MISERYLOVESELDERS --- I'M ROLLING reading your post and love the way you write/express yourself. you are too funny what you say about yourself --- what candor.

yeah, it's strange how that ole saying about no good deed goes unpunished. unfortunately, i've found it to be so very true and it's sad because we love to help out and give to others and then we get hit in the head - DUH, again! had a sister in hall yrs. ago give me the very best advice (and one of the smartest gals i ever met) and she straight up told me --- don't give anyone anything EVER because they HATE YOU FOR IT, they hate you that you can afford it and will never respect you. i started laughing because i thought she was just chidding me --- NOT!!!! she tried to set me straight, and it FINALLY SUNK IN ONE FINE DAY.

Snoozy is there a book or an article online about "dry begging." great term.

you certainly have been a kind, generous, parent and it's very difficult to get tough w/the kiddies. there are good/bad psychologists out there, and i have a family member who almost lost her mind dealing with a daughter bumming off of her (it's very common) and finally got help thru a self-help, 12-step group, that deals w/family. if you want the group's name, holler --- i've mentioned several times in past and nobody probably wants to hear about again. i have to say i've seen first hand the help/progress these people have made and one even leads one of the programs in her city.

information today runs through the neighborhoods of the world like a raging river and even the watchtower has no power to stop it from reaching their members.

that river is what swept me away.. a river is a two way analogy for my experience.

the apostate in me would say that, although highly painful and far too long, i am happy where the river washed me up and, now that my wounds have healed enough, i am starting to rebuild my life, for the better.

sabastious --- good advice/appreciate and makes sense. too logical and i want the cult to go broke and see a happy ending. i'm working at giving up my fantasies.

Morbidzbaby - like the advice, "Baby, they're happy in their ignorance....just let them be happy" and i'm trying to keep my pie hole shut and let God handle it --- almost like people in 12 step programs learn, or at least try to do. i have to repeat to myself one of the lines off the co-dependent website about admitting i'm powerless over others, what they think, what they do, what they want, yada, yada, and it helps, i think. i've never tried to control/manipulate anyone and my family (the ones i share life with) would verify, but this crazy cult is scary! my husband tells me "if religion makes people a better person then it's good," and i want to choke him. i can't understand why our gov't allows corporations (religions) to fraud people and worse w/this cult.

Is there a new "full court press" to bring back "lost ones"?

i ask the question because all of a sudden i am getting bombarded by my mother and other family members to "take my wife's hand and run back to jehovah before it is too late"!!

i am getting e-mail with screen shots of the un website (http://www.un.org/en/peace) stating "peace and security", being told that this could likely be the last memorial celebrated and that the door to the ark will be closing soon.

has anyone else been seeing an up-tick in these "prodigal son" appeals from jw friends and family?

satinka --- thanks for links and didn't realize it was "the most widely read magazine in the world," holy moly. thought i'd read it was the 2nd and couldn't believe. talk about great free labor. i understand the number printed but most of these are piled up in witnesses homes so how is this a trustworthy number. can't imagine people shelling out money for this tripe in these difficult times.

thanks for sharing your journey and perspective and love the 'raging river' analogy.

wish we could drop flyers over parking lots of halls inundating those who remain stuck w/facts and reality having availed/trusted themselves to the w/tower's education but at least have HOPE the river rages on.

Many children are quite confident to get what they want from others and have been raised with an "entitlement" mentality. See it daily from a generation of parents who have had to work so very hard and naturally want everything better/easier for them. Work ethics have changed dramatically in this country --- and perhaps they were too rigid in the past and more time is needed for rest/play/socialization --- but the pendulum has swung to an extreme re/work ethics and responsible individuals. Not implying many have NOT been raised to be responsible and self sufficient and to get an education --- many are and have. An incredible amount of education in many arenas has to be in play and, unfortunately, INFO was limited for years (we didn't have courses in school how to be a good parent) and thankfully great resources are available today, in comparison.

Stupid watchtower and their position on education has hurt and will continue to devastate future generations.

it's a business/membership drive --- perhaps the funds are low w/the economy and they need bodies for dollars. of course the brainwashed members are spouting off the scare tactics to get their friends/loved ones back but the good ole boys at the top can't scream out for more moolah so it's thusly cloaked in fear tactics.

YES, what a great phrase, dry begging, (kinda like dry drunks who are often times much worse than alcoholics). they are manipulators who never/ever have to come out and ask and have you jumping thru hoops to accommodate them. they are really covert aggressives (VERY, VERY, SKILLED AND KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT WHAT/HOW THEY OPERATE) and know just how to manipulate good hearted, WEAK, people, especially family members. whenever i get a call from one of these parasites (two family members to be precise) --- i know it's showtime and their sweet, syrupy, voice is present along with trying to act pitiful or desperate to use their power. THEY CANNOT CHANGE, TRUST ME.
