  Golden Age Books and the September 2007 KM Question Box

  Our September KM Question Box caused much discussion on how it applied. We have decided to drop the Research Notes in case their purpose might be misunderstood. Also we would like to take the opportunity to remind everyone that we too do not 'endorse' the books we sell. We have never sought or expected the Society's endorsement for any of the books we have published. We try to find the books we feel will be useful for our deeper research, and maintain a fairly rigorous minimum standard in stocking new books, and only offer secondhand ones I have read, used, or know about. Every book published by worldly writers is going to have something in it which does not have that 'ring of truth' for those of us with a good knowledge of the truth. When a book is quoted by the Society, that does not mean they endorse it. Even Vine's, so often used, has words like 'hell' which show religious bias, so we just have to ignore those parts. I have often been asked whether I thought it was a good idea to take classes to learn Hebrew or Greek, and I have always said 'no,' for we would never become expert enought to be an authority on those languages without using up much time, and when we have such an easy numbering system as Strong's, we can get 90% of what we want anyway. Yet all matters like this must be an individual decision we personally must choose to make. But the Society are concerned at the number of those using this means to criticize the New World Translation, or holding meetings to discuss seeming 'problems.' We do have to be very careful not to intrude on the prerogative of the Faithful and Discreet Slave to dispense spiritual food through its publications, but always be loyal, and just follow and recommend that, especially by our first always reading everything the Society provide. It is sad that some brothers don't even study their Watchtower properly for the meetings, as those of us on microphone duty often observe.

  Wonder if they're feeling the heat? If so, how long will they be able to stay in business?

  Anyone with type 2 Diabetes?

  i have been to two doctors appointments in the last 7 months and it is confirmed that i have type 2 diabetes.

  i was so scared when i found out, i have had many of my family die early from that illness.

  since leaving the jw's , i can say that now i finally don't have the death wish that i secretly carried with me for so many years.

  Hi,

  My father was diagnosed with Type II diabetes when he was in his 40s. He lived to be 75. He died on August 28 from a brain tumor, not the diabetes. The diabetes was actually well-regulated until the near the end.

  I stand a good chance of developing it myself: my family history, plus the fact that I developed gestational diabetes with each of my three pregnancies, increase my odds. I try to watch my sugar and carb intake, and am currently attempting to drop some weight. All those factors will help hold it at bay. I still get tested for it every year or so.

  It's not the end of the world. You can live a pretty long life with it, as long as something else doesn't get you first!

  when i was in the 6 grade, i went to school with a girl who was a catholic.

  one day she brought to school her rosery beads.

  being raised as a jw i had never before seen this thing.

  A more charitable thought on the rosaries hanging from car mirrors: some folks do that to have them handy for when they're stuck in traffic -- a visible reminder. I've done it myself. I wouldn't count on them to protect me in an accident (or from accidents). That's not their purpose.

  I remember being told that they were not jewelry, but was never told that anything bad would happen if they were worn. That's a bit superstitious.

  It seems to be common among Hispanic Catholics in this area (NC) to wear them around the neck, but I've just noticed this recently, so I don't think it was an old practice.

  Even though I don't think anything terrible will happen to someone who wears them, I still don't like seeing them worn as jewelry. Just a gut reaction. I can see how it would be tempting -- some are quite beautifully made. My mother has a rosary from her wedding day that is just lovely.

  Vindication 3 1932 quote about reading Rutherfords books better than Bible

  1932 "if you spend 15 minutes reading each of rutherford's books you would get more pleasure than you would reading the bible for a whole year" {vin3 383} .

  this is twice now ive seen this quote posted on topix.net and when i asked for confirmation of it the first time over there i didnt get any.

  when i searched online i managed to find the vindication 3 book but it didnt go upto page 383. can someone verify that the above quote is accurate or check this book if they have it?

  Where were you when the planes hit?

  it f*cks me off that this happened only a few years ago but no one in my office has yet to even mention it.

  it was such a pivotal event:.

  i was driving from fontana to chino in california dressed in service clothes.

  I was born and raised in Queens, NY, and lived there until I got married, so it was personal.

  I was home in Raleigh, NC with two of my three kids. The boys were watching "Dragontales" or something like it on PBS. I turned on the radio to listen to a program, when I heard a news report about the President being informed of something and looking grim. I thought, "That can't be good," ran downstairs, and switched the station to news. At that point the towers were in flames.

  I got online and emailed a few people, then one of them wrote back, saying how he'd seen the smoke as he drove across one of the bridges on his way to work. He then said, "I can't believe they're gone." WTF??? What did he mean, "gone"?

  Ran back downstairs, turned the channel again, and saw the replays of the towers falling. Fell to my knees and wept ... I know so many people who work in lower Manhattan, my brother included. I started making phone calls ...

  While I didn't lose anyone close to me, my brother knew a bunch of cops and firefighters who didn't make it. One of my cousin's friends used to work at Windows on the World, the restaurant at the top of one of the towers. She was gone. My aunt's brother-in-law lost his brother, a firefighter. There were funerals in Brooklyn and Queens for weeks afterward, since that's where most of the police and firefighters lived.

  My dad was a retired Port Authority police sergeant. He lost some people in that attack, too. He and Mom were on a cruise when it happened ... Creepy, because they were on a cruise when the towers were bombed in 1993 (?). We began to joke that we weren't going to let them on a ship again!

  We also had ties to the Pentagon crash ... When we lived in Virginia, my husband used to work as a civilian for the Dept. of Defense, and the area where the plane hit was the section he used to go to for meetings all the time. He knew one or two of the people who died in that attack.

  I finished it yesterday -- I laughed, I cried (a LOT), I gasped ... It was amazing to see everything come together at the end. Many of my theories were shattered, but I was not at all disappointed.

  I'll be reading it again, more slowly this time, in addition to reading it aloud to my two younger kids.

  I hope Jo decides to fill in a few more details via her website on the later careers of some of the background characters, in addition to more info on the main ones. But it was enormously satisfying all around.
