Aprocrypha and JWs

i made a search but didn't come up with anything specific about what are the views of jws concerning the apocryphal bible books.. from what i know, some man a long time ago (catholic or pagan, but certainly not a jehovah's witness) decided wich books were inspired and wich to dump, and then proceeded to assemble the bible as we know it today.. now i don't want to start a fight about wether or not they would be inspired....but how do the jws explain that they accept this choice made by this particular man (or group??

) do they admit tha the man was inspired?

if they do, then they'd have to admit that god gives his blessing to other religions, and if not, they are missing some books and serious information..... what would my father tell me, if i asked him?

Nightmares?

i don't know if anyone else has this problem or if i'm just crazy.

i have been attempting to fade.

my family recently moved to a new area and we have never attended the kh here.

It goes away....

At first, I dreamt constantly that I was at the KH, listening to talks and just asking myself "Why I am here!? No, I'm not supposed to be here!" Or even worse, I was out in service and wasn't ready at all, and I knew I didn't beleive anything they wanted me to say. It feels horrible. I assumed it was just my brain that was so accustomed to those activities, and it just needed to fit them in for awhile.

Now it's less and less frequent, but just yesterday, I dreamt I was at some kind of JW convention, and there was a paper to fill about Harry Potter knowledge, lol, of all things. We had to write what congo we were in, and I looked at my dad, because we both knew that I hadn't attend a meeting in two years. That was strange.

JWs and the calendar

i was in italy over new year's eve week and i visited the vatican.

on the tour, the guide pointed out a monument to pope gregory, who invented the gregorian calendar which we use today.

that made me think: jws are so hell-bent on avoiding anything non-biblical, yet they are ok with using the gregorian calendar, which was invented by, *gasp*, a catholic pope.

Their comments and our answers are also very useful to lurkers, they can experiment JW logic first hand....Also, it's quite entertaining, you have to admit.

Awake! Less Emphasis on the Bible!

i picked up the march copy of the awake!

magzine, looking to find more "emphasis on the bible.

to tell you the truth, there is absolutely nothing of the kind!

That's exactly what they are trying to do...lol, ever noticed how every year around Christmas it's all about "Where does the christmas celebration really come from?" "Who was really Jesus?" "Does the holidays give you satisfaction?", and then when it's near Easter time "Do you know the real Jesus? (again)" and now it's about love just in time for valentine's day.

I guess they think that people at the doors will be more inclined to take the mags using that technique...

And it doesn't really work, I still got that vivid memory of me presenting an Awake magazine called (Yes!) "Who was really Jesus?" And the women just looked at me, then the mag and said "Yes, I know who he was and I don't need other people to tell me." SLAM! Back then I was kind of pissed, but now I think....well, good for her!:)

Slippers / shoes at book studies

hi everyone!

was there ever an issue as to whether you were / weren't allowed to wear shoes at a group book study in someones house , so everyone had to dump their shoes at the door?.

Two words....Spandex Slipper. And in flashy/neon colors most of the time. At least everyone had to wear them. After a few studies I got the brilliant idea to bring my own though, you know those nice ballet-shoes-like ones, in black.

bob and sue meet....bob says he loves sue and wants to marry her...sue's lawyer's step in and give bob a list of things that he has to do to show how much he loves sue:

1. you must go on 5 dates a week with her.

they will be predesigned and you will only be allowed to stay within the structure of those predesigned dates.

2---I work at a daycare and I love working with children....but it's some of the parents that really make me pissed sometimes.

Witnessing Fun?

what did you used to do out witnessing to make it a little more fun that it really was?.

my best friend misspeaches and i were regularly partnered up to go door knocking.

I liked to work with elderly ladies or kids...because when we would have a not-at-home territory to do, I would take care of the paper and mark a lot of them as not at homes again, lol, of course, we had to knock at a few houses or they would have suspected something, so I was careful to go to the ones that were obviously really not home. On top of that, they walked very slowly, so we really didn't do that much.

When I was with other people, I would comment on how pretty the houses were, or flowers, anything...talk about anything to keep us walking slowly.

awake helps to educate people...

regardless of my last topic on non-information (non spititual information) i have to see this:.

in my experience this is actually true, the awake helps people to get some general knowledge.

especially jw''s in developing countries seem to have a bit more of general information because of reading the awake then others do.. can you agree on this one?.

As a kid, I used to like (read hate less) to read the informative articles about animals, other countries and stuff like that. But as soon as it started to drift to the "push the religion" part I would stop, it was always the same anyway. As I got older, I found the articles less and less interesting...(but I was in college then, lol, guess I had other sources of info.)
