I think theres more training than just sending them to Iraq with a gun. Thing is, to be totally honest it will teach them respect first and foremostly. After that society is better off....

I guess the differentiator is the fact they are in University at all.
I would say they are simply copying the Chav look.... to put it another way- just because a football fan wears the team shirt, doesnt mean he plays for the team.

What's a Chav?
A chav primarily a british disease. Chav's are young people (I call them Rat-Children) who generally hang around on the street intimidating other pedestrians, eating chips (fries), swearing, wearing imitation designer clothes, shoplifting and acting like complete assholes.
They either listen to rap (especially the males) or weak-ass r'n'b (especially the girls).
If you were descibe their appearance it would be 'tacky'.
