  i am a born in, now ex jw.

  i now don't really believe in god which is kind of going from one extreme to another.

  i do miss the sense of community that i had as part of a congregation.

  That sense of community can be got elsewhere. For example I attend monthly humanist meetings, which are kind of cool. We discuss things like Sunday trading, faith-schools etc. We also find out about charitable organisations like the Samaritans and recently Quakerism- which was interesting.

  Its a community about living life without the burden of believing in an invisible friend and embracing the life you have.

  Why is it so hard for Ex-JWs to make that "final step" and give up Christianity?

  i'm not sure if it's just denial on a lot of people's part, but the reason the jws doctrine is so wacky and controlling is because they are among the few religions that really try to follow the bible!.

  the bible is the culprit here in actuality, but even after someone has "wizened up" to the misguided teachings of jehovah's witnesses they still hold the bible as inspired word of god.. why don't you believe that the governing body was chosen as the faithful and discreet slave in 1918?

  because the only real evidence to that fact is that they say so.

  @thetrueone great post, very very true. It also supports why 93% of National Academy of Sciences members are either agnostic or atheist.

  Define "Ex jw"?

  inspired from another current thread.

  i note some people are asking if they are allowed to participate in a questionaire for ex jw's if they are just fading or have not been df'd?.

  my own situation is this: tecnicaly i am a jw, baptised as a young tweeny and never reproved, df'd or da'd.

  I think that hits the nail on the head!!

  It's a good point though- in a more general way- while many are ex-jw's, do we actually 'define' ourselves as such? Do we actually define ourselves by something we are 'not'? Or do we ascribe to our existing belief system whether that be christian, pagan, atheist, agnostic, hindu, pastafarian etc?

  007 - YES! What was it about CO's and their 'funny' diets??

  Actually we used to have quite a good CO (well, as good as you can get)... he used to put his hand up and instead of giving some deep pearl-of-wisdom answer, he just used to sometimes say "Jehovah" and leave it at that.

  Who was your childhood hero or she-roe?

  ok boys and girls something light tonight.

  ive been talking to someone the other day who is studying psychology and she tells me you can tell a lot about a person based on who their childhood hero was.

  im not sure if i subscribe to the idea at all, kind of reminds me of horoscope or tarot archetypes but on the other hand, ive been thinking tonight, she might be onto something there at least partly.

  how in the world she pioneered for one year and commits fornication anyway while she was a regular pioneer?

  it mindboggles me sometimes.
