Thanks for posting this. For what it's worth, I filled out the Dr. Phil form with the following message: You will undoubtedly receive many experiences from those who, like myself, have been members of Jehovah's Witnesses. While their leadership currently penalizes members who accept blood transfusions, many of those members don't realize that Watchtower teachings (the primary teaching periodical of JW's) have been drastically modernized. When I and my parents joined in the 1950's, they had just shifted from a total rejection of medical treatment. With that thought in mind, you may find my recent forum posting (I am known as Fatfreek) interesting. Yes, I am the currently shunned (by JW children) father and grandfather. http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/16/91612/1.ashx Leonard R. Miller

Who sang Danny Boy in movie Gotham (Tommy Lee Jones)
by Fatfreek ini think the movie was a 1988 made for tv one with virginia madsen and jones.
the white vocalist, i'm told, gave an extremely good rendition of the classic, danny boy.

The Club for anti-theft car -- when key doesn't work, what then?
by Fatfreek ini had a scary experience this weekend in dallas.
when we returned to the car, i put the key into my anti-theft device (not the club, but similar) and it wouldn't turn.
it took some 10 minutes of jiggling and hitting and bumping till it finally turned and unlocked it.

Great suggestion, Oompa. I think that's what we'll do.
I was thinking of buying a set of bolt cutters just in case. Ha! $267 for a 3/8 capacity model for hardened steel. A hack saw can easily cut through the steering wheel to get the Club off but I don't want to even think about replacement costs on that item, plus re-installation.
I'm just gonna get over my paranoia, use it but don't lock The Club, and lock the car with no valuables showing. The radio is okay but not one I'd risk breaking in for.

My sagging garage door opening needs help
by Fatfreek inmy 8 foot wide garage door opening is beginning to look ugly.
the top of the opening (the header) sags approximately 1 inch in the middle.
to solve the problem, i think i need to place a jack in the middle, force it up till there's no sag (i've already done this with my hydraulic jack and a sturdy wooden column), then fasten, say, an 8 foot long steel plate to the inside wall face of the opening.

Ha! I'm glad everyone's sense of humor is peaking today.
Jgnat, I'm gonna miss you when we move.
The Missus: Yes, they do. And don't forget the baling wire and velcro.
Caedes: No he doesn't. That's why I'm so glad Sixy showed up with some practical stuff. He's been down this road before. Thanks, my friend. Hope to see you on November 1 where we can all break some bread together.

My problem: What width and thickness should the steel plate be in order to withstand those bending forces? I could place some type of weight scale between the jack and the column but don't have one other than our bathroom scale. I suspect I need something in the order of 2000 pounds or so capacity. Once this "strain gage" is used I think I could crack open my 30-year-old "strength of materials" handbook and calculate the width and thickness that the plate needs to be. Any suggestions? Len

That was a great common-sense link, cameo-d. Thanks. I'll soak the mechanism with a good heavy oil and by the time of our trip, it will have drained the excess.

Well, it's not Armageddon if it does happen.
Hey, I just noticed you're from Texas, James. I hope we can meet at the fest on November 1, after our road trip, assuming we still have the Avalon intact.
Last year we were in my sister-in-law's LeSabre going 50 mph, just north of the Grand Canyon, when a buck mule deer tried to cross the road. For a split second, we felt and heard the large thud, I saw the head and antlers make their brief appearance in front, then disappear. I saw, through my mirror, that he was tumbling into the driver's side ditch. We stopped and went back to see if we could put him out of his misery but he must've somehow crawled into the adjacent woods.

Hmmm ... that doesn't bode too well for these devices, does it James? Maybe I'm being paranoid about all this. We're going to be some 3 weeks on an upcoming road trip and we'd hate to have something like this happen -- luggage, laptop, cameras.
We have a 2007 Toyota Avalon. It does have some type of security system. Easily thwarted?

I told my wife that we're going to get a name brand, meaning The Club. She said, "suppose the key doesn't work in that one?"
She's right. Keys and locks aren't perfect.
I've since read where those devices are easy to bypass by simply cutting the steering wheel since it is mostly plastic. I suppose we could carry a hack saw in the trunk just in case it happens again.
What's your take?

A question to those who have downloaded this document from Lulu.
Most JWs don't realize their 1945? charter reveals their committment to worship Jesus. Have they since modified that statement? If so, when?
