I have been listening to a variety of podcasts over the past couple of months raging from Christian based to to various skeptic and atheist ones. So far I have come across two podcasts where former elders of JW's were interviewed and both of them mentioned that when it came to judicial situations involving issues of a sexual nature, that one or more elders often asked for way more detail than was necessary to ajudicate the situation. I know that was true in our congregation, but I assumed we just had a kinky elder who liked detail. Is this a common occurence in the org?

My son was murdered today
by truman ini have been on this site daily, almost from its beginning, since i left the jws in 2001, but i have been more of a reader than a poster, as you can see from my post count.
i know few here know me, although i know many of you through reading your posts.
maybe it is not right to ask for support, when i generally stay quietly in the background of this forum, but i want only to speak a human misery of the deepest kind.

Is the Watchtower shy about repeating their new "generation" teaching?
by slimboyfat inas i recall in the 1980s talks and watchtower literature, magazines and books were always talking about the "generation" teaching and how it proved armageddon was going to come any day now.. but am i correct in thinking they have only actually mentioned the new "overlapping generations" teaching once or twice in the literature?
why are they so shy about talking about their great new interpretation?
it's almost enough to make you suspect they are a embarrassed about it.. mention it once or twice, don't dwell on it, hope everyone just accepts it, and don't bring it up again.

http://www.jwbrothers.org - Who is behind this site
by donny ini checked out http://www.jwbrothers.org this morning and i went to the video section and looked at the video entitled "garbage island".
while the video points out the issue of plastic garbage in the ocean, i was shocked at all of all the "fucks" and "shits" used throughout the piece.
are jw's behind this site?

You visit The Home Depot and feel a strong urge to knock on the display doors.
You listen to "Walk of Life" by Dire Straits and treat as a Kingdom Melody.

I'll have to think about that and get back to you
by donny inyesterday afternoon i was speaking to my jw neighbor and he managed to get on the topic of "unity" that defines true christianity.
i then said "what if you have some in a church who believes certain days are more holy than others and yet others who think all days are the same?
is that acceptable?".

Yesterday afternoon I was speaking to my JW neighbor and he managed to get on the topic of "unity" that defines true Christianity. I then said "What if you have some in a church who believes certain days are more holy than others and yet others who think all days are the same? Is that acceptable?"
He replied "No, you can't have Christian unity if everyone if making up there own schedule of holidays to celebrate. You just can't."
I then asked him to explain Romans 14:5 where it said something to the effect that that was ok. He then went to his car and got his mini New World translation and looked up the verse which reads " 5 One [man] judges one day as above another; another [man] judges one day as all others; let each [man] be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day observes it to Jehovah. Also, he who eats, eats to Jehovah, for he gives thanks to God; and he who does not eat does not eat to Jehovah, and yet gives thanks to God."
He then closed the Bible and then looked at me and said "I'll have to think about that and get back to you."
Any guesses as to what will be his answer?
