I can isolate myself without becoming demonized.

Singing out. . .
by John Doe inwere there any folks in your congregation that had really big voices, no pitch, and a tone-deaf ear?
we had a whole family of them.
i recall one night the wife was particularly off key--even going on past when the music stopped, getting off on the wrong line, etc.

When I lived in Kentucky, we really sang out. Most of the cong did and some were very good. The ones that weren't were drowned out by how loud everyone sang.
When I moved back here, people barely sing at all. At the first meeting I was way loud and had to learn to back off the volume. I don't sing all that well, but I usually can hit the proper notes. -

They're told that reading so called "apostate" material can turn you away from "the truth". That some that have allowed themselves to read it have left the org. But they never ask themselves WHY these people decided to leave after reading it. Many can't comprehend the idea that they may be wrong (which is just how the GB likes it).
As a child I just assumed that what my parents told me was always right. I didn't doubt it, just assumed. But as I got older I realized that to be an adult I had to weigh each new thing I learned and decide for myself. Most JW's never get past that childhood thinking listening to the GB, the ones that do, leave. -

Spent last night at a friends house watching her kids while she stayed with her husband at hospital. Slept in a recliner for about 5 hours.
Had my laptop with me and I posted to EF's "The One" thread last night but can't find the thread at all today. Doesn't even show in my Post History. Maybe it was a dream...
I'm tired now. Planning a nap in a little bit. -

Most Hated "True Stories"
by Ingenuous ini was inspired by the "most hated analogies" thread.. a brother giving the public talk one sunday told the most ridiculous story.
i couldn't even swallow it when i was "in.".
i'll try not to laugh while i'm typing this.. once upon a time, in a land far, far away... someone planted a bomb in a kingdom hall.

I heard what's most likely the same story but some facts changed:
The speaker went through the roof and outside, but survived. The only person killed was a brother sitting in the front row.
Then it's followed by comments about how this just proves that Jehovah can exterminate who he wants no matter who is around them, just like he'll do at Armageddon.
I have no idea if it's a true story, but I feel bad if some guy got killed and then people are chatting about how it must have been God that killed him and he must have had some hidden sin. Just goes to show what a sick bunch they are (and alot of us were). -

"If the elders ask you anything, don't get your self disfellowshipped. Lie if you have to." (cuz God loves a cheerful liar?)
"You wouldn't go to a church would you? Because you couldn't handle it." (I'm so immature)
"Is she worth giving up your life for?" (because my family thinks I feel guilty for dating a "worldly" girl and that guilt keeps me from the meetings) -

Ever feel embarrassed when buying condoms?

---"Why should I be embarrassed? I'm letting the whole world know that I'M GETTIN' SOME!!!!"---
LOL :)
It never bothered me to buy condoms. I would pick up pads for my wife too and now for my daughter. Can't imagine that the clerk would think anything more than the real reason I buy the stuff. -

If New Light (TM) is so important...
by Elsewhere in.
why doesn't the wts point out the new light (tm) when it is published and do a compare and contrast study so jws are fully aware of the change and the ramifications of the change?.
to this day there are many jws who are unaware of the generation change in 1995.

I was always irritated by people that would get a new book or get the Watchtowers early, sent to them from someone at Bethel. They'd walk around making sure everyone knew that they had information nobody else had yet. Saying things like "Don't miss the (whatever date) WT when YOU get it! It's got some new information. I've been studying it and wow, it's great!"

---I hope it was a "PINTO"---
Hehe, nope, a 4-door Dodge Spirit.
I always felt guilty for not giving much, as some others have said. I never put money in the contribution box for literature, and I never asked for money at the doors. I'd volunteer to do alot of things but mostly I only gave cash at the conventions and assemblies. If I forgot, I felt bad.
When I started counting the money at DC's, I didn't feel as bad seeing how much they were getting.
