Christian Science Monitor gives up printing paper - will the WT follow?
by slimboyfat infrom next year the christian science monitor will publish only via the internet.
other newspapers look set to follow.
the christian science monitor is a different sort of publication to the watchtower now i know, but given the history it's interesting to ponder if the watchtower magazine will be relegated to an online version only too at some stage.

they are already making it clear that their are costs incurred at their download site, so they will still convince the dubs to provide an income stream even without the printed version. They can then burn and place a cd version with the public. The ability to generate cash flow with printed material becomes more and more of a challenge. They will not have to print out the literature because what ever technology (i-pods) or whatever is\are required will be purchased by the rank and file when instructed to do so. In the past for example many did not purchase dvd players, either because members did not feel they could afford, or want that in their homes, but as soon as the society started producing dvd's they all got the dvd players.

Defence of watchtower society Links
by reniaa ini thought long and hard before making this thread, that many will not agree with it but i think there needs to be balance and people to realise there are alternate viewpoints out there on many of these subjects, the ones that are most spoke about on this forum.
i was recently sent a full message containing mary's book and these links give the rebuttal to many of her points.
those that are still open-minded enough feel free to look over them even if in the end you still don't agree at least you have heard both the defence as well as the attack as they are on the internet.

Boy oh boy. this thread has taken on a life of its own. Anyway I would just like to add a few thoughts of my own. I think it is disgusting how the catholic church (a good representative of Babylon the great) for years used Latin in its Liturgy and basically kept the bible for the clergy. I by far prefer the way the GB encourages the followers to use the bible extensively, but oh ya, they then say pretty much the same as the aforementioned catholic church - you can't understand it or get the drift of the major teaching contained in it unless you have us to explain it. In other words, read it, anylize it but only thru our Rose coloured? glasses.
Or what about that horrible babylonish teaching of hellfire. Isn't the gb teaching of millions losing their lives at the time of the flood, for living life as best they could, and billions yet to be slaughtered any day now, because they were either never reached by the preaching of the "good news of destruction" or not responding to the witness at the door that day when the washer was going the baby screaming when the dog had just done a dump on the floor much more palatable and reasonable.
Just my two bits worth.

I find it strange that the accusation of one sidedness is even mentioned. In most cases you are talking about someone who has "learned" the truth over many years, come to believe in the doctrines or beliefs, in most cases willing to fight off the opposition and thier claims that are contrary to wt teaching and understanding. Then something happens in their lives that causes them to say, whoa what's happening here. Usually over a period of time because they do not want to beleive they have been decieved, they become aware of the numerous problems that can not be explained away. And finally they realize that they have allowed themselves to be duped and mislead, not usually an easy thing to accept, what with our feeling foolish for not doing more due diligence before accepting hook line and sinker. So now they learn so much more about "the truth" then they ever did while in "the truth" and yet the charge is levelled that what they now point out about the errors of "the truth" is one-sided. Just doesn't make any sense at all.

Aug 15th WT - Pg7 par3 - it's right there in plain sight
by passwordprotected inparagraph 3 of this typically un-self-effacing article is incredible for 2 reasons, 2 reasons jws are unlikely to be awake to and will more than likely be blind to.. .
first of all the wts very grandly state that "jehovah and "the faithful and discreet slave" deeply appreciate all their past and present contributions to the kingdom work.".
firstly, the wts have put their organisation in the self-assigned role as the "faithful and discreet slave", which we'll come to in a second.

Yes indeed! the faithful and discreet slave appreciate. I noticed that right off when reviewing Blondie's coverage of that article, and my first thought was, no they did not print (just say) that. First off the majority of their faithful slave are or should be old enough that they can't remember their own names, let alone be appreciative of the older ones that the article refers to. The idea that their faithful slave (a group spread throughout the earth, not a centralized group making any kind of an organized comment) is appreciative of anything other than their own privileged association with God is ludicrous to the nth degree. They seem to be struggling (the writers of this drivel) whether they should say GB, faithful slave, organization, the society, blah, blah or what. And of course these statements are all biased by their beliefs.

WT backtracking fast on Book Study -High Gas Prices
by stillajwexelder inso tonight the congregation discussed the front page of the october km -the new meeting schedule.
straight away it was emphasized it was not because of high gas prices that the meetings were being reduced.
it was pointed out that in parts of the world the brothers do not have cars so it was not high gas prices.

latest rumored on this is that Jehovah through his holy spirit directed them to come up with the high gas price comment to shame the powers that be to bring the price down. Guess what, it seems to have worked.

just wondering
by booby inwhy, if all things were created through jesus, does the new world translation wait till genesis 1:26 for god to say let "us" make, and then revert back to ignoring the us in verses 27-31 to just god.
in verse 31 it says again just that god saw everything "he" made was good?.
31 after that god saw everything he had made and, look!

Why, if all things were created through Jesus, does the new world translation wait till genesis 1:26 for God to say let "US" make, and then revert back to ignoring the us in verses 27-31 to just God. In verse 31 it says again just that God saw everything "he" made was good?
