It's amazing how many of us sacrificed literally the prime years of our life. Like S4 and many others here, I was extremely active as a JW. I remember when I resigned as an elder in May of 2000, a good friend commented, "Well, you can take satisfaction in the fact that you gave your best years to Jehovah by serving as an elder." Of course, now he won't even talk to me. I guess part of the reason many of us are here is to try and gain some understanding, or find meaning in what amounts to an almost incomprehensible loss of decades of our lives. To know there are so many of us who have lost so much is profoundly sad. Sometimes it reminds me of the movie, "Awakenings", except we don't have to go back to sleep! Oops, forgot this isn't supposed to be demoralizing. Well, too late for that, I guess.
i got an email inviting me to join a "christian witness" group of apparently christian-oriented x-jws.
like many of you here, i no longer have any desire to be involved with anything even remotely approaching organized religion.
my concern in receiving this email is that someone apparently either thought or hoped i did, and as a consequence, provided my email address to someone i don't know without my knowledge or permission.
Thank you, everyone, for your responses.

No, I've never belonged to any Yahoo group. He said that my email address was provided by someone who thought I'd be interested. Sure I can stop email from him, but not from any others this person may provide my email address to. Just wanted to be able to tell them please stop. Oh well.

I got an email inviting me to join a "Christian Witness" group of apparently Christian-oriented X-JWs. Has anyone else gotten one? Like many of you here, I no longer have any desire to be involved with anything even remotely approaching organized religion. My concern in receiving this email is that someone apparently either thought or hoped I did, and as a consequence, provided my email address to someone I don't know without my knowledge or permission. I asked the sender to please provide the email address of the person who provided him my address, in fairness, so that I could ask them to no longer give out my email address without my permission. We have had three email exchanges and he refuses to provide this. I reminded him that Jesus taught we should treat others the way we would like to be treated. If I had solicited him to join an agnostic group, wouldn't he want to know who had provided me with his email address, so that he could ask them to cease and desist? I would appreciate it if a few of you would contact him and let him know what you think about this kind of behavior. His name is Joe and his email address is: jmasonemerson-at-yahoo-dot-com

jesus said, "i am the way, the truth, and the life.
" he didn't say he had the way, or that he had the truth, or that he had the life.. according to the bible, jesus is the truth; if you know the truth, the truth will set you free.. jehovah's witnesses set their dogma and religion in the place of jesus.
they refer to their dogma and religion by a role that jesus said he would personally fulfill; they call it "the truth.".
The WTS, by encouraging a corporate theological amnesia on its membership, manages with a nimble dexterity that is only possible in a hermetically sealed society, to overide any qualms that the majority would have.
I don't believe the same as you, but my, mog, what a finely crafted sentence! I salute you!
Lenny
many new ones or lurkers may not know this but charles russell was not the first wt president like they teach!
who cares you may say?
well if i showed you where they acknowledged this in 1993, but as recent as 2001 they were still printing he was, would that not be valuable to you to show others the watchtowers deliberate deciept??
Title designations such as "President", "Secretary" and "Treasurer" argue strongly that a corporate entity was in existence at that time.
we've had many jh and minimus threads that start with questions.
we've had loads of "why do you keep doing this?
" and "get a life!
It seems to me the primary power of this discussion forum lies in the collective knowledge, insight and research regarding the JW experience. I would like to propose that a section of this board be set up and maintained as a wikipedia-type reference area regarding various issues. This would be the next evolution of the "best of" area. Any could contribute to any article and moderators could referee. As with wiki, the sheer mass of contributors would serve to keep it accurate. The benefit would be that any new or old searcher could quickly go to a link here and see the sum total of the latest research on any JW/WT-related issue. Properly organized we will have created our own web-based research library.
Suggestions for articles/chapters? I would like to see one on WT rules through the years. I know there have already been a number of threads on this subject, but wouldn’t it be nice to have just one, authoritative link to go to? When the elders last visited me, I mentioned the hundreds of rules the WT has imposed on it’s members through the years, and they acted as if my statement was ridiculous. I would have loved to be able to present them with a comprehensive list, complete with WT references, of at least a few hundred. But alas, I was unprepared. How about a wiki-style article on the WT/UN affair? Again, complete with references and web links to establish validity. The pedophile issue. Each "article" could contain subheadings for the secondary issues within each primary one, and any registered members could make their additions at any time, subject to overrule by the majority.
Such an arrangement would benefit, not only those of us who use this forum on a regular basis, but also any lurkers, seeking concrete evidence in an easily accessible and understandable form, regarding any and all of the WT’s deceptions, lies and manipulations over the years. This added feature to JWD would significantly increase it’s value, not only for us, but for those lurkers who are still in and considering their exit, but haven’t sufficient evidence yet to justify their conscience.

is the watch tower name going away?
i'm seeing more use of the "jehovah's witnesses" name where the watch tower name once was such as the sponsors of the summer conventions.
is this new, or am i just noticing it?
To clarify the trivia, a former Branch Overseer made me aware:
Watch Tower Bible & Tract Society of Pennsylvania
Watchtower Bible & Tract Society of New York
(PA Corp is WT in 2 words, NY Corp is WT in 1 word.)
It's so helpful the things one can learn from those who have gone far in Jehovah's organization!
