Great article Cedars! This data fits into my reality that I have encountered since leaving the Witnesses. I am continiously amazed how little the "world" knows about the JW's apart from the blood transfusion issue and not celebrating holidays.

Nathan Knorr's own circuit assembly badge?
by FatFreek 2005 infor what it's worth, the following image was sent to me in an anonymous email so i can't testify to its authenticity.
she (or he, since it wasn't signed) says he/she was one of the bethel housekeepers and spotted the name tag in a waste basket.
at that time, the early 70's, knorr was regarded by many, including this person, (though disliked by even many bethelites) as god-like.

Unfortunately for me I did not begin serving my sentence in the WT until 1982. By then they were already in the "we didn't say 1975 was definitely going to be the end" phase. I remember them talking about Ray Franz and his apostasy and they used that to show that even Jehovah's elite can be deceived. I also remember the year 1984 and the "Generation that will not pass away" talks and magazines and how important it was for us to "Keep on the Watch." I finally left the org in 1992.

Knorr lived just long enough (died 1977) to see his pal Freddie's 1975 prophecy fail. You wonder what went through his mind in those last few months. Did he think "Dammit Fred, you have really screwed things up now!!"

Jehovah, the God of Parking Lots
by 00DAD inthis idea was brought up on another thread today, but i thought this particular angle deserved it's own thread.
have you ever noticed that jws that have completely swallowed the kool-aid are really whacked in their thinking when it comes to interpreting life's events.
bb, "because i got the parking place and they didn't.

Hey, it works and I have irrefutable evidence. I was really constipated last week and after two days I said "God, why can I get rid of this constipation?" Shortly after the condition was relieved.

Were you surpised how little the "world" new about JW's after you left?
by donny ini have been out of the jw organization for some time now and have been fairly active in discussing my adventures in watchtower with those who are interested.
what really surprised me in the first few years after leaving was how little the "world" knew about jw's.
we were taught that we have been warning the unwashed for 100+ years and they resist the message because satan keeps them from grasping this "good news".. in the many discussions i have had with these folks since leaving, it is amazing how little or no understanding about jw's beyond the blood issue and holidays they have.

In the many discussions I have had with these folks since leaving, it is amazing how little or no understanding about JW's beyond the blood issue and holidays they have. When I mention 1914, the non-diety of Jesus, his also being Michael, the living forever on earth and just about anything else, they are clueless as to these teachings.
That says volumes about the copious amounts of time and effort that has been spent witnessing as well as the billions of magazines, books and other printed material that have been distributed among the public. All of this has had minimal effect in spreading the JW message. Were you suprised at how little the "world" knew about the Witnesses?

Does every congregation have a "perv" elder?
by donny ini have been listening to a variety of podcasts over the past couple of months raging from christian based to to various skeptic and atheist ones.
so far i have come across two podcasts where former elders of jw's were interviewed and both of them mentioned that when it came to judicial situations involving issues of a sexual nature, that one or more elders often asked for way more detail than was necessary to ajudicate the situation.
i know that was true in our congregation, but i assumed we just had a kinky elder who liked detail.

I guess the "sexually repressed" comment does seem to fit the criteria well. In my hall the "perv" was a middle aged man who was married to one who was overweight and not prone to much conversation. When he went on his first vacation in years and asked me to take care of the congregations donations while he was gone, he gave me his briefcase which also contained copious notes on various judicial cases in our hall. Just reading some of them made me have to take a cold shower.
