I was eating a sinful double order of biscuits/gravy when this sister I knew came up to my table. As is usual with witness mentality, not a single word about the family or any other matter, just launched into "Hubby and I were out by your house in service, stopped by but no one was home" Then she tactlessly mentioned that she had not seen us around the hall for a while. I told her we were not attending meetings any longer. She then made the typical witness assumptions and said " I also was depressed for a long time due to the things my kids did, but then I decided why should I lose my life too, so I got busy serving Jehovah"
I replied after that comment " Well, we no longer consider that the Kingdom Hall is of any concern to Jehovah. Jesus stated that "by this all will know you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves", and since we had been treated like sh** , Jesus must not be interested in Jehovah's witnesses." She made some comment about it being a local issue, and I retired that immediately as incorrect. [somehow this must be the only witness in the congregation that does not know we are on the 'full shunning' list here]
She then sat down about 10 feet away, clearly disturbed that I would suggest that Jw's were not God's sole people. She proceeded to pray over her food - loudly enough that all in the area could hear her.
One older gent that I know by sight but not personally, having heard part of the conversation, and assuming I the better Christian, got up and came over and asked me a Bible question about what he was reading in his 'Daily Bread' pamphlet. Something to do with Joseph [early Isrealite] and Joseph [Jesus' father] - He had the two confused. I was answering him quietly when I notice this sister gets up, takes her food and exits quickly from the place. She had not eaten a bite, though she had laid it all out on the table. She was clearly angered and confused that this guy would confuse me with Christianity when I had just told her that I had denied Jehovah, or specifically Jehovah's witnesses.
Interesting moment in time...
