one of he paragraphs in yesterdays watchtower lesson spoke of brothers presumptuously reaching out for positions or privileges within the congregation to which they are not entitled.
the indication was that doing this shows arrogance and lack of humility.
no one commented on this wt statement when the paragraph was covered and my guess is because it made no sense.
Ok. Can someone show me where the bible specifically has TWO offices? Timothy in the original Greek starts off using the term "supervisor" then goes on to speak of what is required as a "servant" or "serving" to the other brothers. In my opinion it speaks of one and the same - supervisor = servant/serving. Not TWO "classes" or "ranks". Perhaps I am wrong. Here is the original text in Greek:

Great post. Very simple really. Just use the bible, no hokus pokus. A simple way of looking at this is to just turn to Zechariah 7 :
1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chisleu;
2 When they had sent unto the house of God Sherezer and Regemmelech, and their men, to pray before the LORD,
3 And to speak unto the priests which were in the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?
4 Then came the word of the LORD of hosts unto me, saying,
5 Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me?
4th year of Darius rule was in 517 (ascention year was 521). So in this month it was seventy years of fulfillment. So, 517 + 70 = 587. Hope that helps.

OK. I'm trying to look at it from the bibles perspective vs what the WTBS promote. Afterall there is biblical truth and then there is the WTBS truth - not the same. As Terry mentioned its all from perspective. I wonder since Jesus was gods son (still working on this one as I think it really goes much deeper) would he have been perfect, incapable of sinning at all or perhaps he was just a human that had gods spirit - something that adam and eve lost thus eventual death. Really does anyone have a clear synopsis of the ransom and what it really meant? I have a suspicion that it is not what the Society teaches - looking for what the bible says. Thanks again.

He is wrong. Though not all parts of the animal are ok to eat. Kosher meat involves multiple washings, etc. to get as much blood out as possible. This is from a Kosher processor:

a few years ago i know that the wtbts charged 1% above base rate when a local congregation needed funds from the kingdom hall build fund which all had donated to.. does anyone know if this is still the case?.

Lately the WTS has "encouraged" or should I say require the local cong to get there own loan. Usually a few elders form a committe and take a bank note out in there names. They are responsible for the payment. Kind of a crappy setup as if the cong can't meet the payment the elders may get screwed. A local cong here recently signed for a loan for a new hall as the brothers at the new hall could not qualify for a loan. The stipulation was that the new hall, after a set period of time, was supposed to start repaying the original cong back. Well the new cong just recently told the loaning cong to go pound sand and that they were not going to repay them. Unfortunately the elders are the note holders at the original cong so they personally are responsible. Not a good situtation.

Has anyone ever wondered WHY the questions are asked even in the first place? Or why they make it such a BIG thing that draws attention to the PERSON (which is a big no, no)? Does anyone really think that the Etheopian eunich was asked these questions before he was baptised? Very odd and unbiblical.
ok, since all the evidence and people/scholars etc, all agree that jerusalem was destroyed in 587/586 bce and not 607 bce.
how do the jw's get the extra 20 years, i understand the 2520 years and going back from 1914. but alot of the proof goes by adding up the kings reigns, and it gets you to the 587/586 date, do jw's simply add on a few years for each king, or is their a mystery king that ruled for 20 years that only they know about.. hhhhhhmmmmmmm.

I just found an interesting article talking of 586/587 and it is straight from the horses mouth (so to speak) - the Bible. Look at Zechariah Chapter 7: 1-5. It speaks of the 4th year of Darius (Darius took power in 521 so the 4th year would be 517) and also speaks of the 70 years in the same verses. Soooo, 70 years plus 517 = 587!!!! This is from the source - plan on using this in the future.
