*sigh* this is one of things an elder pulled out of his *** when I alked him how shunning could be considered christian love.
All I could answer at the moment was "But it's complete non-sense!!!" in a completly exasperated and discouraged tone.
.
what is that scripture?.
what is your response to the claim that the truth would divide families?.

just wondered as im prob about to give up so much, coz i dont think it is the truth but its come as such a shock!.
my family believe it so much, my dad feels he can answer any question i have, and being brought up in it sometimes it scares me.
coz my family believe it so much, .
Hi Cordy!
Have you read "Crisis of Conscience"? I found it very helpful when I still had some doubts.
Also the fact that an overseer's response to a question about shunning was "You shouldn't spend so much time thinking about details."
after reading the tragedy of puternut, i was thinking that perhaps it's time that the government took another look at what can happen when they allow religions like the jws, to cut off family members without a second thought.
surely someone's rights to have normal religions with their family should come before freedom of religion.
isn't it ironic that the gb fought so hard in court to obtain freedom of religion, yet their own members commit suicide when they try to express this very right.
My father didn't want to shun me....he tried every loop-hole. But it seems like he is too scared to disobey the WT thus loosing the carrot...uh, I mean earthly paradise.
who was he really talking to, i know jws believe it was jesus but it has puzzled me my whole life because i believed jesus had to have had a mother.
if he is saying let us make mankind in our image he then created two different beings a man and a woman, where does the image of the woman come from, how, why and from whose image are woman from, her body shape, voice sounding softer, and so on?.
sure i understand the whole rib thing but it goes to reason that there had to be some other being besides jesus he was speaking to, other wise mans companion would have naturally been another man, because the image of jesus is a man and the image of god is also manly.
I read this morning that the "made from a rib" part was simply mistranslate and that in fact it was supposed to be "made from one side" of the man. The entity called "man" was separated to be the "man" kind and the "women" kind...It's all kind of confusing, but I beleive that there must be a female side to God too, females didn't just appear from nowhere. Then there's the whole thing about Sophia...
and here i am, enjoying the fellowship of brothers and sisters.
i could never wear my invader zim slippers to the kingdom hall, or enjoy coffee while i take in my, um... "nourishment"?
it's not all fun and games...i have three classes online and i need to post some assignments.
Hehe, strangely, when the meeting was at 10AM on a Sunday, I always had a hard time to wake up. But now, I'm most of the time up and kicking before 8AM.:P Guess motivation has something to do with it.

Hmmm. My dad decided on saturday that he would shun me. He's been making researches for a long time...and finally did it. I don't think there's enough happening right now to start a new thread about it...but just to say that many people on here would like it to become illegal.
.
i grew a goatee and thats my sign to them, that i'm rebellious... .
.
I guess growing a goatee and shaving hair would have been the evident solution...but being a woman is problematic.lol
1.Wear skirts that "aren`t appropriate"
2.Wear jewellery of pagan origins
3.Make sure to wear pants if I go for a walk on a Saturday morning (wouldn`t want someone to think I`m going door to door.)
4. No more pantyhoose!!
some people's avatars make me smile, others make me think.
there are some that i just love to look at.
here are some of my favorites off the top of my head.

Sick Chick...this guy is such a nutter it's funny.
i've just finished reading the book...and i know most of it is fiction, but some of you might have read it too.
as an ex-jw, it really made me think...the author has an excellent way to make one think outside the box without making it look like he wants to ram his ideas into your head...you know, it's kind of subtle, amongst all the action and enigmas.
my father loves to read...i really want him to read that book.
But it's an emotional book....and my father is easily moved by emotions...
