  Why is it so hard to have meaningful conversation at the Kingdom Hall?

  did any of you stuggle for have good conversations with the friends, before and after meetings?

  i know i did.. by meaningful conversations, i mean in-depth discussions about events, news, beliefs.

  it seems that jw's .

  There was a catch 22 situation in our hall. The younger ones were encouraged to talk to the older ones more. So being a bit of a congregational kiss-ass at the time I did. But the older ones were encouraged to speak to the younger ones about spiritual things.

  So, if I went up to Sister Gardener and asked her how her garden was getting on, instead of getting a

  "oh its lovely thank you, this time of the year everything is in bloom, I like to spend time in the garden its wonderful"....

  you'd get

  "Its nice thank you. I was reading an article on pollen in the Awake the other day that was fascinating! Isnt it wonderful how Jehovah provides these things for us? We can read about God's creation in Genesis..... blah blah blah....."

  You just couldnt have normal conversations with these people!

  She said I seem really bitter about my JW experience....

  i was talking to someone at my new job - she has known me for about 3 months and had something like 2 five minute conversations with me about the jws.. she said "you do come across as really bitter about it".. (note she is definately not a jw).. it was a real eye opener, because although i try and educate people about the truth of jws, i didn't think i was "bitter".. what about you?

  I think its right to be bitter to a certain extent at least. We all know what they do to people and how we were treated- its wrong.

  If someone broke into your car and pinched your stereo, you'd be bitter about them as well. Because they have 'done wrong to you too. This tho is much worse because they had our whole trust and devotion, and all the time they were lying and covering their tracks.

  I have mentioned to a few people that i was once a JW. I simply say that they may view JW's as a bit religiously eccentric, but theres more to it than that. I explain that there is a subtle brainwashing going on and really they are no different to any number of religious cults you hear about on the TV.

  Even if I never speak to that person again I have linked JW's with the words 'cult' and 'brainwashing'. I think its unlikely they will want to talk to them.

  I left a number of months after my marriage fell apart. The elders didnt want to help us, I think we didnt go to enough meetings, or do enough f/s for them to care. I met a wonderful girl (probably too soon after leaving my ex, but it was worth it) and thought 'this isnt going to go down well', so i promtly handed in a DA letter. I posted it thru the KH letter box. I felt a huge burden lift off my shoulders the moment i heard the letter box shut.......

  What stages of Healing/Recovery have you or are you going through?

  to elaborate...we are all at and have been at varying stages of the healing/recovery process...what stages have you experienced...how did you deal with it and what are your plans for the future now you are on this path.. db74

  Firstly I came to this site. I was cautious that it might be populated with evil apostates, foaming at the mouth, but I came here anyway. I found things not as I was warned by the dubs... so i realised other things might not be true either.

  Then I read more and more, picking up little snippets of info such as the UN thing, Mexico/Malawi etc. Then it was little things I read like 'would Jesus have shunned someone?' that made me think.

  I then read CoC and decided that I would never go back.

  At times I get a bit angry about being duped for so long and wanting to 'get back at them'. But I know this isnt the best way. Now I want to learn more and more, I want to learn the facts, so that Im more equipped in discussing things with JW's should I ever talk to them- Im thinkng the likes of my family that are still 'in'.

  o.k i confess: sometimes i still wish i was in high school where i was tucked away safely away from the real world.

  oh yeah, and i pick my nose sometimes.

  Has this board lost it's 'Pop' lately?

  anyone notice what i am saying.. is it a lack of posters at the moment?

  or has a social-evolutionary change begun here that is changing the board forever.. just seems like nothing is going on most of the time now.

  Hello, new to posting here!

  just wanted to pop in and say hi.. i'm from the uk and have made quite a few ex jw friends.

  we have met up a few times, and it's great to be with others who understand (my sense of humour lol!).

  i have been df for 14 years, and in the process became the black sheep of the family ( a familiar story).

  I am not alone!!!!!

  it took me a bit of reading through some posts to realize that this site is exactly what i have been looking for, for such a long time!!

  people to share my blown away realization i experienced after i quit going to the meetings and went against my mother!

  it feels great to see people who have gone through and felt the same as i and who have taken the steps to change their life.

  John Lennon's 65th Birthday 9th October

  he would have been 65 on monday.

  just wanted to say i think he is a absolute legend and that his music gets better the more you listen to it.

  i wonder what he would have achieved both politically and musically if he was still alive?
