i just found out from my jehovah's witness cousin that my old congregation is being shuttered due to lack of elders, less than 20 members attending, and that the congregation cannot meet their monthly expenses.. here is a congregation that was started in 1975 with less than 15 members.
it grew to 185 members in the 1990's.
the congregation grew so large that the elders decided to split the congregation in two.
YUP, HelloThere - money going to Africa alright -- that's hilarious.
They can sell whatever they want since they hold the deeds on the property or halls were coerced to sign over property to them. Once they own the property they can lease it back to the halls-- great business real estate.
If the sheeple lost ownership of hall in Menlo Park (and everywhere) the WT must have legal docs re/all properties must be conveyed back to them. This is normal or like the Catholic Church.

Hellothere -- yes, you summed it up 'a boring, depressing souless place' -- nothing has changed since the 90s/still a miserable place. People are jumping ship -- or some, anyway.
Looks like there's around 12 halls in the valley and that's not including Henderson which is only 20-30 minutes away and growing like crazy, also. Not sure they've sold off halls here yet -- doesn't seem like they have. I recall sell offs (other areas) past decade+ then the restructuring, dancing to the 'Happy' song and jw.org, etc., etc., being formed trying to attract the young folk -- looks like that's been a dismal failure. There was a site with WT real estate listings but haven't seen in long time (nor looked for it).

i find this to be the case, people in general are so not interested in religion that they really could care less about jws.

Can't imagine reality sinking in the ones I knew of. Did hear (another hall) the elderly/infirm (maybe just some) haven't returned to meetings which is understandable. Heard nothing about attendance issue but maybe they're use to it.
Be a great time to sell halls -- real estate still hot here compared to some places.

Hellothere -- is this really going on all over the US? I haven't heard but my friend who recently returned to meetings on a regular basis said her congregation is all older people.

i find this to be the case, people in general are so not interested in religion that they really could care less about jws.
I'd forgotten that scripture (thanks) but if asked is much different than what most of us have experienced. Some people are so aggressive and far from humble. I don't think anything religious should be promoted or blathered about on company time -- unless asked and time permits.
I've learned to ignore questions -- if someone asks 'do you have a church' I ignore - refuse to discuss in public. They get the hint real fast.

I like the old saying mentioned above by Journeyman, (I think),"don't discuss politics or religion in public." One should be at their place of employment to work and zip up their personal lives. I'm clueless what the advice is scripturally but recall verse let your conduct/behavior be evidence of your faith -- I'm sure there's scripture about making a witness at every possible opportunity. I think it's social etiquette/environ/home life, etc. It's amazing how some spew on about attending/religious affiliation or ask or assume you're Morman or Catholic -- the latter most accepted by society. Never worked at place where brands were discussed/promoted except one assertive older Morman in California - they seem to know what's best for very young girls. In this state they are quite clique-ish. Hopefully, w/the tremendous growth the demographics have changed.

I've not read all the posts nor watched the video -- not sure I could stand it but I hope the shunning video goes viral on social media -- xjws should make a point to post or talk about it every day. Employees at Fashion Show Mall/LV were well aware of it/brought it up in convos -- were so shocked at the info they'd hear working w/so many JWs and XJWs or ones trying to escape.

Longy - you'll love this -- there's a beautiful catholic church block (or 2/strolling distance) off the Las Vegas strip -- it's famous -- think it's called the Guardian Angel Cathedral (love going to weddings there - always beautiful inside) and many high rollers frequent the place for mass -- the church pulls in extra priests, etc., just to count the donations. Gotta love it!
Much better than robbing/squeezing poor adherents' monies.
