Sing Dirges to Jehovah?
by donny inback in 1985 my then-wife and i were having a lunchtime "gathering" at our place to show some support to the ones in our congregation who were full-time pioneers.
i had just recently received the vinyl collection of the songs featured in the song book "sing praises to jehovah" which had been released the previous year.. .
many of these melodies sounded depressing to me although i would have never admitted it at the time.

LOL noolite I also remember the song "Keep Your Eyes On The Prize". I recall a funny incident related to that song back around 1986 involving two young JW's. One member had reported that he had been out in Field Service with his partner and close friend when the friend put in a cassette in the car stereo and it began to play.
This close friend of his had recorded a parody of this song. He said he did not recall all of the verse lyrics verbatim but it was a story about a good looking woman that worked at a restuarant that they often visited while in service. The chorus of the song contained the line "Keep your Eyes on her Thighs."
The songs creator was reproved and left the organization a year later.

Suggestion for title of final Final Talk from GB
by sparrowdown inok, so it's right before the big a.. gb are just about to depart heavenward but not before leaving us something to remember them by.. so after several rounds of rock, paper, scissors one of them goes up to the podium, adjusts his tie, clears his throat and says....... .
"so long, and thanks for all the fish".
now anyone familiar with hitch hikers guide to the galaxy would know that was.

Where is Jesus according to the WBTS?
by Frazzled UBM ini have been reverse witnessing to a witness at work who i told about my witness wife.
i think he thinks he is well on his way to make me a study but i have asked him to provide evidence that the wbrts is what it claims to be by reference to how it was appointed and how the current gb came to inherit that authority.
but one issue we ahd was the position of jesus accordign to the wbts and he said that he sits in heaven at the right hand of jehovah planning the future.

In my experieces since leaving the Witnesses, I always direct them back to the "inspection" period and make them take a long, deep thought about what they are claiming in todays "present truth." They state that Jesus sat down on his throne in October of 1914 and for the next 4 and 1/2 years looked down upon the earth to see who was doing Jehovah's will.
A group of workers known then as International Bible Students were the only ones who had kept on the watch and had declared 1914 as the time of his return.
The problem is that they were not "on the watch" because they had believed Jesus had returned in 1874. According to this group, Jesus had been back for 44.5 years when he supposedly selected them as the faithful and discreet slave in the spring of 1919.
And as he selected them, they were in the midst of creating even more false teachings which they continue to do to this day, i.e. millions now living will never die, Armageddon in 1925, in the "remaining months" of 1941, 1975, the generation of 1914, etc.
I still amaze myself that I was able to revel in such delusional thinking.

Watch as JWs are 'educated' by their 'bible student' about evolution, abiogenesis, Watchtower quote mining, etc. LOL.

How do JWs Not see how barbaric YHWH is? Its what started my awakening.
by BU2B inif one reads genesis from the first chapter through the end with an open mind, it is clear that not only is it not true, but that god is potrayed as a cruel, petty, childish micromanaging tyrant.
if one continues reading the ot this is just further solidified.
how do jws not see the obvious?

It was the Old Testament, a.k.a. Hebrew Scriptures that really started my questioning. Besides the other tons of bad behavior of Jehovah, it was a talk an elder gave on Job that did not set well with me. He spoke about how great integrity was shown by Job in handling all of the adversity that Satan was putting upon him. At the conclusion of his talk he stated that Jehovah rewarded him by "replacing" his 7 sons and 3 daughters that Satan was given the clearance to kill.
That statement always bothered me. If Jehovah had allowed my three kids to be killed, there is nothing that he could do to replace them or justify it in any way that I would find acceptable. I did not see how being a pawn in Jehovahs and Satans chess game was a good thing.
After that I began to look at other horrors in the OT and eventually I exited the Watchtower and eventually religion itself.

Here we go again. Dan 4 and 1914
by leaving_quietly inwtbts published a new article on jw.org (http://www.jw.org/en/bible-teachings/questions/daniel-4-bible-chronology-1914/) entitled "what does bible chronology indicate about the year 1914?
" in it, it points to daniel 4 as the prophecy and uses the same leaps of insane logic to get from the first and only fulfillment of that prophecy to 1914, using 607 as the starting point and 2,520 years as doubling the 1,260 years in revelation.
of course, there is no accounting for the difference in our solar years and the bible's lunar years, which makes the math have a very different outcome.

What is also interesting about the 1914 date is when Russell realized that there was no year Zero, he changed 1914 to 1915 for a brief period. Then when 1915 proved to be lacking anything significant to hang his "prophecy" on to, he moved his starting point, 606 BCE to 607 BCE and 1914 was reborn.
