  No: I am very familiar with Stern and I copied and pasted that quote quite deliberately in anticipation of your reply. So, what we now have two quotes from Stern that appear to be contradictory which is simply part of the ongoing debate between archaeologists regarding the subject 'the Myth of the Empty Land' so the problem is with Stern not with WT scholars so better to stick to what God's Word says about the state of Judah during the Exile, Don't you think?

  This is seriously the level of delusion and dishonesty we're dealing with...

  • Thinks it is a contradiction that Stern says the towns that were destroyed were not resettled but that some other towns weren't destroyed and remained populated
  • Claims that 'Babylon will be called to account after 70 years' (Jeremiah 25:12) and 'attention will be given to return from exile after 70 years' (Jeremiah 29:10) really means 'Babylon is called to account, then Jews return from exile two years later, then 70 years ends'

  Unfortunately, 'scholar' is a lost cause, but other readers of the forum can see through his nonsense.

  haha. Yes, quote the bit that Watch Tower quotes (you plagiarised the whole paragraph from Awake!, June 2012, page 14), but leave out what Stern follows with:

  I do not mean to imply that the country was uninhabited during the period between the Babylonian destruction and the Persian period. There were undoubtedly some settlements, but the population was very small. Many towns and villages were either completely or partly destroyed. The rest were barely functioning. International trade virtually ceased. Only two regions appear to have been spared this fate—the northern part of Judah (the region of Benjamin) and probably the land of Ammon, although the latter region awaits further investigation.
  

  You're so dishonest. Also, 604 to 538 exactly corresponds to Nebuchadnezzar's demand for tribute in early 604 until the Jews' return in 538.

  Question for 'scholar': if, as Watch Tower says, Daniel was brought to Babylon in 618 BCE and 3 years later was found by Nebuchadnezzar to be 10 times wiser than everyone else and given a position serving before the king, why was Daniel completely unknown to Nebuchadnezzar in 606 BCE when called to interpret a dream?

  (Answer: Watch Tower Society chronology is nuts. In the story*, Daniel is brought to Babylon in Nebuchadnezzar's first year and interprets the dream the following year during the training period, and then at the end of training all of the trainees are brought before Nebuchadnezzar for final assessment.)
  

  * Note: though the book of Daniel was written later and is not historical, the relative years of reign are provided in the story.

  Your timeline is faulty as its interpretation of the 70 years is misp[laced and further WT scholars have already produced a more accurate timeline. Scholars have different timelines for the Divided Monarchy and there is no consensus for this period of history within current scholarship so your comment that your timeline is in agreement with the best scholars is simply bunkum.

  We're talking about the Neo-Babylonian period, not the entire Divided Monarchy. Nice try at muddying the waters. But yes, even in the broader period, where there is disagreement among scholars, my timeline (with years for Judah and Israel based only on the Bible along with Decision Table analysis where needed) is within the bounds of the various years advanced by scholars unlike Watch Tower Society gibberish which is broadly recognised as fringe nonsense.

  You can talk in circles all you like, but your 'interpretation' (really just going along with Watch Tower) of Babylon's 70 years is plainly irrational.

  The historical evidence is that Judah remained desolate for exactly 70 years and began with the Fall with Nerbuchadnezzer ending with the Return under Cyrus nicely confirmed by the historian Josephus in several places.

  Nope. Wrong again. Not only are you obviously wrong about the duration of the exile (as distinct from Babylon's 70 years of power from 609 to 539), but parts of Judea remained populated through the exilic period (Ephraim Stern).

  Additionally, though Josephus erroneously gives 70 years in one location, he correctly gives 50 in others, and also indicates a 182.5 year period "from the captivity of the ten tribes to the first year of Cyrus" that is not compatible with Watch Tower Society chronology.

  I would rather base my Chronology on the Bible rather than theories and opinions of men.

  🤣 You doggedly agree with a bunch of old men in New York. I have already provided a timeline of the period based only on the Bible, which just happens to agree with the best scholars on the matter (including scholars recommended by pseudo-scholar on this very thread) .

  Gibberish: The 70 years was fulfilled at the ending of the 70 years marked by the return of the Jewish Exiles in 537 BCE The servitude began with the beginning of the Exile with the Jews being deported to Babylon for no other theory or viewpoint makes any sense. Babylon was already brought to account with the release of the Exiles after its Fall in 539 BCE and its eventual desolation as foretold by Jeremiah.

  Good to see correct use of punctuation this time to indicate that what follows is gibberish. Doesn't change the fact that Jeremiah 29:10-14 makes your conclusion impossible, since attention is given to their return only after 70 have ended, at which time you insist that they were already there. But you will continue to simply ignore that plain fact.

  hahahahaha. Don't try to pay lip service to scholarship, pseudo-scholar. Albertz provides exactly the same information for the Neo-Babylonian period as the timeline I've previously provided. The fact is, my own independent analysis is sound on its own merits and consistent with the scholarship you pretend to respect. You reject scholarship and cherry pick at single words that you imagine to be in support of your position though even the briefest analysis shows that to be a lie.

  Please look at the title of the book, Rainer does not refer to Exiles- plural but Exile- singular so one Exile which he describes as a 'catastrophe'.

  Hahahahaha. Yes, pay no attention to the actual content of the book that completely contradicts the Watch Tower Society's deluded chronology. Just look at one word from the title that pseudo-scholar likes. 🤣

  Further, he refers to deportations but only ONE major Exile

  Duh. The major exile occurred in early 597 BCE. Perhaps pseudo-scholar has forgotten that after that initial major exile, "No one was left behind except the poorest people of the land" (2 Kings 24:14).
