Shunned by ex-jw's
by Joey Jo-Jo inthere seems to be a double standard among ex-jw's who believe and practice christianity.. i have lost 3 subscribers from my youtube channel all because of speaking my mind, it was not invasive or rude, but my last two videos appeared to have offended them.. so what happened?
as an atheist i raised some issues regarding the mind set of christianity that it borrows from jw's, in other words i was showing christian ex-jw's that they are behaving just like jw's.
the double standard is simple to grasp:.

Are JW'S "hated" in all the world? Or...are they considered IRRELEVANT?
by Terry inwathctower 90/1/1 p. 12 par.
8 not ashamed of the good news .
while it is true that jehovahs witnesses are hated and opposed in all the nations of the earth, this is in fulfillment of what was foretold to be an identifying mark of genuine worshipers of the one living and true god.

I haven't either Terry. After leaving the Society in September 1992, I was amazed how little the general public knows about JW's other than the blood issue and avoidance of holidays. I would have to vote for irrelevancy.

It is amazing how these folks use any tragedy to have an excuse to pass out literature. It was just a few weeks ago that a minsterial servant in a congregation murdered a woman who attended the hall and how that was a great opportunity to unload a carton or two of "Bible Teach" books.

January 2013 warns parents to resist contact with df'd children again
by stuckinlimbo insee page 15-16. full of "straw men" like:.
* do not blame yourself it is the child that jehovah blames - parents do not care whose fault it is they just want their child not to be killed by god.
* it is ok for parents to hope their df'd child returns - was anybody really asking if that was wrong?.

Yeah they are putting up the fences again.
This past May when I went for my twice yearly visit to Dallas, I met up with my son (now an elder) for lunch as we always do but I could tell from his voice when he called me with where we were going to meet that there was something wrong.
When we met he, on the verge of tears, told me that he was going to have to follow Gods word as close as he could and that means that we would no longer be able to meet together when I visited. He basically gave me a "good-bye dad I love you, but I can't see you anymore" speech.
Needless to say I was quite disturbed at this development but there was no talking him out of the situation.
The my mom called me about two months ago and said that he and his wife will leave their jobs in December and travel to Los Angeles to train to be better ministers and after that they will go wherever the Watchtower Society sends them so they can "serve where the need is great."
This upset me even more as they were quitting good jobs (he is a mechanical engineer and she a teacher) to go on a quest to try to save the Watchtowers crumbling organization. -

The latest is LED technology if I am not mistaken. It's hard to believe that the florescent was so short lived.

I agree that was a dumb decision. I have heard worse accents before. I once heard a woman of Geman/Austrian decent say "The Vashington Monument" and she was ok. Makes you wonder that if it had been any other accent other than a Southern one, would they have done the same.

The Best of Both Worlds
by donny inno, i am not quoting the title of van halens greatest hits cd.. it is a statement of how successful the society has been in molding their "faithful and discreet slave" concept of total trustworthiness.. on one hand they deny that the faithful and discreet slave are infallible when it comes to revealing the words and commandments of god.
they have no position of "ex cathedra" as the pope claims to possess.
therefore they can "sometimes" be overzealous or have a misunderstanding on a matter.. however on the other hand they claim that these occasional missteps are very few and far between therefore we should award them the honor of trusting them to be the sole channel of gods communiques.. this came to mind because of a jw that i work with made this comment.

No, I am not quoting the title of Van Halens greatest hits CD.
It is a statement of how successful the Society has been in molding their "Faithful and Discreet Slave" concept of total trustworthiness.
On one hand they deny that the Faithful and Discreet Slave are infallible when it comes to revealing the words and commandments of God. They have no position of "ex cathedra" as the Pope claims to possess. Therefore they can "sometimes" be overzealous or have a misunderstanding on a matter.
However on the other hand they claim that these occasional missteps are very few and far between therefore we should award them the honor of trusting them to be the sole channel of Gods communiqués.
This came to mind because of a JW that I work with made this comment. "I trust the slave to be the mouthpiece of God because there is nothing better out there."
I asked him "have you really looked at any other alternatives?"
He replied "No and I don't need to, they have proven themselves to me."
"And how have they done that? I queried.
"By diligent prayer and study of God word. I know that sounds silly to you, but it works wonders for me."
When I asked him if he had any issue with the Faithful and Discreet Slave claiming the best of both worlds in regards to infallibility he replied "Yeah I know on the surface it seems absurd, but being that we are imperfect beings, there is no other way for it to work."
"But cannot God pass on infallible information?"
"Yes, he can and does, but it is imperfect man who must make sense of that information."
"So if he passes on infallible information and the Faithful and Discreet Slave misunderstand it and pass that wrong interpretation to his sheep then that is acceptable?"
"Yes it is because as I said a minute ago, we are imperfect and there is no other way for it to work."
"So the Faithful and Discreet Slave have the best of both worlds of infallibility / fallibility when it comes to speaking for God."
"Yes they do. Being true servants of God brings advantages not afforded to Christendom." (I hadn't heard that word in a while)
"Well that must be nice."
"It is and you should start attending meetings again so you can reacquaint yourself of that truth."
That is an offer I will have to pass up. Although I was part of that organization for many years, it now sounds funny to me to hear such rationalization of a matter. How many other religions can so successfully claim the best of both worlds?
