  hi, my sister is a jw and last year was her final year of secondary school (17/18 years old over here), she received the prize for best student overall in the whole school.

  she's always wanted to go to university and become a lawyer and now since becoming a jw has changed her mind and is working in a restaurant clearing tables.

  which is a bit of a joke, because she'll end up stuck in that job for the next 30 years.. she doesnt want to go to university because "armageddon is coming soon so theres no point".

  It's true, they strongly suggest to avoid a college education. The last thing they want is someone who might learn to think for themself. Please someone tell me when I missed the part where the Ministry school taught poise and responsibilty that would lead to a responsible job!!! I imagine most of us had to do the janitorial thing at some time or another. I guess learning the "poise" might help while you are doing windows!!?????

  I was happy when I ran away and went and lived with my real dad in Texas. They gave me no choice--college or die.LOL I loved it. I even made college cheerleader and got involved in all the activites that I was not allowed to do in high school.

  When my JW parents heard I was going to nursing school, I got a nasty letter. They tried to FORBID me from going. I'd have to get too involved with the blood issue. That made me want to go even more. If I'd have listened to them, I would have been a single mom on welfare. That might be good enough for them, but not for my daughter!!

  lately i've just been getting contacted quite a bit by depressed zombie like cultist's.

  i thought i would welcome being contacted by dubs after i da'ed but i actually really find it annoying!

  they all drop comments like "nothing ever changes.." "i don't really go to the meeting's that much.." "i'm just so bored.." "if i didn't have meetings i could go back to school" "brother shitbag is a jerk.. i'm so sick of him.." "the elders treat me like a child" blah blah blah.

  Delilah!!!!!!!!!!

  I started laughing so hard I spit out my tea!! You and I must be thinking of that "other" WBTS that takes care of widows, fatherless children, and those in need. Hell, those in need could get more assistance from the Red Cross or the Salvation Army.

  My mom (yes, the one I just told to have a nice life), is older, has holes in the old trailer she lives in, needs some things done that she cannot afford to hire. By the way, did I mention she lives in the Columbia, MO congregation?!! Her initials are B.H. I figure if I keep mentioning, then one of the many lurkers might give the elder's there a call. Otherwise, I'm gonna keep this shit up, and stir in some more!! (Just cause I can & boy does it feel good!!)

  i work in my parents' hardware store.

  there are a few "friends" from the kh that come in here regularly and they usually stop by the office to say "hi, we miss you, blah, blah...when are you coming back?

  " there is one bro, i'll call him brother goof, who used to literally haunt me.

  Personally, if you really wanted to send a letter--send it!! If it'll make you feel better. I think next time he wanted to buy propane--I'd refer him to Hank Hill, king of propane and propane accessories!!!!

  Growing up, like with everyone else-any college bound courses for higher education was forbidden. No one ever taught me what it meant to have good credit. Of course, sisters never handled anything as important as the finances. After I left the borg, a couple years later I became a single mom trying to get thru nursing school. I don't think I've ever done anything as hard as that. I got alot of student aid and scholarships. It'll be hard, but it'll be so worth it in the long run. And the satisfaction of sending a couple graduation announcements to JW family was priceless!!!

  my mom was reinstated a couple years ago.

  there are 5 of us kids that are no longer jw's.

  Thanks everyone for the encouragement! I knew I did the right thing. It helps, though, coming from my 'family' now. After I hit the 'send' buttom, I knew I did the right thing. A big weight was lifted off my shoulders. It was almost spiritual!!!

  Jackyn- What you described is exactly what was happening! thanks! Mom has been on that enabling and tough love. Never could figure out where the 'love' was to begin with. It eats at her, too, that I had to go "outside the box" for my recovery.

  My year of clean time is still 3 weeks away. But I know I can do it. Lately when that old urge comes up, I get my ass on here. Ya'll have a way of getting my attention. I can usually feel the love and care here. Finding my new higher power, and FIRING the old was one of the best thing I ever did.

  I've been a nurse for a long time. I've had to watch 2 JWs die, because they wouldn't accept what the WBTS says now is up to each person. Another set of parents to a 4 yr. old was scared to allow the same procedure to save the child's life. The elders that were camped in the room were very intimating to them. On one hand, it's suppose to be an individual decision, on the other hand they all but told them there would be action taken if they accepted it. The ONLY reason the child lived was by the hospital taking guardianship. The elders even wanted the parents to remove the child. Later, the mom thanked me for intervening, basically getting them off the hook.

  It's true, there has been alot of new things learned because of Dr's trying to accomadate the JWs. But there are some things that can't be substituted. If I could help another person to live, I'd do it in a heartbeat!!

  My mother, who is a JW, is one of the most irritating bitches. Constantly "you need to come back to jehovah" and all the shit that comes along with it. Last night I had to email her and told her to "have a nice life", leave me the hell alone! So the irritating goes both ways!!!!!!

  I did something tonight that was long overdo! My mom was reinstated a couple years ago. There are 5 of us kids that are no longer JW's. Our relationship as always been rocky. She's been on this kick tonight about how I had to come back to Jehovah, and my life would be easier (gag me). Trying the guilt trip since my daughter and granddaughter "won't make it thru the "A"". I'm a recovering addict. Clean a year next month. But according to her, if she does anything to help me right now, she's enabling me. (that would have been right last year.) Basically, she's had that damn holier than thou attitude. She's emailed me probably 4 emails, all saying the same shit. I was trying to be nice, a little respectful. But that just went out the window!!!

  I reminded her since I"m df'd, she shouldn't talk to me. (hint,hint) I havn't needed her in the last 15 years. I damn sure don't want her around now. I told her to have a nice life, and stay out of my family's life. This is the mom that witnessed my stepdad molesting me, and did nothing!

  I actually feel better. I didn't cuss her, didn't tell her I"m pagan AND an apostate. Oh, but did I want to so badly!!!
