This may be relevant to your question. I am now looking at a copy of a letter I composed shortly after I DA'd myself. This letter I, in turn, convinced one of my neighbors to send to the society. The date was 12/10/1978. I'll transcribe a bit of it here.
Remember, this was pre-internet days.
"Gentlemen:I've read some publications recently which quote from, and even present to the reader in photostat form, "pages" of some of your older literature. I find this literature is not available at my local library for reference.
I would like to have verified the authenticity of some of the quotations before attempting to draw any conclusions. Therefore, I believe the only fair way to do it is to ask the publisher who is "supposed" to be the originator. Your reply on this will be sincerely appreciated. The quotations are as follows:
(snip, snip .. quotations ranged from Faithful and Discreet Slave teaching flip flops to Millions booklet prediction of 1925, etc, snip, snip)
My questions are:
1. Are the above statements accurately quoted?2. If not, exactly where do they deviate from being accurate?
Yours truly,
RB"
My point to all this is this -- neighbor RB never received a response from Brooklyn. She did, however, receive a visit from two older fellows in suits and ties, who quickly determined she was not interested in studying with them in the conventional way, that she just a trouble-maker.

Where's Bill Clinton when you need him?
It all depends on what you mean by the word dignity.(er -- certainly not what Webster means)

Are you happier out of the org?
by dobbie inhi everyone i was just wondering if those of you that have left the org for whatever reason, have found your'e much happier than when you were in it?probably a daft question but i tried to talk to a friend about how i was feeling about a few things and why i don't go to meetings and she said would i really be any happier out than in?it just got me thinking about why i joined in the first place, because i was lonely and down, although i still am several years later it seems!have you found life better on the outside?did you feel a sense of freedom or was it really hard to adjust?when i try to explain what i find hard in the religion they can always say something back that then makes me think i was wrong in the first place and it is the truth after all - aagh!

Anyone who left were forbidden to speak to those still inside the tent. There they sat, beet-red, telling each other that at least they were happier in the tent.
Thanks for sharing that one, Jgnat. For a never-dub and simply married to one, you have extreme insight.

Great Answer to Witnesses
by SixofNine in...when they ask what you offer to replace their faith, or they imply that theirs is the only hope for the massive problems in the world and ask "where (else) are we to go?"..
"[t]hat i have no remedy for all the sorrows of the world is no reason for my accepting yours.
it simply supports the strong probability that yours is a fake.".

by Fatfreek inyes, they're available from several web sites.
i have my favorite.

Yes, they're available from several web sites. I have my favorite. Most of us use them.
What I'm looking for, however, is a place that archives them. Is there such a place? I mean, what did the weather radar look like three days ago between 3 and 4 pm?

I just wrote to an elder
by Fatfreek ini just wrote to a former friend and current elder.
i'd like him to check out one of my jwd postings.
i suspect, since we haven't seen each other in some 35 years, he'll do it out of curiosity.

Why, if used appropriately, this could constitute "theocratic warfare!"
That wouldn't hardly be fair at all. No, wait -- I think someone said, "All is fair in love and theocratic war".

What's the BIGGEST LIE you ever heard?
by nicolaou in.
someone i knew stood up at the convention to answer her two baptism questions both with a "yes".
she was having an affair with a married brother at the time.. but i'd top my 'biggest lie' list with four small words; "in the beginning, god"

I can just hear the apologists in the background, "Oh, yes, we make mistakes. We're not perfect".
Let me remind you what my mama told me about lying.
There's no such thing as an honest lie!

Thanks for the encouragement, Drew.
I had two reasons to start this thread. One of them, of course, is the letter is sent to Allen.
The other, and one that I don't want to get lost is TinyUrl.com, a free service that takes an internet address, an URL, and shortens it -- but more important, in some cases, disguises it. Try it once and you'll probably like it:
http://tinyurl.comFor example, http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/7/116798/reply.ashx turns into:http://tinyurl.com/huo7b
