  ..I guess once again the WT publishes rules that are supposed to be "true for thee, but not for me".

  Because when I bought my house, that meant I was the previous owner’s boss. Except for the fact that it’s not actually the same thing at all. The 1964 article actually said it would be wrong “to accept a job in the direct employ of such a religious organization”.

  Is it hypocritical to sell a Kingdom Hall to another religious group? Maybe. Is it what the 1964 Watchtower was referring to? No.

  The ‘announcement’ that JWs could preach by writing letters came out in September at the beginning of the ‘2021 Service Year’, so those figures weren’t included in the stats for 2020. So don’t be surprised if the 2021 report actually indicates an ‘increase’ of around 3%, which would only indicate their typical low growth since their pre-2020 figures because JW statistics are geared toward inflating growth rates.

  Jeff- Interesting passages for an adulterous wife. Clearly she bears more guilt than the adulterous husband. I do not consider those passages as an indicator that abortion is ok. It is like when Jesus said not to divorce and was rebutted with 'Moses said we could.' Jesus replied that it was because of 'your hardness of heart'.

  The superstitious ritual for determining ‘guilt’ relies on ‘God doing a magic thing’ (though back in reality, whether the woman miscarries would have nothing to do with whether she’s ‘guilty’), so it can’t just be explained away as merely ‘Moses said we could’.

  No. But I do tend to avoid (but not anything like a ‘boycott’) companies that have their ads interrupting what I’m watching on YouTube or that deliver physical or electronic unsolicited marketing.

  People howling at the wind that they’re going to ‘boycott’ some global company because of xyz don’t seem to realise that the companies have usually already done the math.
