Are you "star-struck" by famous people?

i have had several encounters in my life with "famous" people.

one time, when i managed a movie theatre, ron howard came into the theatre with his family and sister's family.

it was a little time before the show and people in the lobby were bothering him, so we took him to the projection booth to wait and he was actually a nice guy.

Met Robert Plant from Led Zepplen a few years ago. He wanted to chat, I thought I was talking to god. Embarrasing I know.

Same with Madonna. She was exercising on Main beach in Byron Bay but I was too out of it to front her.

Hey, it was New Years Day. Been up all night. My friends thought I was hallucinating but the local newspaper confirmed her visit. She flew out with John Travolta (in a private jet, he was the pilot) for a bash with the makers of Crocodil Dundee, that movie from the eighties.

Didn't know the man but I've shed a few tears over him.

I guess I forget that we are real people on this site with real problems going on in our lives, not just clever names with interesting avatars.

Maybe I relate in some way. Similar age. Moved to start new life( lives). Missing my kids as they live a long way away and are moving on into adulthood and their own journeys.

Don't know what's the connection but all I know is we need to build love for ourselves and when that love is overflowing, give the excess freely and unconditionally to others.

leaving the organization, it is like packing for a journey you can choose what you take with you, and what you leave behind (other than people).

there are things i chose to take with me.

for example, i have used the sales training to my advantage over the years.

I agree with an earlier poster that love stories leave me yawning. As for a love story about two farm boys.....

Can't Hollywood think of something a little more interesting?

Imagine the writers meeting to discuss a new script.

"I reckon we need to write a story about two gay cowboys."

2nd writer. "Yeah good idea. It will get the fundys jumping. Great publicity"

1st writer "The actors have to be straight though!!! "

2nd writer " Of course, no gay actor would touch this rubbish anyhow"

JWs, why God's organisation and not His church?

the jws call themselves an organisation and not a church except perhaps very rarely.

but is there something untoward hiding behind this choice?

to me it is objectionable because it ties in with the fds concept as god's sole channel on earth serving his supposed people.

I reckon it's a perfect description because they model themselves on business not spirituality.

Actually had a p.o. say to me, successful in business, good ms and elder.

Whose been ripped off financially by his JW brother?

i posted this in another thread but it is more relevant here.

i worked for jw doing back breaking work for a while only to be told by another jw that he was ripping me of - he was paying me half the going rate.

i was only 17 and naive didn't know anything about the world of work.

I was caught a few times when I was young and innocent, thinking it was the truth.

One of the most depressing was my own brother(jw), while visiting my non jw sister and her husband on their large property, decided to let his 10yr old daughter drive the quad bike with him on the back.

Of course they crashed into a fence and my bro in law rushed them to the nearest hospital. They are a lovely country couple who did everything to make the family comfortable while bro was in hospital (minor injuries, broken nose and abrasions).

They were repaid by this low life with a law suit. They were beside themselves with grief but had plenty of assets to get high profile legal advice.

He got zip.

Dark Uncle summed it up well. It's not a game. I usually tell people it's like the first Matrix film. Make sure you fully understand the consequences of your actions. My personal experience has been the most illuminating life changing but also the most terrifying. Ever read the Tibetan Book of the Dead?

I would never want to "go back" to my old life/self but man some times in the last few years I truly thought I had lost it.

As others have noted this journey is more of a self exploration but there are benign forces we are able to attract, no doubt.

That's why I enjoy reading Carl Jung. He went there himself and emerged a completely different individual. All in the early 20th century!!!

While I do lean toward Tetra as far as boards go, I do believe there is a door of perception (sorry Huxley) that can be opened.

That is why the use of drugs go hand in hand with the spirit world(drugs aren't necessary but are a key). Once these doors are open they can never be closed.

It is not as obvious as pointers moving on boards.

As an example. Tetra would you go back to being a jw? No? A door of understanding has been opened. You can't close it. Jws would say you are crazy but now you know......

I too believe in caution in affairs of the spirit. Be careful what you desire.

Had a few unexplained experiences. The strangest was in the jungles of Sumatra with a wise woman.

Long story but basically she turned into an old woman right before my eyes. I asked for the ceremoney more for the historical interest as she is the last of the shamans (christianity wiped them out...lutherans. Not a bad thing though as head hunting was a popular past time).

She correctly explained where I lived while possessed by the "old people", plus other details but what struck me was on returning the next day, the first thing she asked (via a translater) was what did I dream? Yes I had a most vivid dream of hundreds of old people one by one coming forward and welcoming me with a smile and nod.

I knew little of shamanic practice at the time and subsequent reading has helped me understand the depth and meaning of other statements made by her.
