Baptism and children/young adults
by mavie inthe recent wt article about baptism really got me thinking.
if baptism is the most important decision one can make in their life, why should someone take that step before they are deemed old enough to marry, vote, or drive a car?.
which is more important, marriage vows or baptismal vows?.

Proper Etiquette for Disfellowshipped JW's.
by Dune inlooking back, i realize the stigma attached to df'ed and da'ed people, its as if they're supposed to be there and not there at the same time.
they're supposed to be extremely unhappy and hopeless.
when you see a df'ed person everything in their life is supposed to be going wrong because "they dont have jehovah in their lives" and when theres a df'ed person who doesnt fit the category they're hated even more.. there's a df'ed person in my congregation, i remember years ago (before i started posting here) i used to absolutely detest the sight of this guy.

There's a DF'ed person in my congregation, i remember years ago (before i started posting here) i used to absolutely detest the sight of this guy. Unlike most DF'ed persons who come in after the song and sit in the back, this guy would consistently come in 15 minutes before the meeting and sit in the front of the hall.
Sometimes he'd walk around before and after the meeting and slow down as he walked by as if he wanted to ask you something. One of the things that irritated me the most was that he'd laugh at the jokes made during the public talk.
I felt as if he was defying Jehovah because of how "normal" he looked and acted.
What do you guys think?

Double Standards?
by OpenFireGlass intalk about a dysfunctional family life.... did anyone else experience growing up in a dub family that had a double standard for siblings?.
my younger sister was allowed too: have new kids on the block posters on her wall, as well as gotten taken to a nkotb concert... have & play a keyboard.
pick her own music, & have a boom box in her room.

I think thats the whole "the first is the experiment, the second is the one that gets pampered" theory.

FLUFF: Tell us your favorite weird movie, and...
by GentlyFeral inall right, now that we're talking about movies again, let's turn each other on to some of these:the best movie you thought you'd hatemine are: perfect blue my first exposure to intelligent anime.
come to think of it, this is definitely a "best weird movie," too.fight club i'd been avoiding it for years because of the violence.the truman show i mean, jim carrey's mugging plus cliched preachments.
well, that's what it could have been.basquiat a depressing ending to a story of mixed accomplishment and really bad judgement, complicated by mental illness but the scene where he hallucinates a work of art he has just designed, and smiles it explains so much.

"Armageddon Survival Classes"
by Bonnie_Clyde in.
amazing how much closer i listen to the meetings than i used to.. today's visiting speaker in his final prayer referred to the meetings as "armageddon survival classes.

Never heard that one.
I'm always amused when i hear elders saying that regular meeting attendance is important because when the great tribulation strikes, we'll have to move from place to place and if you miss one meeting you'll never find the group again. lol.

Prince Websites
by kojo inhello, this is my first time posting here after finding this site a few weeks back.
i studied jehovah witness teachings for a brief time, when i knew little of the bible during my teen years, but fortunately came to realize the witnesses were not christian at all.. however since i was teen i have followed and enjoyed the music of prince more than any other singer/artist.
i always loved his ability to express both the carnal and the spiritual in his songs, the very thing that makes us human.

Dune
I'm still officially a witness (attempting to fade away), whenever the subject of prince comes up i'd say 7 out of 10 of the witnesses i've met love his music.
I'm not from the prince "era" so i cant really say i like his music much, however, i do like Black sweat.

Armageddon Clubs
by Dune inwhen i was 13, i remember an 18 year old "brother" telling me that he and his friends were part of some pact called the "armageddon club".
the object of this club/pact was to stay single(unmarried) until armaggedon.
the last person to stay single would win something like a sum of money or bragging rights i guess.
