YEAH! That's what I actually thought. I had trouble concentrating on the rest of the original post because I kept asking myself what in the name of heck "adultery in the hearth" can be!? Jeez, the reasons to get DF are really getting strange.

Getting married....any advise?
by Uni girl ini'm getting married in a few weeks to the man that was disfellowshipped with me for 'committing adultery in our hearts".
we have been together for 5 years and have a wonderful and warm relationship, no fear or guilt.
the only blimp on the horizon is his family, some of whom are maniacs when it comes to the letter of the law.

Sending letters to all JWs I know.....
by Lilycurly inafter thinking a lot about it, i just felt i had to at least try something to make the local jws open their eyes.
i know it is most unlikely that any of them will even consider reading all of what i will send, but here's the plan:.
i've got a list of all their addresses (that i kept from before).

Wow! Thanks for all the ideas! I've been looking for that UN letter and now I've printed it. My JW father who is so certain of the Watchtower's faithfulness will be shocked...or just go blind and ignore it. Have any of you got any negating answers when they showed this letter to a JW?

when you were babtized and dedicated did you feel a void?
by swiftbreeze inthis has always troubled me:.
i was studying to be babtized although i was raised around the "truth" i still had to have an official study.
so i was taught that i had to go to jehovah in prayer stating my desire to be dedicated and babtized.

I remember having tears in my eyes when I got asked the questions.(And these were not tears of joy) I was very intimidated by the elders, even though they were quite nice.
And when the "Big Day" came I felt sick to my stomach and barely heard what was said during to talk. I was shaking and feeling very unwell, i'm sure I must have been very pale. I was telling myself it was normal...but now I see it wasn't, at all.

of the mouth of babes
by Crumpet ini don;t know what made me think of this as its a memory i haven;t retrieved in 17 years at least but it made me chuckle and it was a favourite story of my parents!.
when i was 6 and my little sister was 3 we were at a thursday night meeting, when she began to whispher to my mum " i want a smack".
my mother thought she had misheard and looked away but no lil sis said it a bit louder tugging at her arm, "mummy i want a smack.

I was always disturbed by the number of kids getting smacked because they are expected to sit straight for hours...tsk.
As for my personal story...I remember when me or my sister used to talk together before the meetings, we were quite small. And sometimes we would start to talk about demons and Satan, and for some reason, the word Satan made us laugh. My dad seemed horrified that people would hear us, and told us not to say that names for nothing...he did the same with jesus and jehovah.

Just shows that the borg could make anything appear like pure logic to it's followers just by using the right words and turn of phrase...sad. I'm sure they could even "prove" that we shouldn't keep cats as pet or something.

I've got a list of all their addresses (that I kept from before). So I want to send an anonymous letter to each household, a very short one, with eye-catching sentences and questions that forces to pose and think. I will provide email links for good anti-JW sites that are not "threatening". And some titles to read, like "Crisis of Conscience". Now all I need is ideas as to what exactly to include...they're are so many things, but kind of long to explain...any suggestions?
I know I would not be one to go picket at assemblies, but I'm very determined to put time and money into this, if it can help even one person.

A jw snopes type web site?
by Check_Your_Premises inany who have checked out snopes.com, know that it is a very effective baloney detection device.
it is amazing how many phoney stories end up coming some so many credible sources.
for the dubs, the urban legend serves an important function of protecting and bolstering their faith.

Funny....I remember hearing the one about AIDS at an assembly....but this version was about a young man sleeping with a random girl and he woke up with "Welcome to the AIDS club" written in red lipstick on his mirror.:P So that one has at least two versions...

by Daunt inthis is an email my sister receieved (i know im bad but she just left it running here how can you expect me not to) talking about the "dating scene" of jw youth, specifically girls.

I don't know where I would have fit in those groups...no "loner sister" there...I was taking notes and listening..but really didn't have any goals...well, spiritual goals, that is. I might have been a Shulamite chick without the goals...maybe that's why I never got approached.lol

If You See A JW or An Elder, Do You Try To Avoid Them?
by minimus inwhen i was in a drugstore a couple of months ago, i saw the presiding overseer in the other aisle with his wife.
i saw them and made a conscious decision to leave.
what would you have done in a similar situation??

Hello! I'm new here, decided to make my first post in this thread.:P I just had to share how I deal with JW when I see them around. When I first left I was very nervous when I saw one at the store or on the street...my first reaction was to run, just like the original poster did. I really didn't want to get into a conversation.
Now it's been a few months, I don't run anymore, but I don't talk to them either, I just pretend not to see them while making sure they spot me. I put a great big smile radiant smile on my face while I look at stuff, so that they realise that even though I'm not part of them anymore, I'm not the sad, revolted person they make every young ex-JW to be. (Because that's always what's gossiped around..) Oh, and if I'm lucky, I might be wearing a pentacle pendant or my tattoo might be showing...lol...sure to make an impression amongst them!
