  My copy of Organized to Do Jehovah's Will still has the publisher listed as the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc. Why aren't they using the same reference in their articles, I wonder?

  BTW, I'm not and never have been a JW. I just collect their literature.

  "Theocratic Warfare" - An Apostate Strategy?

  who here had ever heard of this so-called 'doctrine' of "theocratic warfare" when you were a jehovah's witness?

  who has not heard of the so-called doctrine now that you are an apostate?

  so why have witnesses never heard of 'doctrine', yet apostates seem to promote it as the last word on witness standards of honesty, integrity and decency?

  On three separate occasions within the past ten years I have had Witnesses tell me that they would do research on a point I brought up and come back to discuss it. They never did. Does that count?

  One occurrence -- they might have forgotten. We all get busy and forget things. But three times?

  Men and their BBQs

  this is so true ladies.... as i am sure you know from first-hand experience!.

  when a man volunteers to do the bbq the following chain of events are put into motion:.

  routine:the woman buys the food; andthe woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables, makes dessert; andthe woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill - beer in hand.here comes the important part: the man places the meat on the grill.the woman goes inside to organise the plates and cutlery; andthe woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is burning.

  I resent the implicit sexism in the original post!

  Here in the Homeland of Barbecue (North Carolina, USA), I am my household's Mistress of Barbecue.

  A nice Boston pork butt, smoked for 8 hours with hickory until it falls off the bone ... Served with the vinegar-pepper nectar that is East Carolina barbecue sauce ... Heaven! I'm not parochial, though -- I will tolerate tomato-based bbq sauces.

  Chicken, steak, hamburger ... Mesquite, hickory ... Yum!

  My husband is the one who prepares the side dishes. He hates having to deal with the grill.

  could someone please verify the following are the books jws were encouraged to use for new "bible studies"?

  i understand that there might have been some deviation (for example if a study couldn't read), but by and large, these were the first books.

  i may be missing one?

  From 1943 the book The Truth Shall Make You Free was used in new studies. Barbara Grizzuti Harrison mentions it in Visions of Glory: A History and a Memory of Jehovah's Witnesses.

  Do Individual JWs Pay For The Publications They Distribute?

  excuse my ignorance, and i've read on boards about the us not selling/inviting contributions issue, but do individuals jws in effect pay for the publications they give out?

  if so, is that only for their magazines or for hardback books as well?

  how is this organised, please?.

  I find the "donation arrangement" annoying, because I remember the good old days when the WT put out a catalog of their publications with the prices clearly marked. One could then choose the books or tracts one wanted, write a check, and get a box of books in return. The only bother about that was that a visit from a JW followed shortly thereafter. They wanted to see how you liked the books.

  What's funny is the number of (presumably) new JWs who get miffed at the sale of older publications. I have to point out to them that many of the older books, etc., were *sold* door to door. Gary's pic of the magazine bag is nice; a good scan of an old catalog works wonders, too. I'll have to dig through my stuff and find one.

  it's only march 1st and already several things have happened in witless land.... 1) awake!

  goes monthly beginning january 1, 2006.. 2) to be confirmed: bound volumes cease production.

  3) confirmed by congregation letter: paperback bibles replace hardback bibles.

  I just found out that the 2006 convention theme is "Deliverance at Hand." I've already seen some preliminary twittering from current JWs online about how close the Great Tribulation must be, if the FDS is serving up this type of food. Any news on what's up? Makes me wonder what the convention release(s) will be.

  at 4440 braeburn road, san diego, ca., in the rich and prestigious neighborhood of the kensington heights neighborhood sits one of the biggest embarrassments in the long and continuing list of embarrassments the watchtower society has created for itself.. most dubs know nothing about it, and if it wasnt for a few brief comments about it in the proclaimers book in 1993, even fewer dubs would know anything at all about it.. it is the home once known as beth-sarim (pronounced beth-sareeeem), the house of the princes.. it is a house with a history the society has shown by its historical lack of candor, hopes everyone would forget.

  in fact, the society has done just about everything it could do to ensure that its history will be forgotten.

  in the first book devoted to discussing the history of jehovahs witnesses, this house and its history is not even mentioned.

  Hi,

  I knew a Catholic priest who used to work at a parish on Staten Island, who shared my interest in JW history. He tracked down the cemetery JFR is supposedly buried in. It now belongs to a Methodist church. He knew the pastor, but if I remember rightly she didn't have full records for all the plots. Apparently the WTS owns (owned?) part of that land and used it as a burial ground for Bethelites. It may be that the records of who's buried there from Bethel are *at* Bethel.

  As a side note, the good Father drove me over to the former site of WBBR. Houses are now being built there, and there's no trace left of the station.
