  I trust my intuition. If I was to "work at" giving someone the benefit of the doubt then I would be going against my inner voice, which I try not to do.

  i never saw anyone else work with him.. did you know of elders like this?.

  Anyone ever get panicky when they 1st started missing a lot of meetings?

  dh and i have been missing a lot of meetings.

  this i might add is of his initiation, not mine.

  anyways, yesturday we missed the sunday meeting.

  Oh my gosh, like you would not believe. I would sit at home trying to distract myself with tv until the time when the meeting was due to be over, then i'd feel anxious that someone would call me or (god forbid) stop by and I'd have to come up with a quick excuse. I cannot tell you how good it feels not to have to go through that anymore. Of course, that was when I thought it was the Truth.

  I may have an opportunity to discuss why I no longer attend meetings with an old friend that I ran into the other day. She is very zealous - a pioneer for many years. I've printed some newspaper articles that refer to the child abuse scandal. She has a daughter so I think that this might touch her.

  The other thing that might get her thinking are some of the major JW teachings/beliefs that cannot be supported by JUST the bible.

  Can anyone think of some good ones that I could use?

  phobias, certainly, are created by an anger/aggression response in a particular zone in our brain.

  it triggers powerful hormone production such as adrenaline, to get us ready for fight-or-flight.

  Wow, great post. Nicely said. Off the top of my head I can remember riding in the car with a witness family when I was around 12 (I too, was raised a JW) and using the word "lucky". A huge taboo akin to a non JW saying f*ck or something. I was so ashamed. I guess that sums up my entire JW experience - SHAME. Shameful thoughts, desires....it's basically never ending. It's really freeing to not feel shame anymore.

  Ran into the JW table at San Diego airport...

  yes, my ladyfriend and i were entering the san diego airport for our flight home to phoenix late yesterday afternoon, when i noticed a forty-ish man and woman sitting down behind a table loaded with wts publications.

  i stopped to glance over them with joy.

  i made familiar comments about some of the publications, noting the newer soft covers and trying to casually engage the pair in conversation.

  I work in a downtown area and often see JWs doing street work. It consists of sitting on park benches with the mags in their hands talking to each other. Sad and funny all at the same time.
