What was the average attendance. We had an attendance of around 1100. There was also another convention going on at the same time with an attendance of around 8000-10000. Danny

Questioning the Big Bang Theory
by Rod P inbut halton arp's continuing research will forever change the direction of astronomy.
or do our observations of nature show things that a theory says are impossible?
gamow had argued that the stars' temperatures are too low to create elements heavier than helium.

The post from definition-info.com, explaining the pro's and cons of the big bang seems to me a good article. Not to much biased, and explains the things very well.
i think this more or less sums it up.Have nothing to add...

Evanescence,
Just a honest question: Why are you so obsessed by the JW's, as you are not a ex-jw?

Jehovah's Witnesses as "a people......"
by ScoobySnax inwho out of all you nasty old apostates (tm) will agree with me, that if you take the gb that you dislike so much, and the watchtower that you hate out of the picture, will agree with me that at the end of the day, and on the whole, jw's really are a good bunch of people.
i did my same old rekky last sunday at the gillingham convention, and will have a good look around next sunday at twickenham convention.
i've been in lots of crowds, at stadiums and arenas, but an assembly is something else, it is somehow unique, its somehow different from any other crowds, there is a deep sense of "togetherness" i've not see any where else.

First of all what is Good or Bad, how do we define that?
second we ask here to judge the people (jw's) by a group that is mostly bad experiencs with them (ex-jw's). That is not really objective, and the replies to this question clearly shows how none objective it is. Just like asking JW's themselfs if they are good people.Being mislead does not count as bad in my opinion. The same as being into a large group following it does not count. Most of us are in some groups. Are all muslims bad? Are all catholics bad (both groups did a lot of bad).
Are all people from certai nations bad, only because their government does soem bad things? Then we all would be, there are not many good governments around. No, I dont agree that they are a good bunch of people, they may behave themselves while out at an assembly but this is all fake, they do it to give a good witness.
Behind closed doors they are a bunch of child beating, self righteous hypocrites not worthy of anyones respect.
Comments like this, are the greatest generalizations you'll hear. And it is just bull-shit.
The question was without the FDS, but without them there would be no JW's as the only thing separating them from others are their teachings with the resulted differences in behaviour. So, this makes the question not possible to answer.
The common theme in this thread is that they do not have unconditional love. That is true, they do not have. It does not mean that the love is not genuine or not real. If it exists at all, unconditional love is very rare.
The fact is more that their love is real, but the teachings of the FDS prevent them to show there love in some cases.
As with all groups, there are nice peolpe and not very nice people inside. It is just the same in the JW. People expecting then JW's to be more nice and all good will be disapointed.
Just to conclude, there is nothing special about them.Danny

Extinguishing evil and pain
by greendawn insupposing that you were in god's position how would you deal with the basic issue of good and evil in the world, how would you deal with that part of mankind that refuse to stop hurting and harming their fellow humans and how would you finally extinguish evil and suffering?.
remember some people accuse god of being too soft and tolerent with evil doers while others accuse him of being too harsh and merciless.
a delicate balance is called for.

He could do a lot without killing etc. Just by plainly showing himself and telling us what he wants, mankind would be much more willing to united and let small misunderstandings go. Just think about it how much difference it would make. Danny

The JW's came to his door and said that, a girl rang up and volenteered to be a Jehovah's Witness! also this girl (me) is the first this year to join their religion, and she's a girl from this area!!!
This is very unlikely.
If they would know your address, they would maybe visit you, and ask if you wnt to read something. You will get the same threadment as somebody who did accept something to read. They call it a return visit. If they do not know your address, they will not hunt you down. They would probably think, if you are interested, we will come to your door sooner or later.
They will definitely not say anything like that to somebody else, asking questions about somebody close by who ring them up.Your friend is probably trying to pull you a leg......

EX JW numbers

I think some of the people who run these different boards know each other. Couldn't they suggest a thread or something of people who wished to be counted as exjw? Maybe it wouldn't be 'scientific' but a rough estimate anyway. And People like me, should not respond, never being jw. (only Apostate at heart doesn't count) That wouldn't include the many who don't find a need for these boards. just a thought, carla
It is not very simple. Only a small pecentage of ex-jw's will visit boards like this. We know some of the statistics of people getting disfellowshipped, but a lot of them return. Some maybe do not return but still keep the faith.
But there are more people fading them getiing df-ed, so therefor it is hard to count any figures. To get some statistics you need random data. people comming here are not.
To get some idea about it you could make a list of all people in a few congregions ten years ago. Track what happened to those people. -

Why do people feel they need religion in their life ???
by run dont walk inafter growing up a jw all my life, i have no clue why people would want to be part of any religion.. i don't get the mormon stuff.
i don't understand the catholic faith.
i really don't understand the muslim beliefs and all their levels and the suicide bombers.

Why do people feel they need religion in their life ???
Do they? Maybe before discussing why, it would be good to establish first if they really do. When I talked with many of my collegae, schoolfriends etc, I came to the conclusion that they really did not need any religion. Most did not even need any spirituality. When growing up as a child of atheists parents, many of those have no any need fro it at all. They are happy without it.
So maybe, it is not really a born in thing, but a cultural thing. Or the inherited qualities that can lead to religion and did it in the past are so broad that it can be fulfilled in many things, some spiritual some not.

yes true convention.
The brothers use district assembley and district convention here both (in english). Convention however in publications. In my language they did not change it as far as I know. They changed the title of the CO. First it was 'circuit servant' to circuit overseeer. Danny
