I was during my early years. I honestly considered it a great privilege to be around such spiritual "giants." If I got to work with the CO or even one of the elders I looked up to, it made my day, week, month. After 6 years of pioneering and several more just puttering along trying to make the minimum every month, my zeal for such "privileges" had waned considerably. However, I will say that even toward the end I enjoyed working with some of the great elders in my congregation; unlike the COs who are mostly out of touch with reality, some of these elders who juggle careers, families and cong. responsibilities are great guys who still have my utmost respect on a personal level.

Calling all ELDERS
by The Oracle inif you are an elder who frequents this site, please let me know.. i am trying to connect (completely anonymously - your privacy is assured) with as many elders as i can.
i know that there are hundreds of elders in the same position as myself (have had our awakening and have come to realize that "the truth" is a sham).. i encourage you to continue to serve as an elder and for you to work together with other like minded elders as a collective force for true good.
there is much we can do from the inside to help the cause.. there are thousands and indeed millions of kind and honest hearted people whose only crime is that they have allowed themselves to be deceived and are still active jws.

Very interesting--I have to believe that the tighter they squeeze, the more thinking people will begin to question the whole "arrangement."

Are you an a-xenist?
by AuldSoul in"xeno" is a common taxonomical designation for aliens (strangers) including extraterrestrials.. are you someone who lacks belief in intelligent extraterrestrial beings?
do you believe it is possible that such extraterrestrial beings exist?
do you think it is possible or likely that our planet has had interactions with extraterrestrials?.

An astronomy professor was discussing this recently. The conclusion was that there probably is intelligent life elsewhere but the chances that they are technologically advanced enough to communicate across the vastness of space (let alone travel here) is pretty slim. The distance even to the nearest star is incredibly far and since nothing travels faster than the speed of light, it would take some gargantuan technological leaps to communicate with beings in another galaxy for instance. The nearest galaxy to the Milky Way is the Andromeda galaxy which is 2.5 million light-years away. So if you send a message from here to there at the speed of light today, it will take 2.5 million years to get there--at which point we may have been wiped out of existence or evolved into a higher form of life. Also you have to factor that while the universe is approx 15 billion years old, most earth-type planets hospitable to life formation would be found in 3rd generation star systems which means that you are dealing with a period of only about 5 billion years in which life-forms would have to evolve and develop sufficient technology to reach out across the universe. Anyway, it's all quite mind-boggling...

I just came across the same story on MSNBC.com:

This just goes to show that neccesity is the mother of invention.

Why are so many JWs hicks?
by kristyann inokay, i know this might sound like an obvious question... but in all reality, why are so many jehovah's witnesses hicks?
why does it seem that there are so many in rural areas?
i hope this doesn't offend anyone... i don't really mean it to be an insult to any of you, cause obviously i consider most of you a lot smarter than some regular jw (or some stereotypical hick).

I guess it kind of validated my point that an awful lot of JWs are hicks... ALMOST (not all, but almost) everyone that responded was from a rural area! I asked the question, and it was answered by almost all rural people themselves! That kind of reinforces the point. I think that they meant to argue my point, but in reality they actually just confirmed it.
Actually kristyann, the city folks wanted to chime in too, but they couldn't figure out how to talk into the computer and make words come up on the screen

Did they tell you at the end of the school to "watch out" for the post PSS blues?
Yes, I seem to recall that when I attended in '91. I actually enjoyed the school. We had a couple of older, but lovable CO instructors--not the grouchy stick-in-the-mud types.
One was a former Zone Overseer in the South Pacific--he had the most hilarious stories to tell of adventures with the locals. One time he and Milton Henschel had to meet with a tribal chief who had ordered all JWs off his island. They negotiated with the chief, his sons and other officials for hours. According to tribal law, if the chief's order was not rescinded by midnight, the "offenders" would be picked up physically and thrown off the island into the ocean. It was a close call but they eventually persuaded the chief to change his mind. As far as what we actually learned, it was mostly just a lot of review and basic suggestions, no real great insights or revelations. One interesting thing: I found out later that one of the young sisters who had attended the same PSS began partaking a few years later. Now I really feel privileged to have gone to school with one of the "chosen ones".

I knew of a CO, last name Skinner, who came straight out of MTS and into the Circuit work. I think he was 28 or 29. He always had flocks of young eligible sisters following him around at assemblies.

Given the sensitive nature of the reactions to this topic, perhaps we can infer that most EX-JWs are hicks. (I'm kidding)

Follow this a moment (we'll leave children out of the reasoning for now):
(1) Anyone who is not a Witness at Armageddon is going to die eternally.
(2) Anyone who dies BEFORE Armageddon has a chance at resurrection, because their sins are paid for.
(3) It takes six months to upwards of a year to become a Witness if the student works at it.
(4) It takes a few minutes to kill someone.
(conclusion) it is much more efficient use of time to go on a killing spree than to preach to people.
I figured this out when I was 12. There are Witnesses who reason this way, and viewed from inside the cultist mindest the logic is flawless.
Sorry but you once again display your fundamental misunderstanding of what MOTIVATES most JWs. This entire scenario is pure rubbish, and will never happen.
