  it has occurred to me that jehovah's witness are particularly hypocritical when it comes to 'labelling'.. they are very quick to say that jehovah's witnesses are not a sect/cult/ascetics/pacifists/creationists/fundamentalists, but they have a whole host of labels for peopel who don't agree with them: marked/reproved/inactive/disfellowshipped/disassociated/apostate.. anyone else think it is hypocritical?

  adherents of jw dogma are boastful of a new website (http://www.jehovahsjudgment.co.uk/607) which they claim has "irrefutable" proof for their 607 doctrine.

  it is full of problems, and i will indicate these section by section, as time permits.. why is 607bce an important date to jehovah's witnesses.

  the introduction paints jws as the persecuted underdog.

  2005 Statistics

  after having a look at the newly posted 2005 jw statistics and comparing them to those of 2004, there are some interesting trends.. 23841 fewer bible studies.. 377274 fewer at the memorial.. 14785 fewer baptized.. 4032902 fewer hours in the ministry.. also, i have estimated, based on the change in the peak publishers from 2004 to 2005 compared to the number baptized, that around 146934 were disfellowshipped, disassociated or became inactive.. sudan has started reporting as of 2005. palau is now reporting under its english name; previously it was listed under its native name belau.. most areas showing growth are poor countries and countries with only relatively recent witness presence.

  The Watchtower's view of Christmas

  there is an article featured on the watchtower official site about how christmas has lost christ.

  what exactly is their problem with this?

  they have been trying to tell people for years that jesus wasn't born at christmas time, and then they get upset when other people behave the same way.

  Hophra and the Watchtower Society

  one of the pharoahs that is mentioned in the bible is hophra (aka apries, aka ha'a'ibra wahibra).. jeremiah 44:30 says: "this is what jehovah has said: here i am giving phar aoh hoph ra, the king of egypt, into the hand of his enemies and into the hand of those seeking for his soul, just as i have given zedeki ah the king of judah into the hand of nebuchadrez zar the king of babylon, his enemy and the one seeking for his soul.").

  the closest the watchtower society gets to attempting to assign any years to hophra is in a questions from readers article in the 1 october 1970, watchtower (incidentally on page 607 of the bound volume).

  it states: "egypt made one last attempt to remain a power in asia.

  Sodom and the Benjamites

  has anyone ever noticed the similarity between genesis 19:1-9 and judges 19:14-25?.

  it seems that the sodom story was created to provide a reason why the people of sodom were killed by some kind of volcanic event that they couldn't understand, being a primitive society that thought such events must be divine execution.. it also seems that the story in judges was based on the sodom story, and was politically motivated to incite and/or justify hatred toward the tribe of benjamin.. any thoughts?

  Society record keeping

  one month after writing a letter to the society directing that they destroy, or return to me, all records pertaining to me and today i received a phone call from one of the 'elders'.

  (i sent this letter a few days after the elders announced that i was "no longer one of jehovah's witnesses" [though on the phone they had told me it would be announced that i had disassociated].

  for the record i had explicitly directed 6 months ago that no such announcement be made because i have no status with the organization).. .
