Allow myself to introduce....myself
by pele38 ini must say, i never thought that i would see the day when i would find a site about disillusioned (mostly) jehovah's witnesses, but low and behold...one truly exists.
first let me start off by saying thank you to the creators of this site, and i'll have you know that i've been lurking for several days now and i am just finding the time to finally log on.
i've been a member of the borg for over 20 years now, been baptised for about 14 of those years and now i find myself in the most unusual of places.

disfellowshipped for gluttony?
by onintwo inhello jwd board community.
just wondering.. has anyone ever heard of a person being disfellowshipped for the terrible sin of gluttony?
isn't it ranked right up there with drunkeness, adultery, murder, etc.?.

I've never heared of anyone ever getting into trouble for gluttony, although if this were to happen it would explain why every sister in my local congregation is constantly on a diet, or maybe thats just vanity.

What songs stand the test of time?
by JV inseeing as i'm dowloading songs so i can blast them at the neighbour kids, i was thinking, what songs stand the test of time?
what songs do you listen to over and over again and never get tired of.
here's my list.. if you tolerate this - manic street preachers.

Oh, there are so many.
Anything by Guns N Roses, or Bob Marley and I love Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd too, but really, the list could be endless.

I don't smoke anymore but when I did it was Malboro lights and then Richmond Menthol.
I love the smell of a pipe, reminds me of my grandad, but don't think I'd suit one.

Yet another "My Story"
by mapleaf18 inmy story: and i apologize in advance for the long post.. i was born to special pio parents and i attended my first meeting when i was 6 days old, which was unusual in the 50s and 60s because babies were usually quarantined for the first month or so.
my mother had a poor childhood and was often placed with uncaring relatives which served as foster homes.
my father was raised in a single parent home by his divorced mother who was looking for answers.

This is the second story today to bring tears to my eyes, those witnesses really have a lot to be sorry for, I just hope that someone out there who is considering treating their kids the same will read this and learn something.

GIVE A GOOD WITNESS---------------
by vitty in"give a good witness" today i made an effort to wave to my neighbour, not because i particularly wanted to or like him, but had a feeling i needed to "prove how nice i was or to give a good witness" .
habits die hard, this follows on from the guilt thread.
i still feel that *i put on a front, i cant be myself, in case i do or say something that could bring reproach, what the hell on i dont know i havent been to a meeting for over a year no one here knows i was a witness.

I know exactly what you mean, I always find myself doing this, smileing at strangers, holding doors open for people even when I'm in a hurry, giving up seats for other people etc, my boyfriend always laughs at me and says I'm too polite but I think its a witness thing.

Superstitious JW Nonsense
by 95stormfront inone of my jw relatives was relating to me another one of their superstitious nonsense stories designed to demonize every damn thing that doesn't fall into an approved wt list.
she was telling me about a her friend, who upon cleaning a relatives house, found a voodoo doll with a prayer to demons written on paper that it took an hour to burn.
she also related to me how in the hour it took to burn the demon paper prayer, everyone around them getting sick and falling into convulsions.. i guess she was a little perturbed that i was .

I heared all manner of spooky stories while growing up, I think my dad and older half sister realised that I was petrified and so if they told me enough ghost stories I would be too afraid to ever leave the org.
One that sticks out is this:
My sister reckons that while she was a teenager in the 70s she had a friend whos family moved into a new house, to begin with everything was fine but after a few weeks this friends dad went up into the attic to clear out all the old boxes left by the previous occupants, he came across an interesting looking chest and decided to open it, as he opened the lid he became aware of a change in atmosphere and a cold chill went through his body.
After that the house became haunted, things would switch on and of by themselves, noises could be heared, figures seen, the usual stuff really.
This bloke reckoned he could hear voices in his pillow and was seen by my sister carrying a box along the road, apparentely he was very protective towards the box, wouldn't let anybody touch it and then somehow it came about that my sister found out there was nothing actually in it.
Anyway, the bloke ended up commiting suicide inside the house and the family moved.
As a cynic now I dont believe this story to be true (unless the bloke was mentally ill), but at the age of aprox 7 it was pretty frightening.
