Hmm...that made me think...How fun it would be to DA myself...much more intersting then just fading out like I did. At least some of them will know my reasons....Is it possible to just write a letter or is there a need for a comitee or something?

Answering Techniques
by PopeOfEruke inwhat was your technique for answering at the wt study?.
were you one of the types who waited, sweating silently, till the last or second-last paragraph, then finally put your hand up and hope like crazy they picked someone else?
remember the dry throat??

Never understood either. To me it was only a nuissance to my peaceful day-dreaming. But the brother on stage would always make a great deal before each studie about how important answering was and that he was especially watching young people's hands.
After the meeting, one of them even came to teenagers who hadn't answered to tell them he hadn't seen their hands raised today...and all with a big smile on his face.

NO! Not at all!lol This picture is pretty recent. And I expect I would have been reproved if I had dared to wear a *gasp* yellow bikini.lol
I didn't want any picture to be taken then, just to amuse the rest of you...it was a navy blue bathing suit that went up to there, with a little skirty thing attached...ya know, the kind worn by grandmas all over the world.lol

From the mouths of kids....
by Lilycurly inconversation between my little 10 years old brother and my dub-dad before he departs for the meeting:.
little bro: daddy...why do you have to go to kingdom hall?.
dub-dad: well, because jehovah wants us too.

Well yes, lol, and I try to encourage that line of thinking he's got. Critical is good, most of the time. At least he is questioning what he's been tought, not gobbling it all up with his eyes closed.;P

No, I love my dad, I would never do to my family what the JWs do to us who don't share their beleives. (Not including you dedf, you seem quite open-minded) I am just renting on this board, because I have been frustrated all my life and now I see my other brother getting sucked into that religion. I hope for all the world that my father would open his eyes just a little bit, but I would never dislike him, even if he never does.

Hehe, I make sure to congratulate him afterwards when he pulls one like that.;P The thing is, I'm sure his comments are not so innocent. I sometimes catch him listening to my mother and I talk about anti-JW stuff. He loves it.:P After listening on us once, he asked my dad if the waters from the flood were salty or not. Dad-Dub's mouth hung open for a while...but then he got out that classic one that "Jehovah took care of it". He promised he would do some research, but he never came back to him.lol

I hated answering. But I knew I always had to at least make one comment because halfway through the study, my father would look at me and say "You don't answer today?" (I was 18!!!) And I was guilt-triped into raising my hand. But usually, I tried to make one at the begining, so it was over. And some other times I made my one answer happen when a cute brother was passing the mike.;P

A sister spoke to me at breakfast...
by AK - Jeff ini was eating a sinful double order of biscuits/gravy when this sister i knew came up to my table.
as is usual with witness mentality, not a single word about the family or any other matter, just launched into "hubby and i were out by your house in service, stopped by but no one was home" then she tactlessly mentioned that she had not seen us around the hall for a while.
i told her we were not attending meetings any longer.

I remember refusing to pray in public. I just told my dad I would pray silently, no need to close my eyes. When all the family was in, he used to insist that we all gather around in restaurants and he did that whispered little prayer that was really embarassing. Even now, he told us recently, that he went to an upscale restaurant, and when his plate arrived, he bent his head and closed his eyes to pray. Then the waitress came over to see if anything was wrong!lol I couldn't stop laughing. I was so happy not to have been there. And he thought he gave a good witness too...what he doesn't realise is that they look like total nutcases.

Conversation between my little 10 years old brother and my Dub-Dad before he departs for the meeting:
Little Bro: Daddy...why do you have to go to Kingdom Hall?
Dub-Dad: Well, because Jehovah wants us too. It makes him happy.
Little Bro: How do we know that Jehovah is real?
Dub-Dad: We just have faith, son. We beleive.
Little-Bro (realising): Oh! It's like Santa Clause, then?!
Me: *spit coffee all over the place*
I love the little guy, he's a smart-ass!lol

Kingdom Melodies - Can they influence people's moods?
by truthseeker ini've recently begun to observe the mood-altering abilities of kingdom melodies, when played at meetings and assemblies.
after hyping up the audience for hours at a convention, a melody like, "we thank you jehovah" has the ability to make everyone all fuzzy and happy.
some even have tears in their eyes.. before a meeting, a kingdom melody is usually played quietly in the background, but it sets the mood.

Ugh! I know my dad, for one, seems to adore those songs. I never liked them, always thought they sounded completly outdated. Wondered why they didn't make up new ones. But I started to especially dislike them when I started to think on my own. Dad would play them in the car, at home, he even got all the CDs, and the ones sung by people (wich gets him misty-eyed!) It just made me want to jump out of the moving car when he would put it on. That's when I learned to go to my happy place and block it out. I never want to hear one of those again!
