I'm glad you found a measure of comfort.
Just keep in mind, JWs don't really care about you or your grandfather. Their interest is primarily to recruit you to join them (other interests may be "getting their time in, "getting a good experience they can relate at an assembly", and so on).
Your delicate emotional state makes you an especially inviting & vulnerable prospect. Tread cautiously.

Hmmmm wasn't about 2015 when the generation flip flopped
No, that was 2007.
It was described in detail in the 2/15/08 Watchtower (after being announced a few months earlier at the AGM in October 2007).
Wow, 12 full years with the same definition for "generation". We're probably overdue for "new light".

Double Standard of Proof
by neat blue dog inthere's a new article about john the baptist (not sure why they reverted to baptist instead of the modern english 'baptizer'), and it goes into several areas of his life followed by quotes from josephus showing that these specific things were historically documented.
the article is summarized by saying:.
the first-century historian josephus viewed john the baptist as a real person.

LOL.
Yep, that's their MO.
Same sort of thing where they say we can have full assurance that 539 BCE is the date that Cyrus defeated the Babylonians, due to astronomical measurements and contemporary historical accounts....
Which precisely identical astronomical data and contemporary historical accounts provide a date of 586 for Jerusalem's destruction, not 607.
The WTS - putting the MO in MORONS for 140 years.

I've noted this before....
There's been literally like 40 or 50 of these "I'm a non-JW dating a JW and I don't understand why he does XYZ..." threads this year.
Always it's the poster's 1st or 2nd post, after they joined a short time beforehand.
Either it's a run of incredible coincidences, or.....

The person who was DF'ed called the local Bethel to complain.
There must have been some colossal screw-up not only by the original judicial committee but also the appeal committee. The DFing does not apply, the DF'ed person remains a part of the congregation.
Somewhere out there, there are at least 6 elders who are getting a thorough reaming by the Co, as well as receiving nasty nasty letters from their local Bethel.

Comparing Memorial Outlines--2002-and-2020!

The Memorial outlines prior to 2002 were much different, I suspect.
Would be interesting to compare them from the 80s & 90s too.
I remember the Memorial outlines from when i was a little kid - lots of detail on the Jewish passover, and how it corresponded to Jesus' ransom.
I dunno, maybe I was just young & impressionable, but the old outlines (40+ years ago to qualify as "little kid" for me) seemed to make the occasion "holy", somehow. The latest ones are as dry & crumbly as the wafers they pass around.

Indeed, "normal" JWs from relatively wealthy countries are in general leaving, and being replaced, and slightly more than replaced, by thousands of new recruits from very poor countries.
Result?
The numbers look decent, but contributions continue to dry up, hence the near constant drumbeat to give more, give more, give more, along with branch closings, less literature than ever before, and congregation consolidations allowing for the sale of Kingdom Halls.

Interesting - 2015 was a really bad year, then things started improving.
Wasn't 2015 when they started JW Broadcasting?
For all the criticism it (rightfully) gets, it does seem to have at least contributed to the rebound.
Oh, and others have noted dozens if not hundreds of times on other threads - it is probably misleading to contrast "number baptized" vs. "publisher growth". There are many hundreds of thousands of "unbaptized publishers", and probably a significant portion of them never progress to baptism (mainly bored teenaged kids of JWs just counting the days until they can leave).
And even ignoring that, keep in mind that the "deficit" includes people leaving in any form - disfellowshipping, fading, and death.
