My father very rarely spoke of his youth but once he mentioned that he could vaguely remember being a very young child riding in a stage coach!!

I am a Living Time Machine
by TerryWalstrom inwhich world is this?_________________when the doctor pulled my screaming body out of mom all those 7 decades ago, i landed in a post-wwii world.it was--compared to today's world--an alien planet.. the world i live in today has nothing in common with the world in which i grew up.. there were no cell phones back then--there were black telephones with a dial-tone and an operator who placed your call.
everywhere you found telephone booths!
a call was a nickle.where did all those telephone booths go?i dunno.where did my whole world go?i dunno.. tv sets were huge boxes with tubes and small screens.

by darkspilver instrathpine kingdom hall - 1986 to 2016 - celebrating it's 30th anniversary!.
two days in may: the strathpine kingdom hall was one of the very first 'quick builds' to take place in australia.. now this newly released original 1986 archival footage - with voice-over narration, commentary and interviews with those involved - takes an in depth look of those two days in may..... note: in the thirty years since this kh was built, the jws in australia have seen a 5.8% increase in real terms.

Were Conventions, Asemblies and the Memorials boring to you?
by HereIgo inconventions always just seemed like more of a vacation to me than anything else, especially if you had to travel out of town for it, but definitely were exhausting especially toward the end of each day.
for some reason i didn't mind the special and circuit assemblies too much, probably because they seemed like more of a social event than anything else and only 1-2 days.
the memorial always was kind of boring to me.

I found "conventions" mind numbingly and stunningly boring for 20 yrs. What was I doing intellectually?
Asleep to avoid personal responsibility for changing my life, that's what....

Trolley cart "witnessing" is getting ridiculous
by oppostate ini really fail to see how much actual "witnessing" is occurring with the trolley carts.publishers, usually pioneers, just stand or sit there not engaging anyone and count their time.. the only thing i notice that it's accomplishing is brand exposure for jw.0rg so the public is exposed to the logo and literature/poster card headlines.. take for example this "evening" witnessing by a pioneer elder while on summer holiday/vacation.. .
is this not a wth kinda moment when you consider the years of slaving, knocking on doors, business territory and bible studies we had to keep performing so we weren't branded a "weak" publisher?.

This surely must signal the winding down of jws preaching door to door etc.
I said many yrs ago that the jws will go mainstream religion if they are to survive and so far they are right on track to prove me correct.

him: "yes, we don't him to turn out out gay, we want him to have a happy marriage filled with hours and hours of reading propaganda together.

My two cents
Reading your words I see that you are fixed on the future and the what ifs...
Yes we all die. No one has been an exception to that rule.
Yes we will be forgotten in the future. That's a definite.
Ironically you are presently living in that future state, dead and forgotten.
Isn't that such a waste of this precious gift of life?
Look at the odds of you being born and especially in good health and in a country where you have so many opportunities.
My opinion is for you not to try to change this situation at all but rather stare deep into it and see what answers come up. Some on this journey choose to kill themselves and I can understand that but hey they will never see what tomorrow brings.
When we face our darkest fears we can become liberated from the past.
Please be attentive to now as that's all we have.

Salvation Army vs Jehovah's Witnesses
by doofdaddy ini was just listening to a documentary while driving.
it was about the salvation army past and present.
what caught my attention was the similarities between the s.a. and the jws.... firstly was the music and how they stubbornly shunned popular and ever changing musical trends by writing and playing their own exclusive hymns for over a century.this made the church inward looking and ignorant to social change which inevitably led to losing touch with the wider world.. initially they preached but as times moved on they relied on growth via families and keeping the family separate from the world.

Firstly was the music and how they stubbornly shunned popular and ever changing musical trends by writing and playing their own exclusive hymns for over a century. This made the church inward looking and ignorant to social change which inevitably led to losing touch with the wider world.
Initially they preached but as times moved on they relied on growth via families and keeping the family separate from the world.
A sociologist who was interviewed said that new churches (cults if you like) when they first form, make extreme rules and regulations in an attempt to separate themselves from the traditional Christian religions, to set themselves apart. But as time goes on these rules are eased and church goes into the religious phase where they steer towards the main stream.
The final comments were basically saying the S.A. are in crisis trying to be relevant in this ever changing world.
There was much more but I was concentrating on driving!
Anyone else noticed the similarities?

Suffering and existence of God
by elbib inmany people find it difficult to reconcile suffering and existence of god.
it seems they feel that it is god’s obligation to shield humans from ill-effects of their short-sighted acts..
people’s hobby has something to do with this kind of reasoning!

Ha they're baaack!!
BK's as noted by Cofty were supposed to stop preaching on this site. They are "hoist by their own petard"
There is no point interacting with them unless you enjoy frustration
