty, a 'good move' would be for the FDS to stop the preaching - without giving any reason, of course - this will 'plant the seed' that the End is close (and will draw the R&F into a tighter group). The preaching work could then restart at anytime (''we never said the end was close'' - 1975, anyone?). R&F would still then believe something is imminent, making up their own explanations.

Ten Years From Now .......
by Phizzy inwhat with the very low baptism rate, many leaving, many waking up and staying in for now, but not "zealous" any more, the wt/jw religion/scam is without doubt moribund.. i do not foresee a sudden end to the wt but what will it look llike in ten years time ??.
the late teens/early twenty year olds of today will i think be very thin on the ground as 30 year old jw's, so my view is that in ten years time it will be mainly old hardcore ones ,50 yr old and up, and even they will be aware that the org.
is dying..

Sparlock has a different name in some other languages
by cedars ini know for a fact that our beloved hero sparlock has been given a different name in at least one other language version of the "become jehovah's friend" dvd.
caleb has also been given a different name in the same video.
obviously it makes a degree of sense to rename caleb according to names that are common in various different countries.

That's exactly what I thought Open Mind - both parts of the name 'mean' something. So children will automatically 'respond' to 'sparring' and 'wizards'.

Ah yes, the connotations! No, the new name carries no "magical" connotations in our local language to my knowledge.
You are such a TEASE, lol

It's a COMPLETELY different name in my local language version
That's what I meant Cedars - there would be no need for a completely different name IF it is just a name. I'm intrigued if the 'new name' has a specific trigger in another language (hope I'm making sense)

It's weird that they would bother changing the name (as you say, 'Sparlock' itself is pretty 'language-free'). According to the Norwegian article, the WT spokesman seems unconcerned that it's being spread on the internet - in fact, doesn't he say it is available to the general public..?
I'd be interested to know what the name is in other languages, because 'Sparlock' triggers the word 'warlock' (in fact, 'fighting wizard') I doubt that is random.

Good article! Let's hope the British newspapers print similar ahead of our Convention (has the press here been 'tipped off'?)

Credit card machines at district conventions
by OneDayillBeFree inso it's true they are real.
i never thought i'd see the day when the org.
would be so desperate for money that they would do this.

Not seen one myself (at an assembly/KH), but maybe that's because I haven't attended since they were introduced (or maybe they haven't reached England yet...anyone know?). Frankly I think it's crass. It makes the WT look more like the business (not religion) it is. Gone is the widow's mite. As other posters have pointed out, it just encourages people to donate more (I think we've all paid for things on a card which we wouldn't pay for in cash, as psychologically, we're not parting with money).
But then, I think THIS is crass too (begging for money from 'worldlies')...

by irondork inhttp://www.greenvilleonline.com/article/20120622/news/306220009/woman-stabbed-outside-bible-study?odyssey=nav%7chead.
a man stabbed his wife outside her church thursday afternoon at kingdom hall on old spartanburg road, authorities said.. leonard edwards jr., 46, was being held thursday night in the greenville county detention center on charges of attempted murder and possession of a knife during commission of a violent crime, according to master deputy laura campbell of the sheriffs office and jail records.. the woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, campbell said.
she said the woman was stabbed once in the back.. about 30 to 40 church members were present for the bible study, campbell said.. a man asked the woman to come out of the church, and she did, campbell said.. she then ran back into the church followed by a man armed with a knife, campbell said.. the man had knocked her to the ground and stabbed her, she said.. when deputies arrived, congregation members were holding a man in the sanctuary, campbell said.. .

I shouldn't really laugh Steve, but that (your comment) was funny. I agree with Irondork - and the Congregation are all witnesses to that 'persecution'.
