An innocent child killed because an Asian boy has mental issues or perhaps angry (or doesn't own enough designer clothing/items) -- this is horrific and sad. Why aren't students being encouraged to see the school psychologist (all students for a get acquainted w/mental health checkup) on campus. A litany of protective measures need to be taken in schools. Obviously there were no metal detectors at school's entrance.

Another High School Shooting ... Santa Clara California
by RubaDub inat least at the moment it looks like no one is dead, but 6 injured (9:00 am pacific time 14 nov 2019).. i don't know if the school allows students to carry weapons, but many will think it would be a good idea for the students to carry concealed weapons to provide personal protection.. we shall see.. rub a dub.

If the banks have armed guards I've not noticed but I'm sure they've someone on alert. Tellers do stand behind walled bullet proof glass. My husband has been in bank line with robber standing a man right behind him (before the closed off glass sections) and recently on grocery store errand with hold up at the small inside bank a few feet away from check out he was standing at - no protective glass for tellers which is not good.
Schools need serious security -- they don't have problems inside the gaming venues/casinos any more because of cameras everywhere and trained security guards walking around and watching overhead all gaming and everything else. I've family member who is in school administration - you can't believe the threats the principals receive.

Canadians and Europeans, what do you think of your national health care ?
by RubaDub inwe have been in a battle over health care for so long here in the us regarding public, private, gov't subsidized, obama care, medicare for all, and just about every permutation of the above.. we hear the horror stories here that people wait 20 years for a check-up (ok, bit of an exaggeration), but you get the point.
one side tells us that canadians flock across the border when they are sick and need to see a doctor.
the other side says that is simply not the case.. so tell us, if you live under one of the government systems would you replace it?

Very expensive going to the ER but not for those without insurance on Medicare/Medicaid or homeless. Many people without assets all qualify for Medicaid in this country and receive the same insurance as those on Medicare. Medicaid is socialism - if you do some research the US is right behind the EURO countries (some Nordic ones) in socialism - rates about the same and we've had previous posts about this. Other terms for used in US - regardless it's provided and tax payers already pay for this.

The last time I was at one of the valley's finest hospitals with a family member half of the emergency ward (and ER beds) were taken up with drug addicts/alcoholics that are homeless or without insurance. It was interesting to say the least. Couple of RNs told me they're regulars -- so they also get care and treatment in hospitals other than the gov't (county) hospital. I don't know if they choose to receive extensive care if they're transferred to the government (county) hospital or not. It's possible many are on Medicaid (no income/homeless, without assets) and receive medical no matter which hospital they enter because I also witnessed this at one of the new Catholic hospitals across town. -

Describe "basic" -- we do provide basic ++++ healthcare to those without insurance coverage at government (usually referred to as county) hospitals. These government hospitals are everywhere throughout the US. The one in my city has the latest equipment and some of the cities/country's top surgeons/doctors work out of it. All government hospitals are operated off of taxes -- all paid for by the tax payer. Other than the normal problems of government run facilities like corruption/ineptness it's still going strong. When it closes down a particular wing like the oncology dept. the leading oncologists in the valley pick up the slack and provide care to all the patients without insurance coverage regardless as to whether they have insurance or not.

Why do so many Canadians come to the US for medical care? Maybe the Canadian government finally has enough MRI machines, etc. We know Europeans that have been traveling to Texas (Anderson Clinic) for decades for treatment. I'm not saying the healthcare in this country is great -- it's almost scary to have great health insurance because doctors are anxious to schedule you for surgery when your situation might correct itself (like a torn meniscus/knee which takes a lot of time to heal), etc. The great surgeons have surgeries scheduled for many weeks/mos in advance.
Many doctors walked away from their profession -- or were doing so 10-15 yrs. ago due to the exorbitant malpractice insurance rates. They couldn't afford the malpractice insurance in many states and many young doctors are so in debt from medical school they can't make a living. Something is radically wrong but I don't care to have socialized medicine. Medicare is good up to a point but you better have a great supplemental or secondary policy.

There's horror stories out re/Mormans and even the movie of savagery in this country but they spent multi-millions trying to appear mainstream and not so wacko as previously. Many of their people seem happy and enjoy learning all sorts of crafts and sewing - cooking and caring for one another. They've had dances and socials for their young since the 50s! All cult WT wants is slavery and all of their adherents lives/assets. Mormans are huge on education and being role model citizens - leaders in communities.

The Evolution Of The Watchtower Cult
by pale.emperor insince waking up from the cult i've been curious about where the cult is going and how will it end up?
will it fizzle out or become a little fringe "religion" like plymouth bretheren or the shakers?.
we've already seen the cult evolve from:.

Recall WT filing a 'friend of the court' (re Swagart) in the 1990s - maybe around mid 90s. This was right before they implemented the 'donation' plan of literature.

Some might have a condition as JY referred to above but for the most part they are just plain lazy and don't care. I've noticed some ethnic people visiting from foreign lands smell horrendous and shopping at one of the country's most exclusive department stores. Even doctors who have them as clients mention how bad their hygiene is -- this can't be healthy.
