Assigning any modern country to these ‘kings’ is delusional, but the Watch Tower Society’s view is even more detached from reality. Their ‘reasoning’ is that the ‘king of the north’ must be ‘affecting god’s people’, and since there are essentially zero JWs in China anyway, it doesn’t make a good candidate. Russia’s ban of JWs - actually intended as a strong message that American sects won’t be tolerated - feeds right in to the JW persecution complex, hence their knee-jerk identification of that country as the new ‘king’. Even though only a quite small proportion of JWs (less than 1.5% of JWs worldwide and about 0.08% of Russia’s population) are in that country anyway.

The King of the North and the South, who are they now?
by Anony Mous ini know several wit-lesses that to date are researching these topics.. however i haven't heard much from any publications recently about it, i think the latest refresh was ~10 years ago.
since then the power of the us has severely diminished (or at least the rhetorics about it has), russia is a small potato in modern era, the eu is a cowardly dog in the eyes of everyone and we have the rise of china which is as far as military might is concerned, a paper tiger.. we also have the rise of islam, especially since the end of the nato nation-building effort in afghanistan which is now in power in most of the middle east and africa, as well as regions of asia and growing strong in europe.. does anyone have noooo light about these developments.
is islam the king of the south?

Increase = Jehovah’s Blessing?
by Reservations ini’ve been trying to find any recent quotes that say the increase in witnesses every year is evidence of jehovah’s blessing on the organisation.. i know the ready made excuse if there is a decrease is “love of greater number will cool off”….
after splanes talk i can feel a significant decrease coming..

Because of the way JWs count membership, even if they only have the same rate of growth that they reported for 2019, this will be reported as about 3.5% growth over last year’s figures. This is owing to the decrease reported for last year prior to formalising their adapted reporting rules in September 2020, allowing them to count 15 minutes writing a letter that will end up in the bin. So don’t be too surprised if there is an ‘increase’.

The ‘king of the north’ was ‘identified’ as Russia at the Watch Tower Society’s 2017 annual meeting, and subsequent Watchtower articles, most notably the May 2020 issue. The supposed role of the ‘king of the north’ in their end times nonsense is also covered in their Pure Worship book (2018), though it does not name Russia.

They were only ever Seleucid and Ptolemaic kings up until Antiochus Epiphanes IV. The alternative views about them are Adventist nonsense. The JW view originated from the Adventist view (having Adventist origins themselves), and their recent rejection of Zenobia as one of the ‘kings’ has brought them back in line even more with the 7th day Adventist interpretation. -

The main problem isn’t that there is a majority of right wing views expressed. The main problem is the lies and misrepresentations that get leveled against anyone who points out any flaws with those views.

Being anointed means one is anointed by the holy spirit.
There’s no reason to believe that any part of that statement, even setting aside the pointless circular reference, has any basis in reality.

I want to partake of the emblems at the Memorial next year. Should I partake of it?
It’s a superstitious ritual, and you don’t seem to meet the standards of what JWs would generally consider to be one of the ‘anointed’. It won’t give you any authority or respect in the congregation or the broader organisation, and congregation members may call into question your mental state. But do whatever makes you feel happy I guess.

How is it that after all this time as a baptized JW, you do not know the answer to this most basic question?
He may well be a fraud, or this could be what the ‘wonderful growth’ of JWs is like in parts of Africa. Lower standards to grow the membership?

You know you’re on shaky ground when even the organisation promoting the belief in being ‘anointed’ says such a claim may be a result of emotional problems or mental imbalance.

Since there is no rational basis for anyone claiming they are anointed, you just indicate that you profess to be anointed by eating the bread and drinking the wine at the memorial, but you should already know that if you are a JW in good standing. If you are a new member, you will probably get a stern word from the elders afterwards. Even if you are in good standing, people in your congregation probably won’t believe you are anointed, since they are told that claiming to be anointed could be a result of emotional problems or mental imbalance, and only the ‘governing body’ and other high-ranking corporate members are ever definitively recognised as ‘anointed’. Claiming to be anointed will not give you any authority in the organisation.
