Hi Tom, I've just finished reading all 4 parts of your sharing, and I agree with BoozeRunner ... Wowww! Where did all your courage and strength come from with a family like that?
((((((((((HUGS))))))))))
if you don't want to read the small text, i've made an identical webpage.

Tallyman, I know I'm only new to this board, but ... I don't think you'll get anything but hugs.
I stayed out of the death penalty debate, but I must say that I agree entirely with Mommy, and your story only makes my views more concrete.
Thanks for sharing

basically, all religions have the same core tenets.
1. have love for others.. 2. don't value material things more than you value each other.. i have a theory for this.
i call it the natural guilt theory.
Good argumentations Joel and Larc. Most humans are communal, and we need these qualities in order to live together and protect our offspring. I think there is an element selfishness in altruism though - the better the community the better protection for ourselves and our children.
My husband says that it is all down to the genetic imperative, but he is allowed to have his own views.
Enjoy your studies Joel

i was thinking about this in several areas today.. 1) district conventions and house-to-house work.
if you were a witness for a long time, you probably remember a time when going to the conventions seemed perfectly "normal" to you: it was absolutely "the thing" to sit in a sports arena all day listening to bible talks and counsel from men in suits.. but at some point, did you ever start to feel like you were participating in a cultural relic, so to speak?.
as in, "here it is, the 1990's, and the society is still using fundamentally the same old format they've been using all century long.

Towards the end, if I even went out in service, I would pretend to knock on the doors, pretend to ring the bell
I didn't go quite that far, but I did knock very quietly, after walking very quietly to the door. I didn't lie about my time, just stretched it a bit - if it was 35min, it was an hour.
I'm just so glad that all my efforts over so many years didn't result in one single convert to that bunch of out-dated salespersons
wow!!
who needs a new bookbag?
perhaps a door hanger stating a scripture straight from the "good/evilbook" itself...the new world translation!
Hmm, lets see....think I'll take the hot pink bag with the matching pink bible cover [8>].
it's strange how life has a tendency to balance things out, to ultimately repay us for both our bad deeds and our good deeds.. how ironic it is that the wtbts's policy on shunning has now become a major force that actually unites searchers for justice throughout the world!
what a smack in the teeth to this unilateral org, they themselves through their appalling treatment of ex's, have finished up simply pushing so called apostates into each others arms!.
would sites such as this exist if the wtbts rescinded their belief in shunning?
How right you are Englishman
Like any dictatorship, or totalitarian regieme, the problems within are many, but below the surface. Once the victims of their tactics to keep them in break free, they are emotionally shaken, but have become strengthened as well by their efforts. Like refugees, ex's do find comfort in a group who understand what they have been through. And it also encourages people like Outnfree to go forth and expose.
Sorry, its late and I'm not expressing this very well - but I had to post in to agree with you.

Just another WTS refugee
i've highlighted section 12 - i think it has implications for any jw's who wish to leave the society on a matter of conscience or principle.. what do the rest of you think?.
nic'.
universal declaration of human rights.
I agree, although I doubt you'd get the WTS to. But it certainly seems that many of the tactics used by the JWs to maintain their numbers could be considered a violation of human right.
(Of course, that wouldn't apply here in Australia, our present government seems to pick and choose which UN declaration it intends to work with.)
I also found another of the articles interesting in relation to disfellowshipping or disassociating:
Article 5.Would you say that shunning ex JWs could be considered in this light? It can feel like it.No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
i made a big mistake when signing up at this supposed website for jehovah's witnesses.
after reading some things on this site it has become apparent to me that this site is nothing put another pathetic site for apostates: people who betrayed jehovah, left the truth, and are so bitter about their experiene in the truth, and they are angry just like satan because they know they will very soon be dead at jehovah's hand!.
this website should be renamed something more fitting like "satan's playground" or a similar name that would get across the message of your site.. sincerely,.
Well put Logical .
I agree with you Waiting - it must be part of that fascination with the "dark side".
One of the reasons I like this board is because there are a lot of the people here who acually think for themselves, and don't revert to rhetoric like they were taught to in their JW days. People like LaraK only help to remind me when I'm out here.
simon did away with the sex forum - so i must take the tradional route and post under "make new friends.
" how mundane!.
fyi ---- for all of us, please take the time to write a sentence or two about yourselves, and encourage new ones to do the same.
I just came back to this thread for the first time since I posted here, thanks for the welcome everyone, and for the enouraging words. And thank you all for your experiences. This is a great thread.
I loved the "male overlord" comment Carmel - it is so accurate, and the "twisted sisters" - lol, reminds me of so many MS wives .
No dins, I never thought I'd get a degree, I was such a good little witness that I didn't even finish high school. What did your Grandmother end up doing? I wish I'd woken up to that shunning rubbish alot earlier.
Is your girlfriend talking to you yet freddi?
troucul, I hope that you keep being this happy, and enjoy your secular study. If your experience is anything like mine, it will be a bit more eye opening than studying for the WT study.
I hope this thread keeps going
Cautious - who has been having a great time at this board (thanks Simon
as it was considered back in 1995 that due to not holding to the society's view of the literal generation of 1914,i had disasociated myself, now all jehovah,s witnesses dont believe this anymore, are they all appostate for rejecting this important truth, that i had apparently sinned so much in rejecting?????????
?
Good Question Cornish
But it seems to me that people are dfed from the WTS for not believing them, and it doesn't appear to matter what the doctrine is, you just have to agree with them. So, as the WTS change their minds, you must faithfully follow them in their new thoughts and agree to that too.
You are not allowed to have your own thoughts, thats all.
