I have worked with troubled teens for nearly twenty years and am gobsmacked that so many miss their fathers. Many men seem to crumble when relationships fail thinking they must divorce the children as well as their spouse. At first I thought it was gutless and weak but I now believe that many men don't understand what it is to be a real man, to hold firm for the little ones, to show them that they are loved and that they are the priority in their father's lives. So much pain for all involved. Yes, I divorced but loved and continue to love my children beyond life itself. And as far as my grand children....I am a lucky man!

Music therapy for pain .. scientists on board or anyone .. any thoughts?
by talesin ini am wondering if there is any research on this subject.. .
it's kind of obscure, i realize that.
playing my guitar takes me to a better place mentally, but does it produce oxytocin?

My story for what its worth is possibly the opposite of comments previous. I ruptured a disc while working out in a gym when I was in my 30's. This issue plagued me for 15yrs off and on. The pain at times was stunning, my only position to sleep in was the "down facing dog" from yoga. My mind was going along with my relationship, which led to deep depression. The Dr's I saw were dinosaurs as far as pain relief, so surgery was really my only longterm option. Finally I went to a Dr who said that I need to dance. I laughed him off and never went back. And yes I tried every possible alternative treatment. Some worked to a degree. Cutting the story short, I did discover dance and it was a revelation. I would become totally absorbed by loud dance music and I believe that the body gets into a rythym which the brain and heart find soothing. Pain disappeared and in a number of months I could touch my toes, in fact, put the palms of my hands on the ground while standing (I still can at 56 and yes I still dance). The euphoria of dancing for hours on end would put me in a trance state where pain and any current negative issues were lost. I now understand that the Dr was trying to tell me that many men carry stress in their pelvis/lower back( number one chronic male pain in this country), so that is why dancing encourages a subconscious letting go.
Worked for me...

I think her subtle use of shading is very tasteful...I'm just trying to figure out what that taste is!

Fear of Dying
by snare&racket ini was thinking about how to explain to a family member how i have no fear or issue with not living in a paradise earth etc.
they dont believe i left the jws for good reason, they think like every jw that i must be bitter about the religion or something.. .
i am an atheist and for many reasons i dont fear death, but i was trying to think of a way to explain it from a jw perspective when it hit me...... it doesnt matter.. option a: do t believe in god and believe that i will die and there will be eternal nothingness.

For me it is the realisation that at death I will be utterly alone that fills me with fear, dread but also an inquisitiveness. Saying my last words to my darling daughter and son and their families will be the most painful goodbye.... Considering a "paradise" filled with self righteous slaves to a demon god will not be a priority...

Hare Krishnas? I Know This Site Is For JW But . . .
by InterestedOne ini have learned a lot about cults on this site and cannot thank you all enough for helping me get a sense of what is going on with my jw acquaintance.
as it turns out, another friend of mine told me she goes to the hare krishna temple.
she is a wonderful person, and we have been spending time together having long conversations.

As I recall, there was a major rift years ago as the leader was having gay sex with the elite which he surrounded himself. This is of course in direct opposition to what is told to the followers. In fact they are told that sex is only to procreate and not to be enjoyed. They cannot eat spicey food as this (in their eyes) stirs the animal nature for sex.... Once sexual energy is pushed under like this, it will find a way to express itself and sadly children become the victims. I have a work friend who was heavily involved for years and she left due to the hiding of pedos etc. As a youth support worker, I have assisted abused children from a "Krishna farm" not too far from where I live. Ask 'em about that!
There's your link to Jw's. The masters at hiding abuse.

Anyone else have a Nexus 7 tablet?
by moshe ini received my nexus 7 tablet a week ago and have really been using it a lot.
i am still figuring what apps i need, like a file manager app.
one feature that is much appreciated is using voice navigation on google seaches with the native chrome browser- my wife and i were trying to find hotel information about a vacation site- and before she could finish typing her search query, my nexus 7 tablet had the information.
