The largest financial transaction ever recorded here has just been made by John F. Rutherford, president of the Bluff City Lumber Company and recognized as one of the leading financiers of the State.

Jefferson County Archives:

[David Henry Duncan] came to Arkansas twenty years ago, and engaged in the lumber business, and for the past twelve years was identified with John F. Rutherford of the Bluff City Lumber Company. ... [Duncan] was a thirty-second degree Mason, belonging to the Consistory of New Orleans; also a member of Jerusalem Temple of the Mystic Shrine of New Orleans, and a member of the following orders: Knights of Pythias, Knights of Honor and Woodmen of the World.

Please do some research beyond 'someone has the same initials' in future.

Sorry kids, but although a J.F. Rutherford was in the Knights of Pythias, there's no indication it was Joseph Franklin Rutherford. A little digging shows that the Knights of Pythias had lots of connections with the Bluff City Lumber Company (Arkansas), of which a J.F. Rutherford was the president (in 1909, when Joseph was at the Watch Tower Society in Pittsburgh).

ever since i came out of the witnesses, i've become very political.. i've heard lots of arguments back and forth for many things.. in the u.s. there is the argument that it is "racist" to want to deny entry to muslims.

while there is freedom of religion, there is also the very valid concern of maintaining democracy and a justice system that is based on modern values.we as exjw's constantly quote the pew center for statistics on jw's such as: they are last place in the us for members of a religion that go to university, and second-last for poverty levels of members of a religion.

we accept those statistics and mention them as proof of how damaging the jw's are.now, let's use the same center for some very scary statistics on islam:http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2016/07/22/muslims-and-islam-key-findings-in-the-u-s-and-around-the-world/.

In any case, biblical creationists such as JWs are stuck with the problem that they implicitly require that an evolutionary process happened - orders of magnitude faster than what actually occurred in reality (several billion years, which they deny) - after the supposed 'flood' (supposedly around 4000 years ago), an event that was apparently only survived by a relatively limited number of undefined 'kinds' into the wealth of diversity today, while at the same time asserting that specific traits of individual species that couldn't possibly have all fit on the imaginary 'ark' 'must' have been specifically 'created' by their preferred deity. Cognitive dissonance at its best (or worst depending on the context).

Every time JW publications try this tactic of saying some particular species has some 'amazing' trait that 'must' have been 'designed', they demonstrate how dishonest they are.

If this particular species of ant had to be 'designed' to withstand high temperatures, it would mean this specific species - and by extension all species - would need to be 'preserved' on the fairy-tale 'ark' rather than there only needing to be a few 'kinds' (a vacuous term with no taxonomic meaning).

In addition, they implicitly assert that their 'loving' god deliberately 'designed' all manner of 'cruel' things in the natural world, such as parasites, viruses, etc.

Back in reality, it is observable that species gradually adapt and become more diverse over time based on their suitability for their environment without requiring a 'designer'.

I believe Angus was questioning Ron de Rooy about another case not related to BCG that happened in the Mareeba congregation.
watch the video again my understanding is that Angus is not talking about BCG's father. Ron de Rooy says he vaguely remembers dealing with this person.

Sorry, yes I realised after I posted that you were talking about a different case that was mentioned as an aside. I was only going from memory of watching the videos months ago when I initially replied.

no doubt we have all heard that well used "illustration" in public talks etc over the years:.

"if you were handed a glass of water that looked pure, but were told it has just a tiny drop of poison in it, would you drink it?".

the society has used that illustration at length to say we should avoid all influences of every part of the world.. but, as we know, the society has had a track record of errors, false ideas and doctrines.

This is the elder from Mareeba congregation. I would have a guess that Angus is questioning the elder about this case.
Very damming if it is the same case as in the lead up to this questioning, Angus is asking the elder how do you protect the congregation from an abuser if he is deemed repentant and no one knows he is an abuser.. check it out.

The Cairns Post article is not the same as the BCG case. In the case involving BCG, her father was found guilty and imprisoned. Though it was also brought out that the father also abused BCG's sisters, the ages reported in the Cairns Post article do not seem to match their circumstances either. It could be the other case mentioned in the linked video, but it's not entirely clear.

It is quite disturbing to learn of yet another case in that small town.

JWs are correct about 607 and 1914. Somewhat. The theory behind it is that Jehovah told David that his offspring would sit on Jehovah's throne forever culminating in Jesus. But when Jesus was on earth he didn't become king. Infact at that time, David's offspring were no longer in power on Jehovah's throne. Did Jehovah's statement fail?
No, it was paused. The kings in the line of David lost power when they became subject to another government. That happened in 607. In 587 Jerusalem was destroyed. 11 years prior, in 598, Zedekiah became king. 11 years and months prior to that in 610, Jehoiakim became king. Daniel said that 3 years after that, 607, captives were taken. Thus 607 is when the kings in the line of David lost sovereignty for 2520 years until 1914 when Jesus became king.

Nope. Only one person is ever described as being on 'Jehovah's throne' in the 'Old Testament'. Solomon. No one else. Jeremiah 3:14-17 indicates that even during the reign of 'good' king Josiah, rule from Jerusalem was not considered to represent “Jehovah’s throne”, which was only seen as a future event.

Additionally, not only is the starting year Rattigan has provided for Jehoiakim's reign completely wrong, but his reckoning of Daniel's reference to 'third year' is also wrong, because it fails to take into account the fact that Daniel uses accession-year dating. The reference to Jehoiakim's 'third year' in Daniel in fact refers to Jehoiakim's paying tribute to Nebuchadnezzar in early 604 BCE, which can be verified by comparison with BM 21946. After 3 full years (604, 603 and 602, all starting from Nisan) of paying tribute, he refused, in early 600 BCE (before Nisan, meaning 601 was not a full year of paying tribute), which can also be verified from 2 Kings 24:1 and BM 21946.

Actually, the area that 'has not been rebuilt' (which has actually been partially rebuilt) only refers to a small area of ruins a few hundred metres across that is preserved as a heritage site. Anyone who thinks that small area was the entire city of Babylon is either unaware of the facts, or extremely dishonest (and apparently they think that the Babylonians as well as all the exiled Jews as well as exiles from other nations - supposedly including the entire population of Egypt for a time - were confined to that small area??!!). The ruins are just outside the city of Hillah, which has a population of a few hundred thousand, and is the administrative city of Babylon Province, which has over 1 million people.
